Do you know where I could find that patch to get SC3 to work? I can't find it with Google. I haven't been able to get my hands on SC3 yet, but my friend said it worked with his HDAdvance 3.0 CD. From other forums they say that the Tutorial and moves menu freezes when you go to them though. When I get SC3 then I'l try it with HDL v0.7c and post the compatibility. Anyway, thanks for all the help.

To each their own

HDL v0.7C and HDA 3.0

Can I do this exploit by using Codebreaker?

as long as the codebreaker is 8.1 or above. you will need it's device manager option to copy the file from your usb to the MC.

Thanks L-Burna for making this guide. Very helpful.
I own both a fat Playstation 2 (it worked here) and a newer slimline SCPH-70012 (didn't work). That's a v12. I know the satin color ones (SCPH-75001, V13) have problems with some USB drives.

Will your tutorial work with version 12? Maybe there's some mod needed to change. Thanks for helping the mod scene!

Well, I still maintain that my program: Independence Compiler is the *easiest* way to achieve it all. And if it wasn't? Well on the 13th of June I also wrote a guide, explaining things MORE indepth:

Guide:
http://console.iscentral.net/content.php?article.8

Independence Compiler:
http://console.iscentral.net/download.php?view.183

For those of you who DONT know, Independence Compiler creates an exploit, quickly and easily, and gets the format right every time (unless the user stuffs up).

It exports as regular files for adding to a CD or save file, it will also export as a CD Image ready to install your exploit, or it can export a pre made XPS save file.

You dont even have to own a brain to use Independence Compiler ;)

For those of you who are still unconvinced, here's a picture:

While I'm on the topic, I should mention that AusDigital is now known as Console.IsCentral.Net, and the website logos will be migrating over the next few weeks.

Yeah man, i second this - the program does all the stuff you would want from your exploit - easy as it can be. All the options in one program, no "programming" skills required

a_l_e_x, has anyone ever posted a working list of all v12 slimline exploits? It would be nice for ppl to understand which ones work and which ones don't (like Independence Exploit).

I dont know if you're using the correct terminology. There is only one PS2 Exploit, and its only for the old PS2, the chubby which will allow you to boot code on it.

There are no known exploits for the slimline PS2's although they can support modchips and swapdiscs etc.

Cogswap (a .elf program that you can use on the MC via exploit installer) will pretty much boot all of the games that Swap Magic will. However, in order to get the exploit to work in the first place (loading and executing .elf programs on/from the MC), you need either a modchip or SwapMagic working first. I think the best approach is to get a flip top/SlideCard and Swap Magic, then load you can load the exploit on the MC using swap method. You can load multiple .elf files, so include HD loader if you want to use HD, cogswap for booting dvd or cd games, media player, etc. If you want to play from discs you can just use the Swap Magic discs only and not even owrry about the exploit. BUt for many of us, the crap SOny laser will wear out fast, so I use like to use the hard drive via exploit instead.

BK89, is what you described working with v12+ slimlines or NO?

There are no exploits working for v12 as far as I know. You can get an external HD to work but that's about it.

a_l_e_x schooled me...all the exploits are lumped under one thing, the MC/Independence Exploit. So no code can be executed from the MC like it was with the fat PS2. Only modchips, swapdiscs & XCM HD Connect will be of any help. With an external HDD & a modchip, it can do most of the basic things a fat PS2 can.
I would trade my slim PS2 for a fat one if I could....I liked the idea of running Linux & other homebrew.

I will keep this short and sweet.

My DVD drive on my PS2 is busted (verified dead/dying motor). I have a DMS 3 modchip. I have a 160GB HD filled with games that I want to play.

How can I play my games with my current setup? Do I need to replace any components or possibly even my whole system? A PM would be truly appreciated.

Erd: can you get to one of those dev modes with your chip? i think it's either dev2 or dev1 for dms chips. OR it could be that for DMS4 chips. one of those modes will allow you to boot without using the cd/dvd drive. i'm sorry i couldnt be of more help.

superxl: no, i can not get to the dev mode (pressing triangle). that is why i am now thinking that perhaps the mod chip is fried. i checked all of its connections though, and they are all solidly soldered onto the ps2. i had it professionally installed, and it lasted for a little over a year and a half before it had problems. the laser is now reading (or at least lighting up red)... and the disc is spinning better. i might try cleaning the lense again with contact solution. the alcohol didn't seem to work perfectly.

BK89 - quick correction: Swap Magic or modchip are not the ONLY ways to install an MC exploit. Action Replay Max (which also does cheats) can install it. It's not as easy to do, but still possible if you follow the right steps. ARMAX is cheaper than Swap Magic and is better value for money i think. This is the guide:

i prefer to use codebreaker for the exploit. i think it's setup just like ARmax but i just found CB VERY easy to use.

I have almost the exact same problem as Erdrick does. My PS2 DVD drive won't spin/read my discs anymore. It's a v9 with a DMS3 chip in it and i would really like to know if there is anyway to install and RUN any loader onto the MC with a USB Pendrive (was thinking of getting Codebreaker or AR Max EVO) without using the DVD drive at all?

Unless Matrix Infinity or Crystal Chip support pendrives (specific), then I think ONLY the Codebreaker & GameShark/AR have the support. They simply treat the USB plug/pen just like a regular computer does. Specific drivers were written to support the pendrive, so not all of them will work, but most do.
