Yes, I put it in there just like that and it spun fine with my finger. Close the lid, turn on... hits something, but it works when i put the magnet on there without the lid. But when i secure it in the lid, something happens when i close it because it can't spin evenly and hits something.

I too have a problem with my new fliptop case (on a v4). Can anybody tell me which way around the white plastic thing with the magnet in should go? with the silver magnet facing up towards the lid case, or facing down towards the CD/DVD? It seems to make a pretty loud noise either way ?

On another note, just tried a DVD-r backup of my game SSX Tricky and it didn't work .. (using Swap Magic 2 DVD disc).. I loaded SwapMagic2, then inserted my DVD-r backup, clicked 'X', then it started to load SSX but just stayed on the SSX "loading..." screen ?

i believe the magnet go towards your fliptop not the cd. as for ssx tricky i'm not sure but you can always use cdloader and double-check. hope this helps!

Here's a simple question...

When copying PS2 games, can I do a direct copy with Nero or Easy CD/DVD Creator to get my backup? Or do I have to do some fancy stuff?

In short...
PS2 CD games - direct copy with Nero/ECDC
PS2 DVD games - direct copy with Nero/ECDC

I don't want to have to use DVD Shrink (copying files, not compressing) for DVD games, but I will if I have to.

Thanks in advance.

for dvd based games then a direct copy(recomend not on the fly)with Nero will work but for cd based games some of them have copy protection and would recomend using either clone cd or alcohol 120%

Hi,I really need to know if the PS2 flip-top cover and swap magic discs damage the PS2 in any way, like the lens for example,Also do DVD-+R put more strenth on the laser or will that be fine?1 more thing,Ive read that theres a new protection called Fade,do you think its still worth getting the PS2 cover + SMD 3.0? I mean I have quite a few Original games Id like to backup and dont know if they have fade on them,How many games have fade on them? and do you think that most future games will have it too?

Sorry for all the questions, hope some1 can answer them 4 me. :0)

never heard of fade, but i am positive none of your games have it. The only thing that a flip top does to your ps2 is make you read one extra disc each time you want to play a game (the swap magic disc). it doesnt change the workings of your ps2 in any way like a modchip does.

just a thought, since you use DVD Decrypter to make the image, why don't you use it to write the image also?

As I understand it, the reason you can't play a copied game without a modchip is because the ripping/burning program corrects the minor errors that Sony puts in the game disc.

If this is true, then it only seems logical to be able to shut down the "correction" feature of a ripping/burning program and... not need a mod chip or slide card.

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible on any of the programs out there? Is my information wrong? Let me know.

If I'm not mistaken, which I may very well be, Sony puts bad sectors on the cd/dvd for a reason, the PS2 actually looks for these sectors and since your burner can't duplicate these sectors, it's not possible to make a 100% perfect image of the disc.

Will the gameshark still work with the swap magic disks?

How does that work?

I'm getting a brand new PS2 in the mail - will the flip top and swap magic discs work with it?

Im about to gte the flip-top cover and SMD but I read some posts that dvd r discs put more strenth on PS2 lens,in fact someone said double!!!
Is this true?,if so how much more does it put on it,and how long am I likely to have it working b4 it breaks?

Dont want to buy the lid and SMD to find out that in a short amount of time it breaks!!

Also when is the Swap Magic disc version 3 for DVD coming out? is it gonn abe any better than version 2,if so whats the new features?

Thanks in advance :0)

Mt 10yr old and I have been playing my V7 PS2 for over a year with the fliptop and smd's and it still plays perfect. 90% of all the games that are played on it are backups, i got probably 10 original games that have never even been in a PS2, i just opened them, backed them up, and put them away. So if anything does happen, i still have a perfect backup source and i aint out $45!!

Viewing some of the pages on this thread I've noticed a lot of weird info.
Swap Magic 2.0 is what you want for a V9 PS2
DVD+R for the most part don't work, and if they do for you then lucky you.
only V9 PS2 reads DVDRWs (box says it)
Theres no need to make an image of the game, Ive been using Roxio 6 and just straight Copy, my friends do the same with their progs and some even 'on the fly'.
It seems that some games will not work with cheap DVD-R so it's best to use brands that are most compatible (which = $$$). DNAS checks for Cheat devices and rechecks the disk to see if it's original or not, so if you wanna play online then buy the original. There are some people who say they've gotten past it, but as newer games come out DNAS is also updated, keep in mind it's on the server side at that, so a game that works online today may not tomorrow. When placing the white plastic piece with the magnet, make sure the mag is facing down because it's perpose is to grab onto the spindle and keep the game from lifting. When using a flip top and DVDRs clean your system often, for some reason the DVDRs catch a lot more smut then the originals plus opening your case and exposing a bare Lens makes it easier for it to get dirty.
the flip top cover (w/ swap disc) colors I can get a hold of for $50 are Black, blue, white
but for $80 (w/SD)you can get the top and bottom
Metalic Blue, Metalic Red, Flourecent Red, Aluminum (more like silver)
Soon I will be able to get SeeThru blue, red, green, and clear all with mem card doors and spring loaded top that open at a push of a button. If anyone can get better prices for fliptops with the Boot Disc's let me know. I have a lot of people who want then and the better the price the more I can push out.

Thanks to this site and this discussion on fliptops to push me finally to get one and backup my games. Here are some things I have found that second or add on to the last reply:

1) v9 Plays both DVD +R & +RW (as well as -R & -RW). I have 3 different manufacture type of DVD +R and all played without a blip (both DVD and games). This included DVD that used compression for backup.

2) I find Memorex and Verbatim to have the least issues. If you figure you can usually find these on special for $1 or so it doesn't compare to the $49 or $39 average cost per game to backup.

3) I still am on the fence whether I should of got a mod chip (Magic V) or the flip top.

4) I too don't understand the whole idea of creating the ISO (with various progs). I have done a direct copy with Nero 6 everytime (I do also recommend doing a temp copy to the HD first - I do that for everything) at both lower and max speed and haven't had an issue. I see the recommendations from a number of sites and replies here to go through complicated proceedures to backup the CD & DVD games and don't understand why.

Thanks again from this newbie for the help and push to buy a fliptop!

hey huna, doing a temp copy to your hd is the same thing as creating an image, then burning.
