use this to see:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=Optodisc&dvd...
just type the codes in and it gives reviews etc. as i said earlier you cant got on brand name alone - some brands use different manufacturers and some smaller lesser known brands use MCC and TY for production.
i find traxxdata always run fine and are well priced and extremely reliable (imho TY might not be needed and are expensive in UK)

Does anyone know if the the e-gear at Target DVD+R media is any good for PS2 backups. I would like to know before I buy. The reason I ask is because they are on special this week. Thanks.

I heard PS2s prefer DVD-Rs more than DVD+Rs, but i also heard PS2 V12 perfer DVD+R, but im not sure if thats true...currently im using a V12 modded with DMS4 and using DVD-Rs...so if you have a v12 than sure get a DVD+Rs if you want

I use only Verbatim DVD+R, when burning i set booktype to DVD-ROM. Sometimes i use also a TDK DVD+R discs. Both Verbatim and TDK burnt @4x works perfect on my PAL v7 with DUO2SE modchip.

staples 8X DVD-R are indeed CMC Mag. I have great sucess with this media. I burned only 5 coaster out of 50. Most of the coasters are my fault. I burned at 8X. It boots up fine some are slower than others. How can I resist when it was on sale for $8 for 50.
Beware. Stay away form compusa media. They are worth crap. Had 200 of them. About 30 are dvd coasters. When it played, it tends to skips and freezes. IT boots up slow and 2 or 3 games does not boot up at all.

HipN, since you have a v12, i cant exactally tell you if its going to be perfect for your v12. I have heard that verbatims are some of the best media on the market, but they dont work so well on my ps2 so i stick with ritek G05 or Taiyo Yudens

I have burned all my games at 4x on staples media and have had no problems. Flip top using swap magic 3.6. Here are a few more popular games Ive burned on them. God of war-using sonix thread-finished the game in normal mode. midnight club 3- dead to rights 2- prince of persia both games- gta san andreas. Ive burned about 30 games with this media and have had no problem.

I learned the hard way that Staples brand DVD-R are among the poorest quality media I have come across (labeled CMC MAG). Problems I have had are choppy cut scenes in games like Digital Devil Saga, several coasters burning Psychonauts, and losing entire episodes on a season disc of STNG. All of these problems were fixed by re-burning on better quality media like verbatim DVD-R and tdk DVD-R. Even Memorex discs have had great success comparitively, but I'm sticking with Verbatims from here on out.

Does recordable media read better with a solder mod rather than a swap magic, or does it not make a difference.
