Make sure to select no when Windows asks if you want it to search for the drivers and then select that you would tell it the location for the drivers and then point it to the folder where you extracted the P2K files to.

Read this below, which i posted a few weeks ago (Quoted from another of my posts). You should also get the right links you will need for the correct files.
NOTE: Make sure you have a archive extracted i.e. WinRAR. (There are links on other posts to find a .zip prog.)
Are you sure you have all the right downloads and files? You will also need the P2k Drivers WinXP. You will find all the appropriate links in this thread.
This is the method I used to install my mPT for my V220, but as far as i know the files you need to install, are same for every make and model.
1. Make sure all the previously installed versions of MPT are deleted. Ensure you do this from the Control Panel in the Start Menu. Then, Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to mobile Phone Tools and click on remove. Also make sure that you DON"T plug the phone in with the USB cable until you have installed the programme fully.
2. Go to http://www.free.cz/motorola/ Click on mmpt_1.23c_EN.zip, the one from 9 July. Install by using an archive program to extract the files and then click on the Install/Setup icon in that folder. When it is almost installed, an error message may pop up saying something about 'getbooks'. DO NOT click OK, just CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the task. This will stop it from uninstalling.
3. Go back to the same link and download mobilePhoneTools_2.2..> from 17 May. Extract it - it may not look as though it needs unzipping, and the icon will be an update icon, but unzip it anyway and use the set-up icon from within the file.
4. There are other updates you can get. But first, get the first two versions installed properly, and then programme can use Live Update to search for updates for itself. I only installed up to v2.21 then used the Live Update option and it installed right up to v3.25, and all the ones in between. So let the software update itself.
Next, you need to download the P2K drivers.
5. Go to http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php and click on the P2k_Driver_WinXP or the one for 95/2000, if appropriate. You have to unzip them but there isn't anything that you have to install.
6. Restart your computer, when it is back up and running, plug the phone into the computer. It should automatically detect the new hardware and the drivers.
7. Once it has done that, click on the icon for MobilePhone Tools, which should be a picture of a phone with blue rings behind it. A phone will appear on your screen and the icons on the right of it are your links.
8. You will want to back-up your data from your mobile on your PC before you do any synchronising. The option to do this is in the main menu under organiser, Mobile Phone, Back-up/Restore. You can choose where to save your backed up phone data, if you choose.
9. If you decide to update your version, you can do it through the Live Update option in the main menu.
Let us know how you get on, and get back to me with any probs. And feel free to PM me.
Good Luck!
Gem

You will have a generic version of the motorola model on your mobile phone tools that says initializing right?
click on the phone where the menu button is.
click setup
go to general setup
click the communications tab
click change modem button
click next
make sure motorola usb modem is highlighted
click next
click next again
Wait for it to be detected
click next again
make sure mototola gsm is highlighted on left
then make sure your phone model is highlighted on right
click next
click finish
click ok
It will say initializing for about 30 seconds (depending on how fast your computer is) and it should detect. then your ready to go. if this works (hopefully) keep a copy of it, because you might have to do like i have to do and do it every once in a while.
let me know how this comes out. good luck..

Hey Chicksmom
I followed your directions on setting up the phone, but there was one problem. When you said "make sure motorola usb modem is highlighted" there was no Motorola Usb modem option.
I know my v220 has a usb port and its hooked up, but it doest detect it or anything.
When I go to device config wizard the select device area only gives me...
BCM V.92 56K Modem to choose from.
So I go into Add Hardware Wizard from there and i try install a new modem. I click on Motorola and the go down to Motorola USB Modem (since that is the one i want i presume).
Then it asks which port i want to install it in. There is only 1 option that says COM1 so i choose that. So I click next and it says I set it up, but when i go back to the select device too its not there.
I do the BCM V.92 56K Modem option then it says everything is fine. Says device has been detected, but could not be identified. Then I choose my phone from the list and get it. Then i say okay and it starts to initialize it, but it does it for a while and eventually doesnt do anything and says mobile not connected.
can anyone help? please!

Try this:
Click 'Change Modem'
Click on 'Other Device' (it should have a yellow ? next to it)
You must then select which COM Port to use.
If you are not sure, there should be a button called 'Check COM Ports' - click on it.
The computer will then check it's own ports and tell you what is in the ones that are displayed.
Which ever one the phone is plugged in to will say ' Motorola USB Modem', select this option.
Click on 'Next' and follow the instructions.
The computer will then try to detect the appropriate driver for the phone automatically.
It should then detect your phone.
Post back when you've had a go.

K I did what you said and it only has COM1 and COM3.
COM1 says Communications Port
and COM3 says BCM V.92 56K Modem [Modem Detected]
I had my USB and phone hooked up to my front USB ports, so I decided to try the ones in the back, to see if it would detect it better or something, but no go.
I'ts always saying Modem, im wondering if I need some kind of USB Modem driver or something? iono im really confused, because the 56K modem is all its detecting.

have you not downloaded any drivers at all?
Go to this site and DL the driver for P2k_Driver_WinXP http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php
I also downloaded some other drivers from this link: http://www.free.cz/motorola/
Motorola_USB_Modem_D..> 29-Jun-2004 18:22
P2K_driver_2.3.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:19
p2kman.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:13
p2kman2.zip 30-Jan-2004 15:19
The ones from cz/motorola are not essential but i found that mine detected the phone faster when i had DLed these.

hmm i just thought of something...
in the little tutorial Bart44 gave I dont know if i installed the P2k_Driver_WinXP. I mean, i downloaded, but on the tutorial it says "You have to unzip them but there isn't anything that you have to install." So i did, but i didn't know what else to do with the files. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Okay, ill try to dl those and see what happens.

When you unzip it, direct it to save it to the desktop so that it is easy to find. You can move it later.
When configuring your device in 'general setup', browse to the folder you unzipped the archive to.
Also, make sure you go to cz and download the Motorola USB driver. I think it is a useful driver to have.
