I have used Decrypter or CopyToDVD for my DL backups and they have turned out fine. The only coasters I got were with Nero. I guess it comes down to what works for you. Too bad they are still so expensive that you do shed some tears when they fail. Also, it does depend somewhat on the player. I have an old Apex that won't play them and a new Sanyo that would also freeze up where my Sony, Panasonic DVD-R and old Toshiba do fine with the same disks.

I have an Apex "Cheapie" (about 30 bucks!) player I got from
Wal-Mart about a year ago. That sucker will play anything! It doesn't care if it's DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, or DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM, it'll play it. As far as CloneDVD 2 supporting Dual Layer. Absolutely it DOES! I've burned about 20 & except for the first couple, Before I changed my burn speed from default maximum in CloneDVD 2, to 4x with the newer Verbatim Dual Layers, they have ALL played Very Well!

[bunnyrip],

I'm just stating the facts that I have had and also ben forwarded by senior members of these forums. I have the newest and latest burners, as well as the most updated firmware, and all I have gained was wasting away more DVD+R DL Verbatim discs then the actual product is worth.

Also, as I have received replies back I as well as other find their no need to even need to RELY on Nero express to finish up the burning process for this product when it should be a full supported feature within CloneDVD2 (2.8.5.1)

I will say I too honestly am very impressed with the results and the movie quality of the [first layer] of my backups, bust as for the second layer those are un-viewable and over 10 new dvd players seize up and reject that layer transiton problem.

If you have had different results send me a pm and let me know what you have tweaked within the program to get it to recognize and be able to seemlesly watch both layers without problems.

I have contacted Slysoft as well to look further into mine and other users including [senior memebers] having this same exact problem and will see if a fix or tweak is provide from them directly.

@digit777,
You DID set the target size correctly in CloneDVD 2 to DVD9DL didn't you? And select Clone DVD, not copy titles. I do it this way:
Enable AnyDVD, insert source disc, let AnyDVD finish and turn solid red again. Open CloneDVD 2, select Clone DVD, set target size to DVD9DL, after analysis, set speed at 4x. Away we go. let it do it's thing. Of course I always disable everything not needed, screensaver, internet, anti-virus, etc. I don't modify any of the DVD at all with Dual Layer. Basically a FULL COPY. It works for me.
I hope you can get it work for you my friend. I have done the same thing with Nero Express too. I just select Copy DVD, set speed at 4x.
FULL COPY. That also works very well.

[bunnyrip]

Regarding setting the target size correctly in CloneDVD 2 to DVD9DL that is something that I ALWAYS have done in the past, as I like to see the compression chart set at a FULL 100%. Regarding AnyDVD, I always let that run in the backround, as I do like that prog. and the constant frequent updates to it. Also when I begin CloneDVD 2 I choose to clone a dvd including all titles and menus. But regarding setting the drive speed, I do believe I have let it stay at the default of maximum. My Plextor burner burns all the way up to 8X DVD+R DL so that may be a factor, but I do like the fast burns. But if that is in fact a factor I will take the trade off for now. Honestly I like CloneDVD 2 as I have turned all my friends onto the product, but for some reason we have just hit a snag of bad luck with our past DVD+R DL past [back ups]. I just bought a couple of new dvds, so I'll give it a try again, but hope my dvd players don't give me the transition layer middle finger again. Talk later.

I too have a Plextor, in fact I have two 716A's, and yes they do go fast, have done 16x on single layer with very little errors. However, DL is another bag, I do not go above 4x, and prefer 2.4X which produces great backups and no freezing at the layer break.

[digit777] I think we have found your problem. Faster isn't always better. ESPECIALLY with DVD+R DL media. The newest Verbatim DVD+R DL discs work best at either 2.4 0r 4x.
I have tried both, my LG GSA-4163B burns these best for Me at 4x.
( I'm talking playback results & compatibility) Just in case you haven't, DO be sure you have the Latest Firmware for your burner, if not, update it. Later Dude. Hope it works. Better.

[bunnyrip, arniebear] thanx for the updated info. Can you let me know where in Clonedvd2 I can then decrease my burn speed, rather than have it still set on: Maximum? It just sucks that you buy the fastest DVD+R Verbatim DL discs and a fast drive to have to decrease your burn speed, but at this point I'm still trying to troubleshoot the DL problem. Later.

[bunnyrip] It appears some of that guide has been removed. Basically the preffered write speed it at the last stage before you burn on Clone DVD2? Let me know the highest setting you have selected for your preffered speed and have done DVD+R DL disc backups? And give me a honest %percentage% of how many succesfull DVD+R DL disc backup replicas you have completed without layering or other errors? Thanx.

The only part of the guide missing is "Ripping". You have AnyDVD enabled when you start, so skip that anyway. The speed setting is in the select output method part. It's "preferred speed", see the "maximum" pre-selected for you? It's a drop down, click it & I personally set mine at 4x for Only the Newer Verbatim DVD9 DL. Percentage of Quality playback back-ups with Dual Layer & CloneDVD 2? Out of 20 , I had 2 that were not the greatest. I reduced the writing speed to 2.4 the first time I changed it & it played back Perfect, I tried 4x and it also played back Perfect. Choose either, I am sure you'll be fine. As I stated before, be SURE you have your burner's Latest Firmware. Update it if you don't. Good Luck!
P.S. I would check your Firmware version against the latest if I were you , Before you go any further. digit777, I would use 2.4x speed first & see how it does to be on the safe side.

Yes I'll do a couple of expensive test [back ups] later, and try at 4x. Regarding the latest firmware, my plextor drive is fairly new, but as always the first day I got it home later that night I had installed the latest firmware update from Plextor. That's always a first. I'll mess with the latest Clone DVD2 later, as I do likes it's overall functionality and ease of use, but just hope that these test back ups BURN and PLAY properly on a couple different dvd players. I'm still awaiting to hear back from Slysoft, and when I do I'll let you know.

your burning to fast try it at 4 speed and all your problems will go away also use good discs. i use verbatim at 4 speed even though i could burn faster if i wanted but i always make coasters. so 4 speed max burn and you will be happy with results.

I have NEVER had pixelation with CloneDVD 2. Or Recode. I use only quality media, and as a general rule I burn at 4x or 1/2 the media's rated speed. The only exception is Taiyo Yuden Media which I burn at 8x with SUPERB results! I'll even go as far as to say that CloneDVD 2 has always given me the BEST Playback quality I have ever seen!
Use Quality Media & don't burn too fast. Also get the compression to a good level. Most alwayts do copy DVD title only & deselect all audio languages you don't need. Epecially deselect "DTS" if it's there. It doesn't matter how fast a machine one has. As long as you have a decent CPU, and plenty of RAM, good burner & Quality media you CAN get High Quality Back-ups!

if you are going to backup dvds be smart purchase AnyDVD and clonedvd2 with good media you wont have frisbees or headaches.i have over 2,000 succesfull backups and adding as i type those 2 programs are the only 2 that i have done every dvd out there to date with all the new encryptions without 1 frisbee, error anything perfect.check the other forums and see every dvd you see that people havent been able to copy or having problems with errors (software issues)i have done i am backing up movies that are not released yet and have had no problems perfect.and by the real programs from slysoft.com if it was not for them.i would have the headache other people are having with other software out there and my collection would not be what it is.so be smart and go on a burning frenzy best of luck to you

I also have copied several dual layer backups using AnyDVD and dvdclone2. Always get an excellent copy, even on (don't get too upset, the price was right) Memorex. However, I burn at the 2-2.4 speed.

As far as I know it is 4x for a dual layer, have heard of some Verb 6X though. However, Plextor drives will burn disks at twice the speed. If the disk reads 4X they will burn at 8X, and 8X can burn at 16X.
