Thats great that works jaynecobb. I have now successfully backed up 3 of my games and all work great...even wifi! And each took 1hr and 50 minutes to backup!

@dasherjw...great to hear it. i will probably switch over like you.

now on to my next dilemma...

this is probably the noobiest Q yet.

i have wiigator and gammaloader both installed for playing backups.

i am trying to play house of the dead 2/3 return.

hod3 plays perfect, hod2 goes to a black screen and freezes the wii.

supposedly on one of the many backup compatibility lists hod2 will run with ios249.

i have seen people mentioning patching games with a certain ios to get them to run.

i have installed all the following wads:

cios37 rev3
ios37-64v2070
ios36-64v1042
IOS16-64-v257
cIOS249-IOS36-rev07

am i supposed to run a program to add these to the .ISO image, or does having these installed via custom wad manager do the trick?

i have tried reading this stuff and my head is starting to spin with all of the info that is present on this site.

thanks in advance to all that have the patience to help me out.

i am trying, just a little slow on the uptake....

nevermind on the above post.

i installed cioscorp and now hod2 and 3 work perfectly.

my only worry is that i have installed so many different things, and i really have no idea if i should have been doing it or not:)

hopefully my reckless abandon does not come back and chew my arse...me doing this stuff is like steve mcqueen driving drunk with a blind fold and no brakes.

Absolute newbie here so apologies if I'm going over old stuff. I have followed the original instructions but there are a few points that went way over my head!!

Before you do anything, you need to patch your Wii IOS firmware (I've tested it and it's safe as long as you do it as described).

-Obtain a copy of the original Wii IOS wad file (IOS37-64-v2070.wad)
Hint: Google for it.

done that

-Place the original IOS37-64-v2070.wad at the root of your sd card.

done that

-Download this {Mirror} file and unzip it to the /apps folder on the root of your sd card.

done that

-Run the Custom IOS Installer on your wii to install the hacked version (boot as any other homebrew. The zip file I prepared is setup for use with the homebrew channel)

I have no idea how to do this step. If anyone has the patience to bear with me, detailed intructions would be greatly appreciated

Now that your IOS is patched, you can dump games easily. Continue with the process:

Download Waninikoko's DVD Dump tool from here. {Mirror}

Unzip the DVDDumper folder and place it in /apps folder on the root of your sd card. You can also load it however you load other homebrew, but I specifically prepared the download to be ready for use with the homebrew channel.

I did this but as I haven't been able to run the custom IOS installer it is still sitting on the sd card waiting for someone who knows what to do with it.
Any help gratefully received

cheers

The custom IOS installer is here:

http://www.filedropper.com/customiosinstaller

Do you have the homebrew channel installed?
If not, you can't run this yet (or shouldn't anyway, to simplify things).

Go find the twilight hack method in the ultimate sticky on this board.

Is the installer not working? Did you boot it from the homebrew channel?

Let me know.

Hi guys,
apologies once more, I seem to have been trying to run before I can walk.
I haven't got homebrew installed on my wii yet ( so NOT a stupid question, sunnybub ) as I didn't have a copy of Zelda to use the twilight hack. I have read a lot more since my first post, but obviously not enough yet.
I have a wii with version 3.4 firmware, I now have zelda but I read that the twilight hack will only work once on version 3.4. (wiibrew twilight hack page) Does this mean I only get one shot at getting the homebrew channel to work?
If I get it working will it be permanently available afterwards as a wii channel?
If I only get one go at this I want to get it right first time so all advice gratefully received!
cheers,
Keith

It's available as a channel once you install it.

Idk what that 'only once' thing is about. You can uninstall and reinstall all you want on 3.4 unless Nintendo patches it or something.

kieth, for the twilight hack you can do it as many times as you want. The menu will find the hack and delete it on you if you dont use it right away. At that point just copy it over again. So just install the homebrew as a channel and you will not have to do it again.

Gabbie-read the stickys. You are getting that because you have menu 3.4 and they are trying to block you from installing cios. So you need to install the cios fix.

thanks for the suggestion. i actually set up an hard line to the wii using the datel usb/cat5 dongle.

it works great over my home powerline setup. it still takes 4-5 hours, but for right now that is acceptable.

i'm sure that i will tire of tying my wii up for several hours at a time, and will eventually break down and get a drive to dump them instead.

good luck with your project right now. hopefully it all works out.
So...you were able to use a hard wired connection to dump the game with? Can you tell us how you were able to make this work with hard wire connection?

thanks to all for your advice, I think I'm finally getting somewhere now. Just one more noob question, should there be a boot.dol or boot.elf file included in the twilight hack folder? I downloaded, unzipped and untarred the file to get the private folder, but the only file I can find in the european folder is a data.bin file. Do I need a seperate .dol or .elf file to install the homebrew channel? If so, where do I find it?

Thanks again,

Keith

I noticed this thread was started in September before the Octorber 23rd fix update. So i followed the october 23rd fix to get the homebrew channel on my wii 3.4u and now i cant seem to find a tutorial that helps me make backups of my original games without bricking or getting those stupid error messages when i try to launch a game with my wiigator channel. I tried this and when i downloaded the ios it gave me an error when loading my friends backup games on my wii. please help or guide me in the right dirrection. thanks!

Im new, so bear with me!

climo:

If you have the cat5 to usb adapter, plug everything in, go the Wii settings, to Internet, then I think Connection Settings (the top one I believe), and set up a wired connection.

Use the Wireless option in DVD Dumper as you normally would.

keithowen:

The Twilight Hack doesn't have a boot.dol. The hack itself is just a save, you need to copy it to the Wii memory. Copy the Private folder AS IT IS to the root of your SD card.

The Homebrew Channel is what you need the boot.dol for. Put that in the root of your SD card as well.

readingsm:

I've been doing this for a couple days now, but I've quite a bit of reading on it. I haven't heard of that happening in all the pages/forums I've looked through. It sounds like more of a hardware problem than anything. I can't imagine it having anything to do with the disks. Sorry I can't help more

nuke1105:

It's hard to tell what you have installed already, but as far as I know this is what you need to make backups:

Homebrew Channel
Custom IOS
DVD Dumper

What you should find is the non-channel version of the Backup Launcher, which should come with the cIOS Intstaller that you need for both the DVD Dumper and the Backup Launcher. A few of the channel versions come with a fix for a #002 error, which will come in handy for a few games. I'm guessing the one you have does, since you seem to have downloaded it recently.

At this point, I've installed so many IOS's and fixes (mostly to get WADs working again O_o) that I can't say with absolute certainty that those are all you need, but it should be.

I have one of those drives bought off e-bay and it works fine, EXCEPT...

I was able to dump a game in 3.5hrs but lately it takes 5.5hrs to do the same job. I have not altered any settings on the drive nor with my PC.

Help please?

You shouldn't need to install cIOS37 if you have cIOS36 installed. The DVD Dumper should work. I have cIOS36_rev9 installed and it works perfectly fine (no cIOS37 has been installed).

Hello all, I am new to the forums and I have a question regarding this guide. Bear with this long winded post because I was excited that I actually did something right and worked correctly but you will see how I boned it up.Let me give some background...

I am running Wii 4.0 so I decided to see if I could do some sort of softmod. I did some searching and what not and I came across this youtube video that work excellent for me and I was able to play a backup. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcTBLau2yTM) Now I went to try and make a backup of one of my games and was disappointed that I couldn't do it with my current DVD drive. So I searched for alternatives and found this. Followed the instructions and made a successful backup (file size correct and what not). When I ran it I got a DISC ERROR 349 and thought it may have been a bad dump. Then I put in the previous game that worked and get the same thing. I read a little further down and found that there was a problem with this IOS37-64-v2070.wad or the Custom IOS Installer version.

So I tried backing up my SD card and start from the beginning, if you did or didn't watch the video here are the text instructions

Quote:
BACKUP YOUR SD CARD BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE
DELETE EVERYTHING ON YOUR SD CARD OR THIS WILL NEVER WORK
ONLY THE FILES IN THIS PACK SHOULD BE ON THE SD CARD!!!

Put the contents on your SD Card as it is in the .rar just drag all to SD Card.

Go to Data Management then choose Channels followed by SD

Choose "Yes" to load boot.dol

LoadMii will then load.

Press "A" on the WiiMote.

Go down to DowngraderIOS35.dol and run it by pressing "A" on the WiiMote.
Choose downgrade IOS35 and then let it go, then choose exit (ignore the patchmii and dvdx)

You'll be back in LoadMii now.

Go down and run Wad Manager 1.4 by pressing "A" on WiiMote.

Just select normal settings (don't change IOS)

Install IOS35.wad.

Exit Wad Manager 1.4 by pressing "HOME"

You'll be back in LoadMii.

Run Wad Manager again, Select IOS35 when it asked what IOS to use.

Install the CIOSv7.wad.

Press "Home" to exit.

Then Run Wad Manager again.

Tell it to use IOS249.

Install IOS36.wad, BUL3g.wad & HBC.wad

You will now restart Wii to find that Backuplauncher and Homebrew Channel are installed and working.

Should be all hacked now and ready to grab the new versions of CIOS (v10 atm) from yafaze.com.
When I got to the step to install CIOSv7.wad I got and erro Ret = 1035.

Sorry again for the length of this post but I guess my question is, is there a way to get back to a state on my Wii before I tried any of this or can a n00b like me with the help of experts like you help me correct it, thanks!

Just a heads up. There is a newer software called SuperDump v1.2 Here is some info about it.

Note: I didn't make this software it's just a copy pasta from another thread.

Recently while working on RawkSD we've had to dump a few discs (RB1/GH3/GH:A/GH:WT/GH:M/GH:SH) and I thought I could make a much faster dumper than the available ones. So using the source code for CaitSith2's dumper (based on nitrotux's work) I went ahead and did it. The results are pretty impressive: around half an hour to dump a single layer disc and an hour to dump SSBB.

Features:
- Dumps to SD, USB2 or USB1 (fallback if USB2 is not detected)
- SDHC support under any IOS (although it tries to use IOS249 if available)
- Ability to choose chunk sizes (mainly to suit 1GB, 2GB and 4GB SD cards) and which chunk to start dumping from
- Checks for available free space before starting dump
- Detection of FAT partitions other than partition 0
- Shows time remaining (for current chunk only)
- Unlike the USBLoader, produces 1:1 disc images and works with FAT partitions

If you have a picky USB2 device (like kingston datatraveler DT100 keys), try starting superdump with no USB devices connected and only plug it in after the text appears. For me this avoids the "USB2 device not found, using USB1 instead..." message and I get full speed writing. Also the "Checking free space..." step can sometimes take a long time to complete for large FAT32 drives.
