This thread nosedived yesterday and today is a new day"

Who are you? The afterdawn police. Did you read the article in the second link I provided? Did you not see the relevance? Do you not wish to learn?

"-R is more compatible...it was the first format to come out then came +R format... "

Can you qualify that statement please?
2 or 3 years ago that may have been the case. Today? I think not. Read the articles in the links, then come back with an adequate response.

Pulsar.

Sorry to sound harsh to you guys, but if you make a post, you have to be able to back it up.

pulsar, i did read your links, great info there, am sorry for not saying so before. I used the word 'maybe' as it's not my place to police anything. It started getting a tad personal that's all. Not only on this but on another thread. I tried to make that reply as inoffensive as possible but looks like it may not have worked.

Okey dokey then! The beauty of this forum is that the threads can go in all sorts of directions. You have to be careful sometimes with what you say, I do not mean to get personal (BTW, which other thread do you mean? Do you have a link?).

My links were VERY relevant to the post. Knowledge is power!

naw, not saying, it goes on and on otherwise. i just tenderly tried to nudge the thread (and myself!) off the dark path. My problem is i get very goldfish memory, like short attention span so i just don't remember things like differences between - and + clearly. I think i'm just reaching mid-life. When i started latest job a few yrs ago i began self-teaching myself Unix Admin. Initially it was hard going, say for 1st 6mths, then got much easier. These days i just can't remember stuff i setup the day before. I guess having no more room for DVD's on my boat (55foot) is taking it's toll. Anyway i digress !, i push DVD-R Verbatims from Singapore, India and Taiwan for all they're worth, burnt at 4x as i've already got far too many crappy bulkpaq 8x (burnt at 4x) sneering at me on the shelves..
:)

Agreed, peace all :). I was only trying to help breddick with his particular situation. Since he wants to send copys of his vidios to family and friends and wanted them have the best chance of playing in all their set top players and he is getting a lite-on 1673 dvdrw which is capable of bitsetting, I simply recommended +r media (which does perform better than -r with lite-ons throughout a broader spectrum of media) booktyped dvd-rom. This is based partially on fact and partially on personal experience. Forgive me for trying to pass on the best information I possibly can. Too many are set in their ways and are unwilling to listen or experiment with different or new technics. Once again, peace.
