I need help getting the exploit onto my MC. I got a new GameShark that can read the PSP and copy files to and from it and the MC. My problem is that when I copy the exploit, it just keeps the name of the file(ex: when I copy Exploit.p2m, it's just an unknown save called Exploit.p2m on the MC). When I copied a save from the MC to the PSP, I looked at it on my comp and it was a .ps2 file. Is there any way to convert from a .max or .xps or anything else to a .ps2 file so it'll copy it as the exploited Your SystemConfiguration file and not just Exploit.xps?

P.s. I have all the right files and configs in the exploit, just can't put them on the MC.

You can use the PSP to transfer files to the PS2 from a computer. The PSP has a usb port and when you have the cable, you can go into Settings -> USB Mode. That way, it serves as a USB hard drive. I can put files into the psp on my comp and then use the new GameShark to take those files and put them on my MC.

It's really handy 4 me cuz i got a 1GB mem stick in my PSP ^_^

Tomorrow, my pal's comin to visit and he's bringing me my GameShark2 V2 that I let him borrow before he moved away! YESSS!!! It's the old one that required the GS-MC for the codes. I've heard that one will let you run the Exploit CD. What is the process to that? Do you start game without codes and when it says insert cd you put in the exploit or u put in a PS2CDROM game (so maby it'll read the exploit with the CD lazer frequency and not the DVD???) and before u "hit X to continue THEN u take the lid off the disc drive and swap the cd for the exploit? Am I correct? Not? I think that works...

dont be lost. go to www.exploitstation.com and read the faqs/tutorials for your specific equipment. or go to www.ps2hd.com and read some more on game compatibility issues. you're on the right track and almost there. just a li'l more needs to be done.

go to this link http://www.exploitstation.com/smf/index.php?topic=5262.msg30594#m... and you will find an installer that should do most of the work for you. i havent tried it since i dont need it, but you should find this easy to deal with

and all that junk is my sig. i just listed what i use on my PS2. i started off with the retail hdadvance2 because it supported 200GB drives. but now that i know better, i use (one of) the latest patched HDloader. my homebrew apploader is the unofficial launch elf 3.78 right now, but i havent changed my sig since the beginning. and i used the codebreaker (8.1) method to do my exploit.

zOMFG!!!! The uber geek works with my old Gameshark2 V2 for ps2!!! Now i have this problem. Whichever PSX game I use(FFIX / GS2 PSX / JetMoto), it only works 1 TIME!!!! OMG I HAVE TO REINSTALL THE EXPLOIT EVERY TIME I WANT TO BOOT ELFS!!!! I installed and booted the ubergeek exploit and I opened the cogswap. I put in an old PS2 game that was a PS2 CDROM and from there I swapped it with the normal (independance) installer cd and it "installed" (and yes, I have all my id's in the TITLE.DB) but now when I put my games in, the PS2 just freezes. All my games do this so for now I just reinstall with ubergeek's every time. Does someone know the problem?

Ok. I'm on vacation for 2 weeks, but when I get back, I'm going to try and make another (Sjeep) independence installer disc. This time, I'm going to include FreeHDLoader. That'll be fun. Well, I'll know if it works when I get back.

So...

Out of experience, which do you guys think is better?

MyPS2, PS2OS, or PS2Menu

I want a program that'll run games off mah HDD and that can stream vids off my PC. Will I have to use uLaunchElf to just switch between that and Reality Player? I'm tryin 2 figure this out so when I get back from vacation, I can have a sweet rig. What'dya think?

MyPS2 is probably the best of the 3. i've never used it, but PS2OS is not bad, basically does the same stuff launch elf does. and ps2 menu also.

if there have been updates with PS2 OS, then i havent heard about it yet. but in my opinion, from using it last year (may 2005) when i found out about it, it outperformed LaunchElf (3.41 at that time). but if there have been no updates to the PS2OS program and it still performs like it did, then the latest ULaunchElf outdoes it. in my opinion.

i have never used MyPS2 but i hear it plays media files like music and movies, but since i dont care about all of that, i couldnt give better details on it. i have a CD/DVD/DivX/AVI/MPEG player all in one nice settop box. and i figure that it'd be better to do it on that machine than killing the laser on my ps2. but i guess not everyone is fortunate enough to get all of the technology that exists, so go with myPS2 for now.

but seriously, try everything that way you know what you dont like.

Okay... if I don't get stoned for asking such a stupid question, it'll be a miracle.

But... I'm going to put myself out there because the only real way for me to know once and for all and totally clear up all the confusion (and "coasters" as people call them)... is to simply ask.

My PS2 is not modded. In any way at all. No chip. No Swap Magic. No way of transferring via USB flash drive (unless a digital camera still counts like I was reading a few pages back in this thread). Only a CD writer/re-writer - no DVD burning devices.
Nothing but a version 3 Mad Catz/Fire International GameShark 2 that eliminates the swap method of the older Datel/Interact v2's and below because of the auto-eject feature.

All I know how to do, is boot PS 1 back-ups on it. I could do it all day and in my sleep practically.

In all the research I've done, tutorials I've found, and posts I've read...
Most people say they're using the swap magic and GS2 v2 and lower discs to boot their exploit installer CD's, not to mention the mod chips, hard drives (which I also don't have), etc., etc...

So I'm taking that to mean that you absolutely, positively must
already have some method of booting PS2 CD format back-ups to get the installer CD to install the files onto your PS2 memory card; then once that is completed, you use whatever PS ONE disc you used to create the TITLE.DB file for Indy Ex installer disc to trigger the file with all the ELF's you loaded to your memory card.

Is this correct?

If so, it certainly isn't that I mind coming out of pocket at all for the SM discs (I think they'd be great to have honestly) but before I make the purchase I'd like to find out if it's entirely necessary to begin with.

The thing that has been a bit unclear to me is whether or not it's at all, in any way, shape, manner, or form... possible that the Exploit Installer CD be a PS1 format so that it can be booted like any other PS1 back-up, have the app run from that disc once you use whatever technique it is to boot PS1 back-ups, and have the exploit transferred to your memory card during the installation process.

Then from there you use the method of the trigger disc to run the exploit and ELF's on the MC to now be able to boot PS 2 CD format back-ups on the system.

Basically, what I'm asking is: Is the Indy Exploit installer disc a PS2 CD back-up to begin with or is it possible to create one that will boot like a PS1 back-up?

Hope someone is able to follow what I'm asking.

Dumb question though... I know.

But at least it'll help to clarify things for me and possibly any others that may have the same question.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, the reason I ask is because I'm not seeking to boot actual PS2 CD back-ups of copyrighted games... I'm just trying to get the SNES STATION running on my PS2 (was able to get imbNES already going without a hitch because it's PSX based) and from my understanding of the tutorials I've read in using the SNES emulator, the disc you create for it would be considered a PS 2CD-R unlike the imbNES disc.

Thanks so much to anyone who can simply help clear up this small bit of confusion. :)

Take Care...

Personnally, I've found that the Snes emulator I use laggs ALOT on many games like Mario Cart, but I don't know if it's Snes Station that I'm using. If you have that new GS, It has a memory manager right? If it's the same one I just got (which I think it may be.. does it have planets in the menu background?) I could install the Indy Exploit on my MC with that universal TITLE.DB and back it up to a file using the GS Memory Manager. Then, you could get the file and borrow a pal's USB stick and put it on ur card using your GS. If the GS isn't as gay as I think, it should work. You can totally bypass the "installation" process and you wouldn't need any CD's. BTW to answer your question, yeah, I think the exploit installer cd is PS2-CDROM, because that's how I start it in cogswap. Try using the ubergeek exploit installer cd (google ^_^) if you totally run out of ideas and just get an old GS offa ebay or a friend. I had an old GameShark2 v2 lying around, but I thought it didn't work anymore. I got it to work (thank the lord) but to boot it up, I have to disassemble the little GS memcard thingy and hold the chip onto the metal prongs in the memcard slot with my fingers. After it boots, I can re-assemble it and it kinda works almoast normally. I'm just happy that it booted the exploit cd.

I hate that nobody has a back-up "savegame" file of the exploit in the new GS format. That would make it as easy as going to walmart, buying the new GS, putting the files on a PSP/Jumpdrive/USB sitck, and using the GS mem-manager to replace the "savegame".

Lol. I hated it when I used to get stoned too and it doesn't make much sense, because all I wanted was answers, not complaints.

well i'll tell you like this... people get to complaining because others (newbies in general) want immediate answers to questions that ALREADY have answers. all you have to do is read thru a couple of forums. if you have any amount of time on the internet, you really can find what you need. i lurked around in about 3 different forums reading things (for a couple of weeks) before actually joining some and asking questions. most of the info was pretty much on point and i only had questions when things just looked totally stupid. but i just wanted to stress the point that the info is there. you just gotta look for it. no one wants to keep repeating the same answer that was given back on pages 4-7 and we're all the way up to 20+. new people keep asking for that same answer but never really read the forums so they missed it. the first thing others will tell you is "RTFM!" uhhh, me too. so read up on stuff from the first page. some people provide extra links to things in their posts that have other/better info that could help out. but that's my opinion, put into text form. i dont know how everyone feels. but seriously, do you wanna keep repeating something that's already done and overwith???

PLEASE HELP ME. I've been trying for about six and a half hours now and really want this mod. I've tried two versions of the independence compiler. I use ps2 save builder (which avira antivirus calls a virus) to change the saves into .max format for my armax. I have a scph-30001 PS2. I use 3 different slus/scus PS1 games (FF V through VII) and still no go. It just keeps booting up normally. What am i doing wrong?

I am using windows 98 to use this mod. However, I found out that by default, win98 does not allow the use of all uppercase filenames. It turns out that when I tried to add a bootloader, windows would automatically change the filename to (mostly) lowercase. I believe that this caused an error inside the loader by renaming BOOT.ELF. Change this setting in folder options and there should be no more red screen of death.

Thanks Whodis! :)
Very, very much appreciated (and disc saving - I've probably got about 7 coasters dedicated to this alone XD)

Well... I'd decided to try and get the exploit transferred using the usb storage device method. I still haven't gone out to pick up a supported pen drive... but I got some interesting results using just my GS 2 and digital camera.

I formatted the digicam's flash memory card (I have two cards; both the Lexar brand - one a 128MB and the other a 256MB) to the FAT32 file system through Windows 2000... then copy and pasted a compiled exploit using PS2 Save Builder which were converted into the GS 2 native format used and recognized for official game saves, much like the one's you'd get off the official GameShark website (file extension .md).

Then I booted up my GameShark 2 in the PS 2 (yes... it appears it is the one you were saying with the planets and such swirling around in the background), chose the 'Memory Manager/Game Save' option from the main menu, it then asks you if you want to load the game saves found on the GS disc, chose no and it took me to the MC/USB input device screen.

Now here's where the trick occured.
It wouldn't read my digital camera right off the bat and the 'device' part of the menu wouldn't show it as being plugged into my Playstation.

However... I found that when I'd shut off the camera and powered it back on... it would pause to recognize the input device, and the files that were on it would pop up right there on the menu... for about 5 seconds.

It wasn't enough time for me to navigate the cursor to that side of the screen, select the file, and transfer it to the Memory Card.

But...

There was also an interesting glitch that would occur.
If when I booted up the GS normally, and from the main menu, kept exiting and entering the 'Memory Manager/Game Save' option at a rapid pace (basically hitting X to enter and Triangle to escape the menu over and over) the disc would eventually have trouble keeping up and it would actually slow down the operation of the GS to a literal crawl - enough time that if I tried to get it to recognize my digicam ... I'd have longer than five seconds to switch to the device manager list, select the file and transfer it to the Memory Card because the GS was stalling slightly and moving too slowly to perform everything and successfully keep up with what I was doing.

Well, my brother's going to bring over one of the old jump drives I'd lent him a while back today, so I want to learn how to do it that way too. :)

Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks again - it worked great!

so, you got it to install???

I couldn't get the thing to do anything in the new GS. (It basically reads gamesaves, but is only compatible with the .ps2 format.) I'd move the gamesave file, but it wouldn't actually build the "Save" unless it's a ".PS2". Even then, every "Your SystemConfiguration" replacement save in other formats like .max or .p2m (I think that's the other 1) gets rejected :( . Unless it'll work with .PS2, I think the new GS was patched to make Exploitation impossible. But we'll see after I get mine working the old-fashioned way. I'll backup my gamesave of the exploit and send it to you in the .PS2 format and you can try to put it on your card. That would make the installing the exploit with the new gameshark both very possible and very easy.

~Whodisguy

P.s. my ps2 is a 30001 also XD !

hEY EVERYONE i have like 20,000 ps2's and i just got the slimline one and i am happy to say that i found a way to run the exploit on it. i have aolso ound out how to load the exploit on the ps2 without psx disc. this method will also work with all unmodded systems.

Slimline Ps2:
make the memory card exploit as usual and get ready with a memory card and start your ps2 with no disc in drive. now when it gets to browser, go to it and press x. now put in a regular ps2 cd game*blue bottom disc). then the ps2 disc will show up with a blue bottom on the right. now, you open the ps2 fliptop like you normally would without pressing the eject button. this has triggered the disc brake to slow it down from spinning. swap it with the exploit cd. now close the flip top and the disc will start to spin, but the ps2 will thinnk the ps2 game is still in the drive. highlight the ps2 game, and hit x, and your exploit will start to run. now whenever you want to boot the exploit cd, just swap it and you dont need a psx disc.

For ps2 fat ones:
do the same thing exceplt to the slide tool to open the drive and you are exploited without modchip or swap magic.

Awesome...thanks mannyman. I'm going to give it a shot tonight (I've got a v9 to try and get it working with).
If you don't mind my asking just one more question...
I was simply wondering if there was any particular exploit cd version I would get the best results with, given the different tutorials I've seen for creating an exploit CD (like the various one's for use with Swap Magic, HDLoader... so on and so forth). Hope this question makes sense :)
Just the standard build should do I suppose. Anyhow, I'll stop being lazy and give it a try now. Thanks so much again :D
