Well Omega my settings are 200x19.5 my cpu voltage is set at 1.4v the the northbridge is 12x at 1.300v the HT is at 11x at 1.300v also but my memory is runnning 9-9-9-24 at 1342/2= 671mhz run your memory at manual setting loosen the timing up alittle bit, I guest these are your sticks here?

if not let me know with post link try 8-8-8-24 or 9-9-9-24 either or will do and give alittle space to oc them as well. I got the these here on my board and running them at 9-9-9-24 at 1.6v and they are rock'en smooth...the trick is Take that Ram off auto:)Here's my Sticks

I got the 790xt-ud4p we almost have the simalar board with only the Rev.1.0 made

mine

yours
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Moth...?ProductID=3263

changes some voltages and some little bit of timings and you can run stable the G.Skill can run Oc'd alittle believe me:)

just did test at 3.9ghz stable enough with LinX same as IBT testing no Errors temps got high as 60c at times my settings is locked in...:)

testing

completed

I tried tweaking things again. I've attempted memory timings before, and I think it likes the new settings. Things seem...smoother than before. Though photoshop seems to have some kind of lag. Perhaps its still a northbridge issue. I'm gonna run memtest again for a while. My previous settings appeared to be fine in memtest :)
Now to see if the new settings are good. Are there any windows programs that can rigorously test JUST the ram? Or is memtest as good as it gets LOL!????

Yes will, those Ripjaws are my ram :D Somewhat difficult to get smooth, but when they are ;)

The last settings made it .2 seconds longer than last time :D Progess! LOL!

When I attempt Intelburntest, this is what I get. If I attempt to bump the cpu voltage up, even a little, it becomes EVEN MORE unstable. 1.4, 1.425, 1.45. Very strange. Obviously the Cpu is NOT the weakest link LOL! My guess would be either the Ram is unstable(Ram voltage 1.65v set for max), or the Northbridge is unstable. I'm curious where I should go from here. Or at least what your opinions are ;)

Oman7,
Your northbridge volts are way too low. I'm amazed it even boots! Try 1.30v for it, and 1.30v for the CPU NB VID voltage. That should enable you to run the HT Link at 2400 as well. Don't be frightened by the much higher voltage. The maximum volts is 1.40v. With the 630 I had to run them both at 1.40v in order to run at 3.6GHz.

Russ, the link you gave me on march 7th, leading to the following forum:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-general/525...king-guide.html
suggested that the HT link width will either have MINOR effect, or even hinder performance. Ok wait. It wasn't that link, it was a link that was posted on that guide that suggested it. Here it is.
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/...vailable-post-7
I however am aiming for 2200mhz, so I at least give it a little nudge ;)

I'll raise my NB volts again, and see what happens.

The northbridge is definitely where I was leaning. Thanks guys. Appears to be stable right now. Photoshop lag is non existent, and windows is running well at 3.9Ghz :D Since I rarely put 100% load on THIS cpu, I'll be happy with that score for now. For I know it can run warmer than I witnessed ;) I'm thinking water cooling if I want any quicker ;) I have been considering it.

By the way, My cpu voltage is only 1.375

Oman7,
I got all this straight from AMD, on their forum. Turn the damn NB and HT link voltage up to 1.30v! ROFL!! BTW, if you set the CPU voltage too high, it won't post! The down side is you have to pull the battery to clear the CMOS! When mine wouldn't post on Auto, running at stock speed, I manually dropped the CPU voltage to 1.350v, and it booted right up!

Oman7,
Mine will run at 3.9GHz, but the Freezer 64 runs out of cooling at that point. Still, not bad at 3.8 with a 130w cooler. Sam figures it's drawing about 160w, I figured it to 150w, so I'm officially splitting the difference and calling it 155w! LOL!! I'm ordering the Noctua tomorrow! Of course I'll have to wait a few days for Noctua to send me the 90 degree adapter kit, but at least it's free!

Omega it seems you got alittle added extra's in your Voltage columns than me?

Russ is right,Try raising your northbridge volts 1.30v for it, and 1.30v for the CPU NB VID voltage.and see what happen seems to me. I needed not to be that high for a stable Oc Reason. I don't know in your case it may just be memory issues don't be afriad to loosen that memory up alittle and every body trys that Auto thing in Oc'ing that don't work No#1 it raises Voltage higher than need be the key is to figure out a stable voltage to run on a Oc at lowest possible and another thing when you changing the clock speed on your cpu your also changing the mhz on your memory so that may take some loosing up my sometimes you get lucky and can keep it tight but how race car drivers say loose is fast and tight is slow.lol

Will,
I repeat! I got these settings from AMD! NB 1.30v, CPU NB VID 1.30v. It's solid, even Linpack doesn't kill it! 10 passes, no problems! Cores never went above 63C, and the CPU never went over 60C. I've done evrything I can think of to kill it, but it just won't quit! It even folds perfectly!

Decided to try it at 3.9GHz, so here's some screens at 3.9GHz

It's pretty cool this morning, but I still have one eye on the temps! LOL!! I didn't do any tweaking at all, just bumped the multiplier up to 19.5. I'll let it run for a while this way, and see what the temps do! It is quite snappy though!

Your CPU-Z is calling your processor a AM2+, when it's a AM3 cpu. Did that not change?

I'm actually thinking that 3.9 is pretty darn good. I don't know if 4.0 is stable at current settings. Probably not. My Vcore is pretty low as it is. And things are already pretty warm. CCE use to encode at 44C, now it encodes at 50C. If I were to get water cooling, I would be lucky to hit 4.3! VERY lucky LOL! And even if it were to hit 4.3, the difference would be small for what I use this PC for ;) 3.9Ghz seems to be a very happy medium. Depending on the temps I see this summer, I doubt I'll go to water cooling on this CPU. Perhaps with the hexacore CPU ;) Or the possible 12 core behemoth coming eventually :D
3.9 is FAST! Noticeable speed increase in EVERYTHING I run. Applications are opening quicker, Aero disables, and re-enables rapidly. CCE is running 10-15% quicker than stock. I think I landed the optimal clock here ;)

hi
i got a core i7 system with a problem. i use the stock cooler that came with the 920 and the idle temperature is 50oc. i am thinking of getting a collermaster v8 to cool it down. after that overclock my system, what temperature do you reckon this could get to?

What kind of overclock should I expect on an i7 980 with the stock cooler? Or with a Zalman 9700 which I reckon won't be that good of a cooler for the 6 core CPU anyways?

The CNPS9700 is actually worse than the stock cooler provided with an i7 980X.

Ahh I see, I figured....
So what kind of overclock should I expect? Is 3.6GHz something that I can do easily w/o burning stuff?
