wow, all your speeds suck! sry to say it but they really do. my average speed for a dl is about 150-190kb/sec. and yet i am still uploading at my max. i have my port settings different though. my are set at 1-20000. it seems to work for me. i use bit tornado to dl too.

What gives, i usually download 625kbs from fast servers, but i am only downloading at 80kbs at bit torrent. And uploading at around 90kbs. I can see its not slowing down on uploading, but downloading is too slow, even though it may be fast for some peoples.

3 mbps cable
toshiba modem
linksys router
using bitcomet 0.52
no xp firewall
2nd computer connected to router but no connection between the two. I averaged 17kb/s on 2 gig file with a max of 33kb/s and max upload set at 20kb/s. I've read pages of this forum and tried some things with no success. Will connecting directly to the modem help? Well I'll just let you tell me what I need to do to help.

i see most people are having problems that are connected through a router so that is probably the cause for most i dont have 1 myself so cant help you there.
some of these might help http://bittornado.com/ and http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl
also do google search there is some info there to had that will help
the download speed you should get on a 512kbs connection is 62kbs no more than that but saying that i have had 90kbs before but only for about 1min after resuming a download.

ok after like posting the message about me getting such good dl speeds. my bittorrent like crashed. it wont stay active downloading. for some reason like after 5 min of dl, it will just freeze. i know i am still able to dl at about 100kb/sec-200kb/sec but it wont for very long it will just freeze. i have tried every bit torrent program but they all do the same. i have been able to prolong the time before it freezes though by going into the processes menu and setting the dls to realtime. but still it will freee. this sucks. if any one has any answers for me please do tell. thanks.

the reason why some of u ppl dont know how to open ports is because the stupid ppl that post and go on about opening ports dont tell u how.

first u need to find your default gateway, in the system tray (bottom right hand corner) you should see an icon of 2 computer screens (its like a network sorta thing), double click that icon, then u should see your internet connection in a new window, or at least a local area connection thing.

double click one of those and you will see a window sorta thing come up, there will be a 2 tabs on the top of the window, click the one that says "support" and you will see your default gateway and ip address etc.

type your default gateway into the address bar of your internet explorer browser, then u will get to some site which has your internet settings and a whole bunch of stupid stuff, so yeah just look around till u find a port forwarding bit, or a page with NAT or NAPT settings.

Hey folks,

Just like to say im new to the site & saying hi to u all.The problem i have is like most others on this forum, slow download speeds of bit torrent.I have downloaded bit tornado,i use either the suprnova or torrent bits site.I have also went into my network connections & opened a port for bit tornado,im using 8888 ports. However i still do not seem to be getting the fast download speeds that some are getting,i have checked the hash id & port to see if its receiving & it says that it is,is there anything i can do? Your help would be very much appreciated folks.

Ps. - I have a ntl cable modem downing 600kb/s apparently & no firewall up apart from the xp one.

Hey all,

To be honest I have NO idea about the 'details' of my computer. You see, my download rates for large files on BitComet 0.53 are incredibly slow, the fastest I have had so far is around 9kb/s. I have been researching on the net about how to increase the speed and I have read a lot about routers but I don't think I have one.
I understand that I need to give more information but I don't know what so if you just reply asking me what you need in order to help me in anyway just ask away!!! Really sorry for not being able to tell you more!
Cheers.

Hey i have had the same problem until i swiched programs. It seems that bittorrent and bittornado are just really really slow. I changed to G3 Torrent. it works great. it also has alot more options than Bit Tornado. I recommend that all those that have problems use it. I cant remember what site i got it from so just search google. Trust me you will not be dissappointed. It works great. But just like most torrents if it does not start up fast it means you need to stay in it longer to connect to more peeps. Also the longer you dl it seems the faster and faster it dls. DL it you will like it. You have my word on it.

To some of you getting low download speeds and have done everything from port forwarding to different clients, you might try something else. Now not this may not work with everyone, as it may really be your internet configuration. In my experience, overall system performance actually increases connection speeds considerably, as everything you do on your computer works through the processor, memory, etc.. Try disabling different processes that you dont really need enabled. If your running windows xp especially, on a clean boot services that automatically start running in the background that are internet enabled round up to about 30, give or take. http://www.tweakxp.com/performance_tweaks.aspx
check out this site. Also try increasing the size of you page file.. If you have a large hard drive, use that to your advantage.

if you need help with port forwarding or router, look above at the last message i posted.

if your still getting bad speeds and your in australia or some country, the reason could be because most people that use bit torrent are in america, so thats why its slow

i have tried port forwarding for the ports 6881-6999 on my router. i forward to my computer and the rates go up to about 26k/s. it should be a lot faster since my cable can d/l off sites like microsoft.com at 300k/s. i want to get this fixed. i don't know if its a problem with a firewall because i can u/l at 26k/s.

i know people are saying that i need to upload first but my share rating is at 1.708 and i've uploaded 247 mb already. seems like i should be able to start downloading a bit faster by now.

as for a software firewall, i'm pretty sure i don't have one. i have norton system works but there is nothing in there about firewall. the firewall feature in my windows xp pro isn't enabled. however, my bittornado still has the yellow dot indicating that i'm behind a firewall. is this because of the NAT?

i also read another post that said that some isp's throttle certain ports such as 6881-6999 so i've changed my ports to 10000-10118. my router is now forwarding those ports to my ip. i also changed my bittornado to use those ports and i restarted my computer after i changed those settings in bit tornado yet when i do a netstat at the command prompt, it shows that i'm still connecting through ports 6881-6999. i hope this isn't the problem.

thats about all the info i know at the moment. can someone please help me out and tell me why i'm download at only 10k/s but uploading at 20k/s? i would like to fully utilize my bandwidth. thanks.

Hey people, now that i have forwarded my ports & disabled my xp firewall i am now getting faster speeds, however should i be getting quicker? I am using ABC bit torrent software just,my downloads are usually now between 40-60 kbs & ive minimised my uploads to 3kbs.My broadband is 600kbs from NTL,im not complaining here just wanting to know if i should be getting faster or what? im also using sygate software firewall.I also know that it counts on how many seeds but even when there are alot of seeds it still stays @ 40-60 kbs download, just wondering if i should be getting quicker?

Try forwarding the ports through your firewall, sometimes that will help. Your firewall will still monitor those ports, but will free them up to increase your download speeds. My average download speed is around 475 Kbs, every once in a while it will jump to about 800. Upload still stays low around 15kbs. I disabled most of the useless services windows bestowed upon us, most of them useless unless you run a server and are connected to other computers. If you are not, I would recommend disabling them. Just click start>Run> Type: Services.msc>
Disable what you dont need.
