ok, lets face it, there have been many questions and lots of confusion on what is the absolute "Best" media to use for your ps2's laser lifespan as well as read time and compatability. However there is no "best" media because different ps2s prefer different types. But there is a way to decided on what the best types of media are. This is a survey and we will decide the best media based on the resaults.
List your ps2 version as well as the brand name of the dvd media and the "-" or "+"
List the burner you are using (if you know it)
Put a short summary on how the backups play. And how long the load times are.
Heres mine..
I currently use verbatim dvd+r's as well as Memorex (trust me these work fine) dvd+r's.
I have a version 5 ps2 ntsc modded with a dms 4 ezi pro and using toxic OS .2, for those of you with this config and using os .3, try os .2 if your dvd backups dont boot.
The backups burn and boot flawlessly but i have noticed that there is some skipping in cutscenes for some games as well as long load times.

PS2 is V4. Currently using Ritek G04's which are -R. I have just ordered 50 Verbatim -R though. No particular reason, just fancied a change.
Burner is Pioneer 108, burn speed is 4x
Backups play just like the orignals.

I can tell you that Sony buys first stamped Taiyo Yuden media to use on retail Video Games. The first stamped media are very expensive and are almost never released to the public. The stamper that produces the media is used to stamp about 1 million pieces, the first 100,000 never see the stores shelves. After that the stamper, like all other things begins to erode( not to the point where it is bad but enough to notice slight differences), the media from the last batches are going to be less effective than the first. There is no way of telling what you are buying, so I would personally buy media from an authorized Taiyo Yuden reseller like Rima.com. They would most likely get the best.

ok so has anyone noticed any difference between Verbatim dvd+r (no mmc dye) and Tayio Yuden Silver Dvd+r disks?
I was thinking of purchasing Tayio Yuden over Verbatims today but since i already have verbatims, i only want to make the purchase if it will make a huge difference in load times and gameplay
