with DivXtoDVD you can define the chapters you want from the treeview.
or I don't understand what you mean by chapter later...

Hi mofofox3
When using TMPGEnc 3_0 XPress to convert several short mpg or AVI check the Output clips separately, when authoring TMPGEnc DVD Author 1_6 I can make a menu for each clip added to the project( accidently found the lil boxes you put the pic in will move for a second or two) Depending on how large your clips are. Like to use Nero Recode as well to Burn the completion. going to give TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO a try TMPGEnc new program. Thinking the out come depends on the quality of the file you start with, I have had some real stinkers. I am not good at this stuff. I have to depend on the program and advice of the kind people at afterdawn. I am proud just to make a DVD you can view on a stand alone player. Have to leave the sophisticated stuff to gurus. You want fast and quality look at Canopus ProCode2 according to the information at their site. All depends on what you want to do. fast quality or both. sure hope some of this helps, it is just some of the things I do.

Grateful for any and all helpful information and guidance. Thank you arnold2

I've has a snout through the last few months postings and couldn't see anything similar to my audio issue ...

Using DivXtoDVD v1.99.14(.34) I occasionally get an audio track which plays 'rapidly', sounding 10 or so times faster whilst the video runs smoothly. Thus audio component is useless.

I've been trying to fault find / look for patterns to no avail .... but tonight found a beauty.

Have two 700mb'ish .AVI files, namely a 1st half and a 2nd half of a film. Both .AVI files play audio tracks play speldidly in and WinAmp, and with NeroShowTime2.

DivXtoDVD processed both fine and happily burnt to DVD.

Playing DVD the first title's audio is in fastplay, but the second title's audio plays perfectly.

DivXtoDVD reports both .AVI files having identical characteristics; namely

mpeg4 608x272 25 FPS
en-AC3 48000Hz 5:1 256 kb/s

Am using default settings throughout DivXtoDVD, except have seelcted FORCE-PAL. Any suggestions from you chaps on how to troubleshoot this one ?

Forgot to mention, GSpot reckons all is fine (and data on both .AVIs are identical). Audio plays ok in GSpot.

Scratching at straws, so I've just scored latest Avi2DVD from SOFTWARE page, and will try it ans see.

I already have BitLord, but I don't get what you're trying to say here. Are you saying that I can DL the full program there? (It'd be illegal, o' course, but I still have to ask.) Or are you saying that I can get different versions of my movie there?

DivXtoDVD only defines chapters by equal time intervals, right? If there's a way to separately create each chapter independent to the others, I'd like to know.

And by chaptering later, I mean that I want to convert it to MPEG first, then see if I can create the chapters while I'm authoring the dvd or something.

Ah. I just clicked on the links, and now I understand.

Naughty, naughty. :P

But alas, that still doesn't solve my issue of creating chapters. If there were a way to do it with .VOB files (so I could keep the video quality), I'd do it. But since there isn't (at least not to my knowledge), I'll have to stick to mpeg format.

So any suggestions on that?

no you can define as many chapters ( up to 99 I think ) you want with DivXtoDVD and when you want.
Load the file you want to convert, then use the treeview to see the chapters, then you can add, edit, delete new or existing chapters.
For sure you need to do that BEFORE encoding to VOB / ifo, We don't have the option to define chapters after the conversion. And if you need more help you can contact the VSO support for that.

Oh... thanks a lot, then. That certainly gets rid of a lot of issues. Again, thanks. Now all I need to learn how to do is author the DVD correctly. I'm guessing I ask 'bout that stuff in another section?

One last time, I have to thank you guys.

All you have to do is convert the files one at a time and then use DVDShrink in the reauthor mode and turn them into an ISO file and burn with your fav burning program-easy, huh?

Quick Question for anybody..I've seen a lot of players that ADVERTISE Mpeg4. Will these players play AVI's, DivX,Xvid's,I know they are all based on Mpeg4 technology. With their own little HO-HUMs.I see a lot of these players emerging,& cheap too.Starting at 40bucks & UP,I do enjoy the fact that I can put a whole TV series like Deadwood,or Lost on 1 DVD. I don't miss chapters,as U can do a time jump

Do a review search for them. A lot of companies know how popular DivX is, and they'll throw it on just to get more money. Only a few players can actually play DivX files. Google "<name of dvd player> review" or something like that, ask the retailer, or find some way of reading reviews on the dvd player.

There's also a note about these sort of players on the DivX website.

So basically, you're most likely looking at something that's infringing copyright laws.

Hope that helps.

Dear all........

I am using a program that may (or may not) suit everyone. It converts .AVI,.XviD,.mpg, etc, etc to .VOB or whatever you want to convert to.
It is called WINAVI CONVERTER 7.1 and when finished converting, you end up with 1 x .VOB file. Run this through a Movie Producing application and design your own menus, brighten up and/or sharpen. Create chapters, then burn.

Simple

That's nice an' all, but what "movie producing application" do you use? Does it allow you to create menus, put in subtitles, etc.?

Speaking of which, I've got some more questions...

When I was using DivXtoDVD, I created the .VOB files perfectly fine. But I hadn't bothered adding in a subtitle file. One: what type of subtitle files do I need? Two: Will the subtitles be permanent?

And I'm also using the TMPEnc method (again). Like before...

TMPGEnc always says:

File "long long file name.avi" can not open, or unsupported.
Is it 'cuz it's an XviD file?

Answers given will reap many thanks. :P

Hi,

The namie is billy, and i am seriously confused on how to convert my .AVI files to dvd. It is something that can seriously piss some one off.

I have downloaded DDVShrink, dvddecryptor, and magic ripper.

I have used magic ripper many times and have had no problems out of it, it does take a while but it works like a charm.

Thats fine, not a problem there, but now i have a problem of trying to convert the anime i downnloaded wicha re .AVI to dvd.
I have read the manual you guys have posted up here and i am very comfused on how to use them and how to do the conversion. Seriously i am losing hair because of how fustrating this is.

Please, Please help me.

Ohh and if your gonna give me a manual i am rather new to convertiong between the to files and you wil need to make sure to not leave anything out cause i will seriously get lost and screw my self.

Thank you

Is it just a regular AVI file? Or does it use an DivX/Xvid codec? Download GSpot or AVICodec and check the video codec. Depending on what it is, follow that certain guide. (There should be a guide for both DivX/Xvid to DVD and AVI to DVD.)

But, to be more particular, what step of the process are you stuck on?

You could also use DivX2DVD. It's rather simple to use. Just open the file you want to convert, do any editing (like chapter setting) you want to do, and you can burn directly onto dvd or save onto your hard drive.

Then again, I'm very much a noob, too, so you might want to wait for the people that actually know a lot about this subject.

...and my problem's still not solved. Not that I'm complaining or anything, just noting...

Thugan/KajNrig : I use WINAVI CONVERTER 7.1.
Easy to use. Just select the files to be converted, your destination folder, type to convert to and click.

I then us either CYBERLINK POWERPRODUCER GOLD or Nero RECODE2 to make menus, create chapters, etc. You can add subs too with Nero RECODE.
Then write to disc once it's all created.

That's it :)

thugan,

i think the problem is your not using an encoder, to convert .avi to MPEG2 (dvd complaint format).

Is there an option, on magic DVD ripper, to encode the .avi file to MPEG2?
I've not used it, but from what im reading on the programs website is that it can copy the DVD and rip the DVD onto the hdd, that will, presumably, create an ISO image where you can simply burn the image onto disc.

HOWEVER, I dont think its used to encode files. Check your manual to see if it can.

As you have a downloaded a .avi file, to put it onto DVD you have to encode it, author it, then burn it.

If you have read your manual and it says it cannot encode .avi file type to DVD then What you need to do is download Tsunami MpeG Encoder (TMPGEnc - for short), and use that...it is a very easy to use encoding program and there are countless guides for it.

Good luck!!

KajNrig,

The file type of the subs are usually in .srt format, and you can use a program to convert a subtitle file type that is different to this to .srt...cant remember which, but you have a look on these forums or videoHelp.

I've used a program called DVDSubber to add subtitles to the .avi file, make sure you name the .srt file the same name as the movie.
