Ok guys i need some major major major help and have been losing sleep past few nights as im goin nuts. For the past 3 weeks i have been gettin downloads in access of 100K/s plus using burst. This monday all of a sudden my downloads were reduced to 40K or so. My next door neighbor still was goin strong at 100K plus. I left it and still on Tuesday same problem. I can see that im not able to connect as much to other peers to download things as i was the past 3 weeks. IM being snubbed a lot more for some reason, i have noticed. I have passed NAT. I didnt change anything. SO today i got fedup with gettin 30K or so when i have been getting 100 plus.
I changed the MAC address on my linksys router, reformatted hard drive, got a new IP address, and still cannot exceed over 30K. I tried bit tornado and have noticed i still cannot connect to more than 6 peers max and am getting a lot of snubs still. WHat the heck has happened in the past four days and how do i fix this problem. Please respond anyone or email to agupta3818@comcast.net. I use linksys router and modem and have comcast if that helps.

ankur3818 I had the same problem. I was dling everything way over 100kb/sec and then one day it just shot stright down to 5kb/sec if even that. I also do have a linksys router and have comcast. I tried everything also and even reformatted. Then i decided to change the program i used to dl torrents. it now gives me on the slowest torrents fast speed in excess of 100kb. the program is G3. it also has a lot more options that you can use than bittorrent or bittornado. I reccomend that you restore your settings that you had before and use G3 to dl. it works.

Hello all,
Have been using Bit Torrent for some time and iv only once had a full 60kb speed. Usually i get around 12kb/s.
I have read about opening ports etc, the port range that I am using is 6881 to 6999 on full rate setting
Does this mean these ports are forwarded/opened? Any idea how to get more speed?
Thanks in advance
oh yeah im using Bit Tornado, 1.7GHz, 512, XP on 600k connection.
Thanks

if your ports are forwarded and your still not getting good speeds, well 2 more reasons might be because there are not enough people seeding it to you, as in you are not downloading the file off many people at very fast speeds
or the people you are downloading off are somewhere far far far away in somewhere like iraq

OO...er, Well im d.loading some popular files with plenty of seeders/leechers :(
But it is still v.slow. Iv turned off microsofts firewall and am currently operating behind the yellow light as expected.....
Any ideas what else i can do? does bit torrents port range mean those ports are actually forwarded already or do i need to do something to open those selected ports? If so how do i do it?
Many thanks

ok well, even though theres heaps of seeders, they are probably uploading to heaps and heaps of ppl so yeah that might be why, im only guessing so i might be wrong.
and if you look on page 3 of the message boards i have posted a message on how to open ports because the people that say to open ports dont tell you how to do it

my ld speed is always around 50-80
it was a lot lower around 10-20 on good days
the best way of setting up your torrent downloader is by setting it up as a dialup/isdn so your upload rate stay at 3-8 and your max uploads at 2 the easest way around it with out messing around with other setting
it works for me on bittornado
can bring a file of 800mib down in around 6hrs

This Massage is for the person's following Kcc76 please do not use his idea of adding a client to your internet connection. This will not speed up ur D/l. He had said in one of his massages that Xp has a built in fire wall which he is Wright but when he is saying to add a client or service between ports 6881 -6889 of your internet connection. In turn this is only opening your firewall between ports 6881 - 6889 for that specific client (Such as Bit Tornado) Now your are open to an attack from him Through this ports he is a hacker

you really dont know what you are talking about, do you. He said to open these ports b/c if you dont open these ports it slows down your dl speed. And when you get G3 torrent it seems to work better then bit-tornado. it is a more stable program then bit-torrent. all you have to do is just do what everyone says, by opening your ports, and having your upload speed at least 80% of your total upload speed. trust me i have used both bit tornado and G3 torrent. Bit tornado seem to chash in the middle of the dl. G3 has not crashed yet and dl faster with the same settings as bit tornado. it is an over all better program and gives more options. if you do not want to take my advice than just dl at slow speeds while i fly by at 300kb+/sec. <<<<<<<<ZIP, <<<<ZOOM, <<<<<BYE<<<BYE. <<<EAT<<<MY<<<DUST.

Actually for 56k the top speed you will ever get is a Maximum of 8kb/sec.
This is affected by, the modem your using, your telephone lines, and what you isp offers.
BUT, i most common speed that people get is around the 5-6kb/sec mark on 56k.
Im on 56k, and i get around the late 5 to 6kb/sec mark.

I don't see any "forward port" information/settings at my router address. I do have a NAT setting, but all I can do is disable it or enable it.
When I disable it, it flashes to 256 kb upload (which is what my 1.5 mb/s cable modem has), but then shortly after the download just completely stops. When I enable, it just goes back to the usual routine of 20 kb/s upload and 10-30 kb/s download for bit torrent files.
Help me! Please!

G3 is fast but it has some bug.The problem i had is hard to connect to some tracker. Azureus is better in connecting with peers and seeds.how can i know which port to forward for the trackers? Is there any way to know the port that were used by the peers??

That might help some.
I'm wondering how you go about finding that IP number to insert if you don't have those two little computer icons on the system tray. Also, you guys are saying if I just free open some ports (forward them), download speeds just start increasing? Just like that??
I don't think I have any question as how to setup, just to get the Gateway IP address dealy.. :|

you need to open the port number 6881-6999 on your firewall(the one in the network connection and if you are yousing another one such as NortonFirewall) and the router(if you are using one).
you need to change the setting on the BT clint to the right connection.
some Ineternet provider have somekind port blooked, you need to open it.
if you have the green light you are good to go.
my connection speed around 150 and some time 260kbs
hope this help

I still have crappy under 10kb/s speeds. I have 3mb/s Mediacom cable and am using a Linksys router. I forwarded the ports on the router and changed the ports in BitTornado but still have the yellow and crappy down and up speeds. This sucks!

I have Cable and i noticed that you will always have up and down speeds, But there is a way to increase your speed. for some reason Bittornado does not like the really high speed cable (ie. 3mb/s, i have that too) but there are other programs that do. believe me. dont be a sceptic (or however u spell it). get a different program like Azureus or G3 torrent. they will both give you high speeds. but of course like any torrent you dl it will take time to connect to peers not too long actually with the high speed but the longer you are on the torrent the faster it will get. trust me they always say that if you dont upload at least 80% then you dl speed will be low. that is not so true with G3 or Azureus. they allow you to dl at fast speed but gives the other person control if they want to upload to you fast. most peeps use bittornado so they dont have that option to slow down the upload rate to you. so with these programs you can dl faster leach and have you upload saved for something else. just fiddle around with the settings. i keep my global upload settings at 10kb/s and my dl at unlimited. there are alot more settings you can mess with and it will make it go faster. Trust me. I am only on this forum to help people to dl faster. i am already dl fast. i get around 250+ i even seen it at 400kb/s. (also i am here b/c i am too lazy to unscribe from the emails. lol). SO GET IT!!!

Yah I am using Azureus now. About the max download speed I saw was 100kb/s but it wasnt for very long. Im still getting 10-15kb/s the majority of the time. Right now Im getting 5kb/s...
Maybe its just the torrent. Im getting Doom3 and of course theres tons of people d/l it right now...
