All I know is that for burning games, Verbatim sucks complete ass. The thing would skip like a man on crack having a seizure. Anyways I recopyed the game to a Memorex (yes a Memorex!) and it works beatifully. I also burned The Incredibles to a Memorex and it works great.
MEMOREX! MEMOREX! MEMOREX 4 LYFE!

@erik1213,
You can pretty much read all over this forum and you will find the results overwelmming in favor of Taiyo Yuden DVD's being the best. It isn't just one or two people saying this but hundreds. Now you can also look up Memorex and see that the results over overwhelming of how poor and inferior that media is to any other media.
It is totally mind boggaling to me how someone can reccomend Memorex at all. I can and do see people have good results with Memorex, but to recomend to someone to buy it is just plain ridiculous. I to had good results with Memorex, or so I thought until I tried to play them 6 month later just to find out they were skiping, jumping and some of them wouldn't even play anymore. So I make it a point to stay as far away from them as possible.

So to the original question you could go with this. These are from personal experiance's

Buying Online
Taiyo Yuden (genuine TY?s there are fakes out there so beware)
Ritek G04 brand these would be the x4 disks again beware of fakes
Prodisc 2nd class media, but newer media x8 seems to work well for people

Buying at the store (Best Buy, Office Depot, Wal-Mart ect.)
Fuji film ? Manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, MCC, Ricoh Japan, Prodisc, Fuji Film all fairly good manufacturers
Maxell ? Manufactured by Maxwell, Ritek, RicohJapan, Taiyo Yuden
TDK ? Manufactured by TDK, Ritek, RicohJapan, Maxwell, MCC, CMC Beware of the CMC brand
Verbatim ? MCC, CMC, TY, RicohJapan, Ritek again beware of CMC which it seems Verbatim is using more frequently lately.

Note: A good rule of thumb when purchasing your media in the store is to look for ?made in Japan or Singapore? stay away from ?made in Taiwan or Hong Kong? When buying online always try and get ?Branded? media this way you can be sure you are getting the genuine article. There is an exception to that rule and it would be Taiyo Yuden disks. You just need to buy from a reputable dealer when buying online. Here are a few I have bought from with good experience. Of course it isn?t going to be the same for everyone.

Supermediastore.com ? Rated number 1 just about anywhere you look.
Rima.com ? Fast and cheap good service
Mertline.com ? Little slower on shipping, but quality media

Ones you should stay clear of
Shop4tech.com ? Let?s just say you get what you pay for.. I received fake TY?s from them

finally a straight answer, thank you very much bbmayo

looking back over the forum, i do see a lot of TY praises, i guess i just got overwhelmed with needing an answer and got tired of all the pointless arguing.

Everyone's opinion is their own stop trying to change people's mind to agree with yours.

Zenith DVD/VCR Combo, it's a little over a year old.

I'm not too concerned though with playback because every successful burn i've ever had with and type of media has played just fine, i just need to be sure that it burns with little to no errors, not like the prodisc's i just purchased which i have had 0/9 successful burns.

okay well i just purchased Ritek G05 White Inkjet Hub Printable's from meritline.com(TY's are too expensive for me right now), but they come with a 60 money back guarentee, so if i don't like them, i'll just get my money back.

I would have purchased from supermediastore, but they only had 100 pack available for Hub printables, so i had to choose meritline.

erik1213,I was trying to help you, but since you gave me this link, I thought you were in the UK.

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=cmVsZWFzZWFyZWE%3D

So I didnt give you any online or offline store names, for the states.
Looking back now, I see that you earlier stated, that you had bought from supermediastore.

As bilbo said earlier we werent fighting at all, as you should be able to tell, by the smiley faces and LOL's and LMAO's
That being said, bbmayo gave you good advice, hes one of the best on here.
Good luck with your riteks, meritline is a good store, as is supermediastore, they are the only ones I use.

o gord, 'the' memorex advocate is back - venomX05

:)

erik1213 - can't get to the media brand you were pointing to on ebuyer.com, but i've been buying 100s of verbatim datalifeplus 8x dvd-r from ebuyer, countries india, singapore and taiwan, not a single coaster & more importantly not one skipped movie on playback (media code MCC 02RG20)

I guess the joking around is over. :(

I kinda of glanced over the post, but I was in no way saying he should buy Memorex. I hate to sound rude, but I could really care less what anyone buys. My thing is, if it works for you, then good for you!

The numbers concerning TY and Memorex are going to be different in every avenue, I just have a really good place to buy my media. Who knows, maybe it will crap on me, but maybe it won't.

So, in closure...let me say this...nah...don't have anything else to say! :)

LMAO!!!!

Anyways, lets not anyone take things seriously, I know bbmayo was trying to help, and it is great information don't get me wrong. But for all of those who just joined in, please read over the posts! Over the last couple of days, it has just been one big joke and it wouldn't really suck if people started taking things like we are saying seriously!

If you all want to keep the game going, you know what to do!

LOL!!!

;)

I have found Verbatim to be a very reliable, good quality DVD+R. I've burned about 400 to date and only had about 5 or 6 that were duds (or maybe it was Shrink messing up - crashed during burn cycle each time). Phillips is pretty decent too if you want inexpensive but good picture. I would ask the forum if anyone has ever tried Optodisc. They are on sale on iopshop.com (banner ad on afterdawn.com) 100 DVD+R for $19.50. Has anyone tried Optodisc or bought from iopshop.com that can tell me whether either is any good?

erik1213, I too had bought a 50 spindle of Prodisc's (inket printables from Rima.com), and had nothing but trouble with them. Out of 50 about 30 are unplayable on my DVD player. 10 of those 30 failed burning, and another 20 just won't play.

I am torn between TY and Ritek, but will probably go with TY because I need DVD+R inkjet hub-printables, and Ritek only seems to have non-hub-printables. Anyway, I'd still like to know how your Ritek's work out for you.

Good luck!

erik1213,

Another thing to consider, Lite-on's actually perform better with dvd+r media. If your set top player doesn't like +r media you can always use Lite-on's bitsetting tool and booktype you backups to dvd-rom (most compatable format, only works with +r media). I booktype all my backups dvd-rom and have yet to find a player they won't work in. Not to say Lite-on's won't burn dvd-r media so long as you stay with the good high quality stuff like Verbatum DLP or TY.

BTW stay away from memorex.

With name brands outsourcing the DVD manufacture (ie Verbatim has multiple "grades" due to varied source media, how can you tell what quality the disc is when you see it on a shelf? Does the lable give it away, or do you have to open the package to determine if it is good.

No sweat...I think that some people misunderstood what we were engaged in. But that's cool, because it still going on, so IF you want to join in on the fun, you can meet in the Safety Thread title "Ridiculous Mods" or the "Memorex" thread.

Oh...saugmon, thinks the pic should have the matching bra strap! So I think the word is out!!!

;)

See ya in there if your going to join!

MEMOREX IS THE BEST!!!

True true...

I think I have ran my course in this thread...

BTW...I THINK I got some bad Memorex's, just so you know! But it might have been Nero. :)

But I gotta check when I get home!

Anyways all, threads looking good, and I hope eveyone finds there answers to the best media they can use.

Have a good one!

;)

Media Quality is #1 on the list, also burner (firmware) and write speed... (slower is best)

This is just my experience:
Ritek = Good (4 out of 5)
Taiyo = Very Good (I've used Fujifilm) (5 out of 5)
Verbatim = (3 out of 5)
TDK (2 out of 5) (I think this one was CMC)
Memorex (CMC, also 2 out of 5)

Just my 2 cents

Pariah,

As far as Verbatum is concerned, DataLifePlus is their best grade. Usually as long as they are DLP or say azo dye they will be MCC and you will be ok.
