man.... you need to read the forums. that's what they're here for.
the exploit allows you to run homebrew code (progs not licensed by sony) and emulators, backups and other random stuff that makes life great.

(this isnt really related to the topic)but my main question is, if i download a swaping prog like swap magic, can i burn those contents onto a dvd or cd and run it off my ps2 somehow?

the files dont necessarily have to be on or stay on your MC. you can get a HDD to install into your chubby ps2. the MC exploit wont work too well (or at all) on the slim models. you can store the files that you need like codebreaker, or launchelf. launchelf is a homebrew prog that can be stored on the memory card, and allow you to run all kinds of other programs from your MC or HDD such as media players and emulators.
if you down load a swapping program, you'll need to make sure your box is modded because i think you have to have original CDs for the swap magic. as a matter of fact i'm certain you'd need a mod chip for something like that. now if you got original swap CDs then you're good to go, and can do whatever you need. but for backups, you need a modchip.

thnx, but would that system configuration save be an exploit only, or would it be something else if i had one already on my ps2 mc? and do u know anything about that hdloader patch exploit too? cause i heard that it will read more than the standard 120 gig hd in ur ps2, but im wondering how much it will read after the patch...do u know the max, or is there no limit? btw, do u know how to create an elf file urself? one last thing...what version of codebreaker would be appropriate to buy in order for it to see my flash drive or other things?

i think it would be something else. you should already have a sysconf file on your MC. you'd need an additional title.db file so your ps2 knows what ps1 game you're using to do the exploit.
yes the VERY LATEST HDL elf file will play past the 120GB range. i have 0.7c but the latest is 0.7e. supposedly it will read 4 terabytes, but noone has a HDD that large so whatever the max ide drive you can find (400-500GB), should work with no problems. check out my signature. it's got the basic info.
no i dont know how to create an elf, BUT you can look for PS2 development info around the internet. i'm not sure of the websites, but it shouldnt be too hard to find.
you would need at least 8.0 (i think) and above. the version i had was 8.1 so i was in good shape. if you go around and get one, make sure you can take it back to the store if it's not the right version.

not just yet. i'm looking for it myself. check out www.ps2-scene.org or www.ps2hd.com or maybe even google. i havent been seriously looking for it so i can't say for sure.
dont know if you'll want to play shadow of the collossus but there's a patched HDL for that game as well. there's also other versions of HDL that allow for slower HDD access, and that method will fix some games that tend to mess up because the data moves so fast.

you could check to see if afterdawn has it in their files section. if not, then check those other sites i mentioned before. google is always possible.
i dont do patching. my programming skills have died sine i got outta school. 0.7c should read the same thing, 4TeraBytes.

please please help me... I have been searching for two days now on how to install the exploit and have came out with 3 or 4 coasters... my problem is that after i swap the cd out (how i do this is i have taken my ps2 apart and taken the cd drive top off that way i can just take the top off when i want to change cd's) the black and white screen comes up with playstation in the middle and at the bottom is scea... so i know it is trying to boot my cd-r that i have the exploit on but it never does go on past that screen... i want to know what i am doing wrong... everywhere i have searched and looked they have this question but no one has answered it that i can see... plz help me i am desprate... swapping the cd like this is the only means i have of getting the exploit onto my memory card... i think i might be compiling the cd wrong or have the wrong media, i dont even know what kind of cd-r's they are i just know they are regular one's (not black or blue on bottom) anyway, how i have compiled the cd is i used the independence compiler v4.1 and also have tried using cdgenps2... nothing i do works... origanlly i was hoping to use my gameshark v1.1 and usb drive to transfer the files to the memory card... i have followed numerous guides and none work... sorry if i wrote too much but i felt i should include as much detail as possible... thanx in advance for any help
p.s. i dont have a hdd either

i'm pretty sure that you can find tuts on how to do that. the method i used was for playing games. i had the codebreaker and a USB flash drive. i just flat out didnt want to try CD swapping because USB is easier in my opinion. i'm afraid i can't help you out any further, unless you had the codebreaker 8.1 (or higher). sorry.

Hi Burna, I bet you don't remember me but I was here about a year ago talking with you and you helped me get it working... I've stopped using me PS2 for a long time and want to get back into a little modding... I still have my exploit and it works, but I was wondering if it is in all possible to make a MASTER update to the files you uploaded/posted... I'm talking all the current ELF files for HDAdvance and HDLoader as well as the networking ability fully functional and easy to configure (if they finally figured out how to make it easy)... The one thing so dissapointing for me in the exploit was never really getting the whole PS2 to PC over lan working... I think making a super duper updated file with everything working might put most of these stupid questions to rest. Also note that when I did do my expoit last year the super title.db file with 800 slus/sles does not work and I had to resort to making a custom title.db with just one PS1 game as the trigger disk... This old problem might still be in existence to this day?!

hi. I am trying to do this with a USB *drive, Gameshark 5.3, and PS1 cd.
So far its not working.
I've used independence compiler 4.1 to make a IsCentral.xps file.
I copied it onto my memory card.
When I stick in a PS1 cd that (I took the ID from) it does not boot
Does anyone know what the memory card looks like after the exploit is installed? What format? xps file? or is it just copying all the Ps2 boot cd files on to the memory card as is?
Please help :(

what is the USB cable for? do you have a USB drive instead? with the gameshark 5.3 cd, can you copy files from a USB drive to your MC?
you might need to run that .xps file thru ps2save builder and make it a file that your gameshark cd can understand. and also with that ID from your cd, you would need a title.db file included in there somewhere.
the MC looks the same. the main icon should STILL look the same also. just be a bigger sized file.
this is the link i used for my exploit http://www.exploitstation.com/articles/codebreaker_exploit.php , and it uses codebreaker, but i dont see why you can't use your gameshark with it. as long as you have a memory manager program that can copy from the USB drive.

using ps2savebuilder, i dragged these files in
titleman.exe
title.db
ps2menu.elf (and other program files)
to create lots of different types of files
exploit.cbs, exploit.sps, exploit.md, exploit.xps
copying them from USB drive to memory card
and putting PS1 games such as Madden 2000 and Wing Commander III (4 disc)...still don't understand why its not working...followed directions from exploit with codebreaker...
is the problem the gameshark? its copying the files over to memory card alright but why does the exploit have to be in gameshark format? that doesn't make sense...because a ps1 game runs it...
or
is it the ps1 games i've chosen? i'm planning to test final fantasy (PSX) soon...
:( :( :(
do the gamesharks for ps1 work? what about gameshark 3.0?
and I opened the title.db file and for some reason it says BRDATA. Shouldn't I change it to BADATA??

steve:
just curious, are you certain that you NEED keylauncher? is there something specific that older keylauncher can do that the latest version of LaunchELf can't do? it's up to 3.75 (or higher) and prob'ly packed with more features that you'll normally use.
n3wbie:
you dont need to drag the titleman.exe into savebuilder. that might cause something to go wrong. instead of making so many different files, you should find out what file type your game shark actually uses. maybe .sps or .xps. the GS might have a compression feature that you overlooked or something. and it could also be the games. i forgot where a trigger CD list was, but you could check www.ps2-scene.org for that. dont know about GS for ps1 or the 3.0. and yes, change that to BAdata.
