this is what i did in a nut shell

soft modded original xbox hdd with mechassault
ftp info over to desktop (eeprom c/e)
created linux disc with xbhdm
read step by step instructions 3 times untill i understood it
applied instructions to hard drive
formated/locked hard drive
put in xbox turned on got code 06

tried chimp2.8 followed 1.6 instructions as i have a 1.6 box
had alternate power source for slave hard drive
cloned hard drive as said by instructions
locked it via motherboard (tried 3 times all 3 times locked but still code 6)
then tried to lock w/ eeprom.bin

now what is wrong with what i am doing, i am going step by step nothing i do is wrong. my hard drives are 100% lockable but neither one can get passed that code06 shit. garrr its getting irritating :(

The latest releases of XBMC will read FAT formatted USB devices as will Xbox linux. Keep in mind speed is limited to USB 1.1 tho... 1.5 / 12 Mbit/sec

Ok did it confirm that the xbox was locked? did you type lockhd -a or did you enter in the password manually you might want to start all over and when you mod the original Hdd with mechassault do the back up and use that eeprom. do everything again with the linux disc and make sure you type lockhd -a and make sure it confirms that it was locked.

i appreciate it man. my xbmc build's says "September 2007"(while the media player says August 2007) ..hope that's close enough, otherwise all i've got to do is replace the default.xbe with a more recent release right??

Ok try this go Here and download Liveinfo it is a program that will show your hdd's key. load the eeprom and choose the HDD you want to lock and it will calculate a password for you WRITE IT DOWN!!!!! and when you type lockhd do not type -a it should prompt you to type it in type what you wrote. See if that works.

Just tried upgrading my XBox's Hard disk, copied the C and E partitions to the Linux folder as instructed, and also the EEPROM is now correct. However, when I boot from this new 80GB hard disk which is supposedly a copy of my original 10GB disk, it loads the default MSDash. Clearly I did something right otherwise I would get an error code when booting the disk on my Xbox. On the original hard disk, it used a .xbe shortcut to load xbmc by default which I assumed would copy over as well so the new hard disk would boot xbmc by default also.

My question is, what should I try now? I can copy stuff to this new hard disk using xbrowser.

Thanks in advance, Boopop

When turning on your xbox, did you use the eject button or the power button? The eject button will load the msdash where the power button will load the softmod on a dual boot softmod.
Personally, if it was me and I only got the msdash with the new hard drive, I would apply a new softmod and ftp everything back over to the new directory structure.

I tried to reapply the ndure hotswap softmod, but I get read errors while copying the files. Then when I try to boot the xbox, it boots to a blank screen (with both eject button and power button). I tried both option 1 and 2 (replace C with ndure) in the installer.

Try updating your copy of XBMC, I had a similar problem that was resolved by updating.

Hey people, could somebody help me? I have this problem:

I just got a new 500gb hard drive for my softmodded Xbox and I followed all the instructions for Xboxhdm 1.9 and everything went well until I put it in my Xbox. The Xbox gives me error 6 which I checked and it means something like the Xbox can't unlock the hdd...I heard that's because the hdd was locked to work with a different motherboard (aka another Xbox)? how come? I have the original eeprom that I ftp from my Xbox to my PC and then put in the xboxhdm eeprom folder!

When I try to unlock the hdd with Xboxhdm to lock it again it does nothing. I type 'unlockhd -a' and it shows the normal stuff as usual when you lock it too, the hdd model, the hdd key and such things...at this point I thought it was already unlocked so I went and tried locking it again and it tells me it's already locked and that I should unlock it to lock it again! didn't I just do that? I tried it many times and it still tells me the same thing and the Xbox still gives me error 6! why is this? I didn't use somebody else's eeprom! can anybody help please? I've got the eeprom from E/backups/eeprom/backup/eeprom.bin. Now, I saw another eeprom somewhere in TDATA for some reason and checked it with notepad and it's completely different to the one I got from the backups folder (also checked it with notepad), would this one work? I still have some CD-Rs left.

I tried unlocking with the unlocking password (which is incredibly long) that I got from hdinfo.txt (or something like that) that was in the same folder the eeprom.bin and bios.bin etc were but still no luck. I also tried 'unlockhd -p XBOXSCENE' and also 'unlockhd -p TEAMASSEMBLY', tried those 2 on both all caps and all lower caps and still doesn't work. When I put XBOXSCENE it says it's wrong but when I put TEAMASSEMBLY it doesn't say anything and goes to the security features of the hdd and all that that appears after you locked it or unlocked it. I thought it was probably unlocked so I tried 'lockhd -a' again but it told me it was locked and needed to unlock it in order to be able to lock it again! that means that unlocking commands are not working! If it matters I have a 500gb Western Digital SE that I know was completely lockable besides that xboxhdm locked it without any problems at all.

Now, I have like 3 copies of my eeprom on my PC that I check with LiveInfo all the time and they all show me the same serial number that my xbox has together with the same mac address and such. Also, XBMC, Unleash X, Evolution X and Avalaunch all tell me the exact same thing, Xbox 1.6, Made in China in 2004, same serial number, same MAC address everything! and they are all exactly the same as the one I have on the Xboxxdm disc (I checked with Windows Explorer)! I don't know what to do anymore, atapwd doesn't let me unlock it either with a master password like 'XBOXSCENE' or 'TEAMASSEMBLY' or 'XBOXLINUX' and I also heard about 'MHDD' which didn't work either. atapwd always tells me the Drive rejects the changes!

I also tried 'unlockhd -a' and it shows 'detecting drives' then shows the status of the drive, I reboot and when I try 'lockhd -a' it gives me an error saying the drive is already locked!...
