ronwp1 here is my suggestion. try these instructions. follow them exactly no matter what. i've never had good luck with emule default ports. i changed the TCP/UDP ports and have success ever since. here are step-by-step instructions i've come up with that works for me everytime and others as well. i would try at least on a computer withouth wireless for now.

Here are the instructions
NOTE: If you are NOT using a router this may not work. I recommend using a router if nothing else as an extra layer of firewall protection.

this might actually work only if your ISP is truly not P2P blocking.

In order for this to work you need to do every step.
This is a lengthy process. You may want to PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Open emule and click the Options button on the Toolbar.
2. Click Connection
3. Change the TCP default Port to 4660.
4. Change the UDP default Port to 4670.
5. Click Apply.
6. Click the Test Ports Button. A window will open and display both ports tested successfully. But, if they don?t work it may only be because you have not fully configured everything yet.
7. Click the button that says Open these ports on internal WinXP Firewall. Wait for the confirmation window that will pop up and then click OK.
8. Click OK at the bottom.
9. Close eMule.

This step adds Networking Services to WinXP.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components
4. Scroll down and click on Networking Services
5. Click the Details button
6. Check the box for: Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client (this option may already be checked).
7. Check the box for: UPnP User Interface
8. Click OK then click Next***Note***You may be required to provide your Windows XP CD.
9. Click Finish.
10. Close the Add/Remove and Control Panel Windows.

If you are running Windows XP SP2 you need to do the following. If you are not running SP2 then you can skip this next step.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click Windows Firewall
3. Click the Exceptions tab
4. Click the Add Programs button, Scroll down and select Emule. ***If emule is not listed then browse to: C:\Program Files\emule\emule.exe and select emule.exe.
5. Click OK
6. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule TCP and enter the Port 4660. Make sure TCP is selected.
7. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule UDP and enter the Port 4670. Make sure UDP is selected.
8. Now click on the Advanced Tab (next to the Exceptions tab).
9. Under the section: Network Connection Settings, Click the Settings button.
10. Check the list to see if you have two entries for eMule TCP and/or UDP if they are not listed then proceed to step 11. Remember, only do this step if neither TCP or UDP entries are in the list. If there are two entries in the list click the TCP option and edit it. Enter either the name or the IP Address of your computer. (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between other PC?s on your network during reboots).
For the TCP option make sure Port 4660 is entered for both internal and external.
Now Click the UDP option and edit it. Enter the same info you entered for your TCP (computer name or IP Address) and ensure Port 4670 is entered for both internal and external. Skip to step 20.
Start here only if the two emule ports are not in the list.
11. Click the Add button (only do this step if there are no TCP or UDP entries in the list).
12. In the Description of Service enter: emule TCP Ports
13. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between the other PC?s on your network during reboots).
14. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4660, make sure TCP is selected
15. Click OK
16. Click the Add button again
17. In the Description of Service enter: emule UDP Ports
18. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address
19. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4670, make sure UDP is selected
20. Click the OK buttons to exit out
21. Close out of the Control Panel

This step is only if you are using a Router of somekind.
I have successfulley tested this using Linksys routers. I have not tried this on any other brand router. If you are using a router, other than a Linksys router, I recommend you do this next step anyway. Most routers are similiar in Port Forwarding.
1. Go to a command prompt and type: IPCONFIG write down or note your IP Address.
2. Login to your router
3. If Linksys click on the Advanced tab
4. Next click on the Forwarding tab
5. Enter the following settings:
TCP 4660 To 4660 TCP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
UDP 4670 To 4670 UDP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
If you have more than one computer on your network you can repeat step 5 and enter a second IP address. Here is an example how your router could look if you have more than on computer on your router. This way if your computer?s IP Address changed from .100 to .101 on the next reboot it would not matter because you have both IP's configured in the router.
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.100
UDP 4670 TO 4670 UDP 192.168.1.100
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.101
UDP 4670 TO 4670 TCP 192.168.1.101
6. Click the Apply button
7. Logout of your router.

After this is complete Windows XP should automatically install a network Gateway in your Network Connections configuration.REBOOT your computer. A reboot usually is required to start the Network Connections configuration.

That?s It your done. I recommend you reboot especially if you still are getting a LOWID.
Open emule and see if you can connect at HighID.
If you still do not connect it may be because you are using a different router. Remember, I?m using a Linksys router but, again, the settings are basically the same.

If after the reboot and still a LOWID i suggest going back through the instructions to ensure you didn't miss or enter something incorrectly such as a typo in the Port settings.

If you are still not able to connect with HIGH ID then i would say your ISP is blocking or something with them is a hinderance.

Despite what others say regarding my fix, remember, not all systems are the same. You have to find what works for your system. It works for me and for other?s I?ve helped.
Sorry, if this was not a help.

ron, if it's still not working after you've tried punisher1's checklist, i forgot to ask if you can get Hi ID WITHOUT the router. if you are able to try it, you should. if you can't get Hi ID, then you should set the modem up til you get High ID with it, then try punisher's list again.
also, did you test for High ID after disabling (temporarily, of course) your router's firewall?

Hi guys

I have also been struggling with a low ID problem for a while. I have followed punisher's instruction exactly and have had no luck.

My setup is as follows:

Belkin 802.11g router
router firewall enabled
Zone Alarm (free version)
Windows Firewall disabled

I have tried connecting with firewalls disabled, I've forwarded the ports, I've changed default ports, all with no luck.

Does anyone have any further advice?

have you tried uninstalling Zone Alarm? if your Belkin is up to date, you shouldn't need it anyways, besides the fact that ZA is known for certain "compatibility" issues with some progs.
also, have you got current firmware on your router?

hmmm. seems like i've heard this on page 25. fliptunes was having the same problem and removed zone alarm and lowid was resolved.

bevester, i realize more layers of protection is a good thing but it can also be a complete pain in the @$$.

darkflux is correct. remove zone alarm. after you remove zone alarm reboot your computer. most broadband users don't realize that home routers typically have built-in firewalls. just make sure you never put your computer(s) in the DMZ (by default they are NOT in the DMZ).

if you have not done so CHANGE YOUR ROUTER'S DEFAULT PASSWORD! also, if its wireless make sure you configure your wireless security so no one else is piggy-backing off your connection.

if you are running WinXP SP2 you also have the winxp firewall (some people hate it and some could care less). it may help to a degree. just make sure you install Winxp critical and software updates as they are released.

hey guys, i'm still getting a low id...i did everything u guys suggested, the actiontech will not allow me to get a high id (it's a POS!) even when i disable the firewall within it, my ports are forwarded on the usr, but that makes no difference, any other ideas would be appreciated.

ronwp1 i noticed on page 25 @ 29. May 2006 @ 02:49 you said you are using actiontec gt701-wg, with a usr8054 router in line. am i reading that right you are using two routers? if so i really must ask why?

Unless you are really worried about getting hacked i must insist you only use one router. Also, for now don't run this test on wireless. first configure everything on wired. then once lowid is resolved you can work on wireless.

Try one router at a time if one doesn't work then try the other. I recommend for each router config you go back through and redo the instructions i provided. If after you unsuccessfully test both routers one-at-a-time and still have a lowid i will suggest it could be your ISP. We have seen on this forum users with lowid confirm their ISP is blocking P2P's.

i noticed you said your actiontech is a POS. what about the usr8054?
any additional information you can provide could be useful.

let us know.

something else you might check, ron, is if the firmware for both units are up-to-date.

punisher, he's using the usr8054 as a router, the actiontec seems to just be a modem: http://www.actiontec.com/support/broadband/gt701-wg.html
this is the URL for the actiontec.

ron, is there a way to temporarily just use the actiontec without the usr to test for High ID? this would be the most effective way to determine the problem.

also, here's a link for the USR: http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=8054

you should find the firmware for each item on these pages, ron.

darkflux i thought about that too. i figured maybe the actiontec gt701-wg is just a router but then (before my last post) i looked the specs up. Here's what i found: The Actiontec GT701WG, Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps DSL Gateway Modem with 10/100Mbps Ethernet Port and Web-based configuration. 789286805355 MODEL- GT701WG VENDOR- ACTIONTEC ELECTRONICS FEATURES- 54Mbps DSL Wireless DSL Gateway The Actiontec 54 Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway is really many devices rolled into one. It s a full rate ADSL modem that s upgradeable to the new, faster ADSL 2/2+protocol. It s a router, capable of networking up to four computers, via embedded ethernet ports, with a minimum amount of hassle. And, it s a wireless device, allowing your customer to have the freedom to connect to the Internet without being anchored by cables or cords, surfing at more than 5 times the speed of older devices. http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Gateway_Actiontec_GT701WG_Wireless_80...

for the usr8054 it to is a router with a 4-port switch. if you look at the specs in the link you provided and click on the picture and look at the back you can see it has a four port switch.

i am still curious if he is in-fact using two routers/switches to connect to the internet. if what darkflux says is true ronwp1, and one device is only a router you might be better off buying a new all-in-one wireless/router/switch. recommend a D-Link, Netgear or Linksys. but it looks as though you have two already.

ronwp1 again, try running on one at a time and see what happens.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for not being around for a while... I got busy with my new child who is 5 weeks old now...

I did spend quite some time cleaning my pc (or at least trying to clean) from any possible spyware, viruses etc...

Fortunately I did not find any spyware on my machine. I used 2 tools:
Ad Ware
Spy Doctor

Next I reseted my router (LinkSys) and re-configured it according to Punisher's recommendations. At that point, I was still getting low ID.

I decided to give up and just live with the LowID. However, a couple of days ago, I couldn't believe my eyes. Not only I got HIGH ID, but I was able to reach 330 kbps downlod speed.

While I do not have a solid explanation to this, I am pretty convinced that the issue (and most issues) resides with windows xp rather than your router.
The way I see it, the router is a stupid box. If you open a port, it lets the traffic go through that port. end of story !!!

However, windows, is a whole different story. for example, i noticed that even if you turn off the windows firewall, the firewall is still running in the background and you still need to open the specific ports for windows as well (re: Punisher's guide).

Also, I do recommend to TRIPPLE CHECK that you have the latest updates for everything, specially windows xp.

I know this is not much... but wanted to share my findings.

Thanks

glad you got it working for ya, manta100, and thx for tha input, too :)

punisher1, on a hunch, i double checked, and, at least according to the manual, there's only 1 LAN port (page 5 of the manual, which is at the link i posted above). i also found a real pic of the back on another site, and reposted it here: http://darkflux.net/shared/gt701-wgback.jpg . however, the gt704-wg has 4 ports, so maybe whoever wrote up that review (on your link) mistakenly had the 704 instaed (it's been known to happen occasionally). strangely enough, further down the same page that mentions it's capability to connect to 4 PC's, it says it has only "1-port Built-In Switch". hmm... maybe it connects to only 3 other PC's thru wireless ? :-S

you got me... anyways, ron, pun is right, that if you DO have more than one port on your Actiontec, you shouldn't need the USR router, and you should definitely try connecting without the USR for starters.

hey darkflux thanks for the heads-up. not sure who's writing the specs on these things but someone is doing a crappy job.

manta i've seen strange things happen with emule. one day its slow the next its much faster. we have heard that windowsXP firewall is still on even though you select to turn if off. your findings further support that issue.

thanks for the info.
happy downloading.

Yeah... the wonders of Microsoft and windows :-)

so far... I'm on the 5th day and it still connect with High ID (I disconnect, reboot and re-connect to test).
I think the latest security updates that MS released 2 days ago may have to do something with it...

btw... you mentioned your friend who was interested in Media Center setup. Not that I'm trying to turn this board to a marketing tool... but I do provide full service for designing, architecting, building and installing Media Center systems.
As I mentioned before I would be more than happy to answer any questions he may have...

Hiya, this looks like a similar product you could try and mimic the settings used for this one:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Jensen...

All the best Lee

Ps: try disabling all firewalls, then setting it up, once you have it working with a good ID enable the firewall and see if it still works if it doesn't then its very likely a firewall setting.

Give us more system info please...

What firewall software are you using?
Windows version 98, 2000, XP?
How do you connect to the internet?

If you have XP make sure you don't have the XP firewall and the software installed firewall; ie zone alarm - ewido or norton, running at the same time.

Hmmm!

Did you look here?

http://www.jensenscandinavia.com/download.asp?language=English&id...

According to the manual which i downloaded your router seem to have the same settings as all other routers and you should be able to configure port forwarding.

In addition to the router you need to disable your windows XP firewall and configure the ports as well (It wasn't clear from your post whether you already did it). Did you follow Punisher's guide step by step?

hope this helps,

Thanks for the help guys!
I use Norton Internet Security 2006, the windows version is xp and I connect to the internet through a router. And my normal speed is 1500/300.
I forwarded these ports: 8000 TCP, 8001 UDP both on the eMule and the router, but I still get lowid.
There is one more thing I wanted to ask, what is the diffirence between port forwarding and port triggering? and what is firmware?
Sorry guys I don`t have much knowledge about these things!

Firmware is the version of the software that's on the router, updating a router's firmware is like updating to a new version of windows on the PC. that sort of thing, but for hardware, not for the whole computer.

Norton IS may be blocking your emule as well.

since you already have a router, you don't really need Norton IS because your router is your "hardware" protection which is actually a better one than Norton. You can turn the Internet Security off and leave the rest of the features (antivirus, antispam etc..) on.

Try to check the following in Norton IS (I hope I remember the steps correctly :-)

1. Launch the program,
2. Click on Internet Security tab
3. click on Configure
4. click on applications
5. Find emule in the list
6. Change its settings to "Allow All" or something like that. The goal is to tell IS to allow emule free connection to the internet.
You can also delete it from the list and then the next time you lauch eMule, Norton will ask you what to do. Choose "Always Allow".

hopefully this will help. If this doesn't help you may want to turn Norton IS off then launch emule and see if it work.

Again, having a router allow you to get rid of the windows Firewall (comes in Service Pack 2 if you updated - you can see it in the control panel) or Norton IS.

To turn the Windows firewall off:

1. open control Panel
2. Double click on "firewall" (if you see it)
3. check the "turn off" radio button
4. close the window

Then follow Punisher's instructions....

hope this helps... happy downloads :-)

W-power i agree with manta - remove Norton IS. norton IS is probably the worst software you can run on your computer. and worst yet is i have NEVER fully been able to un-install every bit of it (no pun intended) from windows. to fully remove it is called FDISK, Format and re-install.

here are the instructions manta is referring to. follow them exactly no matter what. i've never had good luck with emule default ports. i changed the TCP/UDP ports and have success ever since. here are step-by-step instructions i've come up with that works for me everytime and others as well. i would try at least on a computer withouth wireless for now.

This way if your computer?s IP Address changed from .100 to .101 on the next reboot it would not matter because you have both IP's configured in the router.

***Important: No matter what you do NEVER compromise the security of your system. I would NEVER recommend turning off your Firewall(s) to get a HighID for long term use. One exception to turning off a Firewall would be to do a simple test to see if a Firewall is causing the problem. Turn the Firewall back ON as soon as you run your test. If a Firewall is the problem you need to configure Ports to allow access through the Firewall.

Hope this helps. Sorry, if it didn't.
Let me know if I you have any questions and feedback is welcome.

Thanks alot all of you who have helped me get HighId. I did all the things that you said, and when I connected the eMule to the server I got HighId. Finally I can download faster thanks to this forum!

guys, sorry for the delay in responding to your suggestions, I've been very busy.

I did not uninstall Zone Alarm yet, however, I did remove my router temporarily, and simply have my DSL modem plugged directly into my computer. I STILL didn't get a high ID when I connected. What does this suggest to you guys?
