My idea of tough survival is getting a waitress to bring my steak sandwich at the local tavern. Nowadays if the critters stay in the woods and off the roads, they're safe from this shooter. Well ... most of the time.

a lot of the stuff he does is last-ditch type crap, where it's either risk dying or actually die. a knowledgeable survivor is hard-pressed to get put into many of the situations he has been.

I know what you mean. Common sense says go around a lion's den even if through is the more exciting route. Who is going to trek through barren terrain for a week just for the jollies?

To me that show is a joke, sure he puts himself in dangerous situations but they are all rehearsed.
Myself, I have had a carry permit since 1983 and never go unarmed, anywhere!

Okay. Survivorman is out there, but look at who is out there with him. He's not doing the camera work himself. If survivorman starts to die of thirst or hunger, will cameraman spot him some food and drink? The show is more about what could happen than what is really happening.

LOL We were discussing surviving in the wild, not the hood. ;) I don't think I ever saw Survivorman carry a gun. Maybe the cameraman had one. ;)

in survivorman, they drop Les Stroud wherever...he packs the cameras himself and does all his own crap. no camera team, like on Man Vs. Wild.

*edit*
there was an episode where he was given a gun, but not allowed to shoot any animals. he would up splitting some bullets and using the gunpowder to start a fire.

yeah, canada has a gun registry.funny thing is if i want an illegal handgun i can get one within about 24 hours.so what good did the billion we spent do? absolutely squat.all it did was make honest gun owners register their guns.criminals, well that is another billion or so.

LOL You got a hood, it's just got more trees and critters than the city environment. Yes it's a gun thread and we're glad to see another supporter of gun rights. We were just off topic for a while discussing survival methods and Survivorman. Being out in the country, you need a hunting license more than concealed carry. ;) Still, I'm like you, I prefer having a handgun close by for personal protection. According to the rules, if your assailant changed his mind and gets away from you, you're not allowed to shoot him.

Well I'm not 21 yet, but as soon as I do turn 21 I'm getting a concealed weapons permit. Unless the navy lets you get one before, then I'll get one before lol.

If the mini 30 is yours, I wouldn't waste the money. Basically the same type weapon and the .30 cal (7.62x39mm) is heavier than the .223. Like I mentioned before, stocks and clips give the mini an assault rifle appearance. Should be lots of AR-15s available, Colt made enough of them. The older models are a bit more rare due to configurations that were later outlawed. Personally I'd rather have an accurized match grade M1 Garand (like those from Springfield Armory).

Off base enlisted personnel are under civilian jurisdiction when it comes to personal concealed carry. On base you would have to have a job requiring the need for a concealed weapon.

I've never used a M1 Garand(except in Call of Duty 2), how is it?

It's one of the more accurate sustained fire weapons available. The reason the military stopped using it was due to weight and in .30-06, it has a noticable kick. It can be purchased in .30-06 or .308 Winchester. The model I like is the M21 in .308. The .308 is usually the caliber of choice for snipers, but they normally use a bolt action rifle.

I'd love to own an HK PSG-1, but it's way out of my price range.

I have a question, how is the S&W 5943 9MM? How much should it be worth if it was used but in good condition?

When I was a child I grew up in a gun toting family, but for whatever reason it never rubbed off on me. As an adult and musician I traveled across virtually every corner of the continent without a gun, and without ever having needed one. I've seen more bars and taverns than most people can imagine (yes I know that some of you can imagine quite a few)and even under the most severe conditions (brawling bar fights with bodies rolling like a giant ball)I found no use for a firearm. I understand the right of responsible citizens to use and enjoy them, although I've never owned one. A sport is a sport and no group has the right to infringe upon that pursuit of interest, except when that individual has demonstrated that they are irresponsible and pose a danger to others. I say let those who are responsible use their guns, but for those who fail that simple test, let's forbid them from ever using them again.

In my opinion if everyone had a Gun crime would go down considerably. Would you want to rob someone if you KNEW they had a gun and would use it on you?
