Fixed!

I formatted my pc, but the damn dl was still nigh to a halt. So I concluded it must be my router. I rebooted it first and still no change - then I had it reset (formatted? he he) and voila - thing is working like in its best (initial days). I could joke around with some de-clogging software, but reseting it seems to quite do the trick.

And thanks for all the replyes of those who tried to help.

great to hear it, Slavic80! another thing to keep in mind is to try to connect to servers with many users (check the Servers page). this may better your chances (slightly) of finding a few more people with the file. for those of us with "unhelpable connections" (read: "Bad ISP"), the more people you download from, the higher your overall dl rate. my average speed in eMule (per user) is only about 5KB/s, but i've gotten up to 70 KB/s (all users) at a time, once connected with multiple users. MY ISP limits only the INDIVIDUAL connections, not the total download rate (en masse). once you have new sources on your list of sources for a file, they SHOULD stay with you even if you switch servers. this can be helpful when searching for files, too. at least, this is what i've been told ;)
keep in mind though, that for RARER files, you may need to connect to multiple servers and search at each, since not everyone has the same files...
just a random thought.

Hello friends...
I have a small doubt in Emule, and I wish someone could help me out...In some servers I'm getting a LowId and a "port 4662 not reachable" message...I have a Speedtouch 330 (modem)...and Norton's firewall...I deactivated the firewall just to test the connections, and still I'm getting the same problems...But,there are other servers (like Donkey Server from 1 to 6, Big Bang from 1 to 7 and more)that give me always a HighID...I've re-installed my modem and still this happens...
Even though I'm using Donkey Server 1 and 2, I like to see every thing working properly...so, if anyone can help me, I would appreciate...Thanks for your time

P.S.:Sorry about my english errors, but I'm portuguese... ;-)

hey everybody! good news (for me anyways): i recently changed providers (ISP), and guess what: NOW I'VE GOT HIGH ID!!!!
yup, i knew it was just my good ol' Internet Service Providers, "servicing" me real good (lol). well, when you live in a small town, you take what you can get. if anyone lives in North Central Indiana (USA), DO NOT go with Rochester Telephone Co. (RTC). i'm running with REMC now (an electric company), and couldn't be happier :) thanx to all the fine folks here at afterdawn forums for your tips and everything, you're the best in my book!!!!

i should mention i found out something, if anyone living in my area is reading. REMC uses Satellite internet, and upload speeds aren't great (256k max), not to mention 5GB upload and 17GB download per "rolling" 30 days, which kind of sucks for eMule purposes, but it's still better than RTC's constant connection cut-outs and Low IDs.

Hmmm, Rolling 30 day limit period? That is harsh. Still these people have to protect their bandwidth somehow.

yeah, i realize that too, sam. and at least they didn't just make it every MONTH, like some ISPs. that'd be TOO much.

btw, i like your "computer collage" signature :)

Yeah, lol when i first tried it I used 200x200 ish images, they were HUGE!!!! I've now descaled it. I feel lots of text doesn't get read, so why not have pictures do it for me? My sig has [img ] this that and the other all over the place, but meh, I think it looks alright. Keep wondering whether there's anything that needs adding.

Hi

I read all this with interest but there is one problem I cannot solve reading this thread. According to my users manual from my router I indeed need to connect to the ip adress wich is named in the first post. But when I enter it, Internet explorer cannot display the page. What did I do wrong?

well, first of all, be sure your PC's ethernet port is set to DHCP (dynamic) settings ("Obtain an IP address automatically" in the port's "Properties", under "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"). if that doesn't work, you might try "resetting" the router, using the small hole (usually on the back), about the size of the tip of a pen. let me know if those don't work, i'll try to think of more ideas.

Hi Darkflux...

Hi Aquatica, Firewalls can block you, stopping a correctly configured router from connecting. Disable any firewalls while setting up the router to confirm your router settings are correct. once you have got the connection set up, enable the firewall and try and try to connect, if you can't you know the firewall is blocking you somehow.

Q. What firewall software; if any, do you have.

Hmmm!

hi Darkan9el!

darkan9el's right, Aquatica: software firewalls can definitely interfere with your initial router setup. besides, many routers have built-in firewalls, so software ones become somewhat redundant (especially Windows' ICF :P). as long as you're not on a corporate server or protecting the only copy of the official Twinkie recipe, you should be fine disabling, or even uninstalling any software firewalls ONCE YOUR ROUTER IS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED, and as long as you're certain your new router HAS a firewall integrated...

another side-note, if you go to Command Prompt (Start > Run... > cmd ), and type ipconfig , your IP address should list as something like 192.168.1.* , where the asterisk (*) is something like "2" or "100". if it's: 169.254.***.*** (where the asterisks are any numbers), then your PC is not "seeing" the router, and it may be faulty... i've had this happen to someone i was working for in the past few months, and called tech support, only to have them tell me to simply "return it". but if this is the case (don't worry, it seldom is), then first try to reset the router as i mentioned earlier. you might have to hold the button for up to 30 seconds to fully reset it.

Just another form of Adware, I don't think the search engines etc will take kindly to censorship and exclusion and best way to kill that is to vote with your money, just don't buy anything from the promoted shops and move to a neutral ISP.

I won't read news papers because they force feed you misery and politics, I don't have sky or cable for the same reason.

The day of the marketing Zombies is here.

Well, quite an extreme approach but I take your point. We do have Sky, but I for one am usually sceptical of what I see in news broadcasts, and use my noggin to work out what's really happened, rather than just avoiding it altogether. Besides, we mainly use sky for documentaries and films, plus of course the Simpsons!

Extreme... thats me lol!
I confess to watching the Simpsons, probably one of the most intelligent programs on TV. I work a lot; got 2 businesses, so don't really have time for TV etc plus I like the out doors, sports and such. I'm saving my couching days for when I'm +80 lol!

i'm sorta halfway between darkan9el and sammorris: i NEVER watch the news (my friends fill me in on the important stuff), but i ALWAYS save time for some cartoon or another ;) i've got Satellite (i'm guessing "Sky" is sat?), but only watch a few hours a week. i usually just leave my TV on FUSE or Cartoon Network, but it doesn't really matter since after work, i'm usually "on call" as "The Computer Guy" for my small town (lol).

anywayz, if anyone hears of a way "around" this mess [short of breaking and entering my ISP's building ;) ], feel free to fill some of us in here. sure would make a few lives less complicated.
cheers all,
df

P.S., i'm with you sam, i can't wait 55 years for my Simpsons ;)

Yes, Sky is the UK satellite service. Nice to know you have a local technical reputation!

i believe you mean "Versalink". anyways, the user/pass combo is:
Username: admin
Password: password

if that doesn't work try your Verizon User/Pass combo. read that here:
