Wifi dumping works fine albiet slow (6-10 hours eta)
I formatted my 4gb memorex usb drive with FAT and FAT32 and both give an error when trying to mount
Any idea what would cause this?
SD dump works fine, but switching 9 times will be a tad annoying ^^

512 is enough, You can split the game in smaller parts.
But i still have NO FRIGGIN'idea what I have to do with those parts...
Do I have to burn them or do I have to make one big ISO file of it? (>>how?!?!)

^^^Geoffrey6, here's your solution for combining pieces. If you've chosen SD/USB and split it into multiple pieces you'll have to reconstruct them, you can use the program HJSplit (it's Freeware, don't worry). I've provided the link to the .zip/.tar.gz file of the program below.
Code:
Windows XP/Vista/2000/NT/95/98/ME http://www.treepad.net/download/hjsplit.zip
Linux Distros http://www.treepad.net/download/hjsplitlx.tar.gz
Now, before you use the program, make sure you do the following. Lets say that your image is in 4 pieces. They're all titled R70E.iso. What you need to do is number them in a format that HJSplit recognizes. The first piece would be numbered R70E.iso.001, the second R70E.iso.002, and so on and so forth. Once they're numbered put them all in a folder together. Then you're good to go ahead and use HJSplit. To do so, run hjsplit.exe, then click "Join". At that point it will let you choose the first file from the folder. Since they're all named appropriately, it automatically sticks them all together. Then you simply choose an output folder and click the "Start" button. It's very easy and obviously its faster if you're combining Gamecube images as opposed to Wii images.

When I tried to send the file from my desktop I got
>> Sending DVD ISO... ERROR! (ret = -10056)
Then almost the same thing from my laptop
>> Sending DVD ISO... ERROR! (ret = -10015)
I Googled and found a guy with the same problem and he tried Firefox and it worked, so I tried and it worked for me too. I just thought I'd add this to the thread in case anyone else encountered the same issue. This may be a band-aid type fix, so if anyone else has a way to get it working with IE please chime in!

I was able to get everything connected and dumping but after 1.8 gigs it froze up. I was using firefox. Received a message there was a timeout in the download. Didnt get a chance to retry but think my problem may have been I was downloading something else on the internet when it occurred.

Someone asked about the speed at which it transfers via the wifi before, and I wanted to ask the same question. Withough moving my laptop, my speed dropped from 500kbps to 250kpbs, and I dont know how to get it back up. Does anyone know why this has happened? It's a pain because it takes 5 hours to do one single disc :(

I am also having the same problem as kferrell and smif...I can only get through2-3 gb via wifi and then it just stops and appears to be frozen. Wii says its still sending the ISO but the percentage on the download progress bar just stays stuck. Please help! Ive been trying to research a solution for 1 week now and apparently everyone else is enjoying DVD Dump but me. Is it possible that it is timing out under some setting either in firefox or my router that I am not aware of? Thanks in advance!

i got my first dump to work last night via the wifi.
i am also using firefox AND i had my wife doing other things on the net (though she was on a different computer on the network).
i originally could not get internet explorer to work, so i went with firefox.
maybe the problem is with the way you are trying to save the file. i right clicked the link, and did a "save target as..." instead of left clicking to save.
my speeds were not the greatest 384k-560k, but it worked without a hitch.
not sure how helpful this will be, but i thought i would share my experience.

Thanks Jaynecobb...are you using Firefox 3? I have been reading that firefox has been having problems with some downloads, in particular with the type of error I just got when trying it again. It said:
"RMGE.iso.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."
This error was given in firefox browser and not DVD Dump. I also noticed that I was getting downloads of about 560kb/s for the first 2gb, then suddenly it dropped to 250kb/s and then 20 minutes later the error appeared and my computer lost the connection with my wii. Then the following error appeared on DVD dump:
Something to the effect of "Error: unable to parse client request. ret= -10040."
Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll try right clicking next time and see if that makes a difference.

I was also just wondering...what cIOS was everyone using to run this? I am running the most current one (I dont know how to tell which it is but when I installed backup loader v0.3 I had to install the cIOS which said something like version 7 which I am assuming is the most recent one. The file says IOS16-64-v257). Anyways, from what I understand you can run this with the most recent cIOS but you could also run it with an older version. I am just curious to see what people are running to get this working because its likely I have it set up wrong and dont know how to tell. Thanks again!

uh-oh.
looks like i spoke too soon.
i tried to dump 2 games last night and they both flopped.
house of dead 2/3 and smash brothers both got to about 2.5-3 gigs and stopped downloading.
here is a stupid Q that i have: when i am dumping these games wirelessly, am i using my wireless network bandwith, or am i downloading over the internet?
if over the internet, then maybe my isp is capping my usage. i have downloaded quite a bit more than i normally do recently...3 games and an episode or 2.
one more Q.
if i was to go the flashdrive route, i could theoretically use an 8gb drive and be perfectly fine dumping the entire game in one go right?
thanks to all for the future help. you guys/gals are awesome here @ afterdawn.

update:
i got house of the dead to work last night.
instead of using my laptop to download over the wireless, i used my hard wire desktop and everything went ok.
the only downside is that my speed was hella slower than when i ripped zelda.
i am looking into buying one of the LG drives off ebay. $35 isn't so bad, and the reps of the sellers are pretty good.
it kinda sucks to wait 4 hours for a single layer game at these speeds.

Hey Jaynecobb...I know it isnt using your internet bandwidth...so it isnt your ISP capping it. What LG drive are you going to get? Let me know if you get it up and working because I would probably look into doing that then. Good luck!

there is an auction ending in the next couple hours for it.
if i do go this route, i will definitely let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the info birdspar. I actually bought one off of megaloot4u.com for about $45 with shipping. I probably spent more than I needed to but I have had bad experience with buying stuff off ebay and not having it work. By the way, I got an LG GDR-8162. Hopefully there are no issues with it and that I can get it up and running without any problems. Ill keep you guys updated.

Well...I got my drive today and am currently in the process of backing up one of my games. It seems to be working and raw dump says it will take about 1hr and 50 minutes total which is great! Once I confirm the iso size and burn it to see if it is playable Ill post again but I must say thanks to megaloot4u for fast deliver...it got here in two days! By the way Jaynecobb, I read that other people have been using safari as the web browser instead for DVD dumper which seems to work. I tried it but it said that it would have taken almost 5 hours to back up a disc. But the speed was steady at around 360kb/sec. It may be something you will want to try out.

@dasherjw.
thanks for the suggestion. i actually set up an hard line to the wii using the datel usb/cat5 dongle.
it works great over my home powerline setup. it still takes 4-5 hours, but for right now that is acceptable.
i'm sure that i will tire of tying my wii up for several hours at a time, and will eventually break down and get a drive to dump them instead.
good luck with your project right now. hopefully it all works out.
