I have followed the manual. It seems like utorrent advises using the port 32459. When I port forward is it ok if I start the port at 32459 and end it at 32469? Do I have to use these settings.

Hi,
I have a 56k broadband connection (i think) and i used azuerus for a long time and i usually got max speeds like 10-15kb/s 20 if im lucky (PATHETIC). But i looked through some other forums and people saying to use BitTornado and set it to dialup speed but upload speed surely had to be low. So i did that and i was gettin good speeds like 30-40 which i was amazed with but didnt give much back to the community with upload speeds of 8kb/s. Then i tried putting mi upload speed on azuerus to 8kb/s and its started shooting up now my min is 25kb/s and max of 60kb/s WHICH IS AMAZING FOR A 56k modem. So basically what im tryin to say is fiddle around with your software and try new ones u never know what youll get

P.S. You should leave it on after ur done the download because After im done the download i leave it on for a long time and seed because i dont upload much when im downloading. Just so know i do give back to the community and im not a bad person :)

yo pooper360... are u saying that.. the lower the upload speed the faster the download will be??
this is kinda like mine.. 2 weeks ago.. my Azureus have 500k of upload speed.. and im downloading an average of 10kbs.. and when i changed it to 40kb.. my maximum DL speed just reached 500kbs, and i was surprised!! maybe... just maybe.. you're right about trying new things or experimenting a bit....

kool i guess i was right about dat then i think(not bragging or anything) but it might work for everyone but it seemed to have worked for me and mikaru but might not for everyone and how the hell did you get 500k whats your connection?

P.S I dont know about any of the scientific and complex things that make download speeds go up when upload speeds go down and remember if after you finish download you must seed till atleast a 1.00 ratio otherwise not good for bittorent community :)

to save time why not just use port trigger which automatically gets ur ip for u and triggers the ports for you.

you cant get an increase like that by changing ur upload ratio. It was most likely one or two people u were downloading from have fast connections and were feeling generous. To prove a point start downlaoading oblivion (the most popular torrent ever which has like 4000 sedders and 10,000 peers and ull be lucky to get over 160kb a second. ;) and the people that say u need to forward ports is a load of crap i have not opened any ports or fuck all and still get nat ok and everything green (using azureus) but yeah u should change to see what bit torrent client u like using i personally use Azureus but it takes a hell of alot of cpu usage

aol + Azureus = very slow

so my advice is to rather upgrade ur broadband line or stay content with what u have got.GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT.

Hi guys. Read a few posts about this port forwarding technique(pft). Just wanna ask u all what's the advantag and disadvantage of using this technique. And how to undo or make the setting to the state before i use this technique if i find it disturbing(makes my pc strange2). I read the post by judoboy(if not wrong), it's also talking something about this pft . . .maybe after knowing the adv&disadv i'll decide wether to try it out or not. Coz in the reply of judoboy's post some1 says it's quite danger to do this. Or maybe what judo says and tech says is different, just tell me how to differ it ok ? Desperately want something done about my lowid thing (don't really know what's that, but seems like it will slow down my connection/download?) Help will be very appreciated.

Note: Is your guide for bittorrent only ?

This is killing me!!!!!

Ive done every thing, changed the windows firewall settings to allow the desired ports, changed the router config to accept the ports I need, and nothing works:(

Ive been using utorrent 1.5 for awhile, and just recently been having problems. My DHT light will not for the love of god turn green, DL speed average 20Kbps.....I used to peak out at 200 Kbps, now at 60Kbps if im lucky. What is the problem. I have included utorrent on the exception list for both Mcafee personnal firewall as well as the windows firewall.

How do I make this work? Also, when I go back to my router to adjust the port settings, the ones I previously adjusted dont show, is this normal??

Thanks in advance to anybody that can help me:)

In order to setup a static IP you will need to get your network's information. Select Start > Run > cmd then type ipconfig/all

Write down your current IP Address, the Subnet, the Default Gateway, and the DNS Servers.

You should be able to input that ionformation at that screen if you select to manually setup your IP.

Hi,
Just my 2 cents.. (5 cents ova here in australia XD)

Um.. I read somewhere that ISP's block some ports so you might not want to forward ones in 65000+ region. I personally use 12345 or 18556 cuz they work fine.

I don't know if this really works, just posting what worked for me.

when port forwarding use the site ... http://www.canyouseeme.org/ its lets you know if the port is open or blocked ...

i.e. :-

Success: I can see your service on xx.xxx.xx.xxx on port (55055)
Your ISP is not blocking port 55055

have fun

hey... im sort of a noob in this port forwarding stuff and i cannot get it to work and its driving me freaking crazy. I am connected directly to a router(Linksys WRT54G). I am connected with a cable that goes from my router to my computer. So does this mean i still need to port forward?? I am using windows firewall, and Kaspersky. I have made the port 59767 a exception for both firewalls and i have also created a static ip and gone to the linksys site to port forward. or at least I have tried.... to port forward at least. I have followed various tutorials/guides with no results. I really want my port to be open. Thanks if anyone can help me.

PS I really hate computers... and if no one answers i am extremely close to destroying my computer... lols....

you dont have to open a port for firewall's ... plus you shouldnt run 2 desktop firewalls at the same time , they can conflict each other and compramise your system , turn off one , Kaspersky and your routers built-in firewall is plenty protection and anti-virus protection is needed too ... to open ports for your Linksys WRT54G look here http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WR...

what program are you opening a port for ?

theolo to open a port in your router

type 192.168.1.1 in your web browser when login appears leave leave username blank and enter admin into the password field ...

Click the Security link near the top of the page.

Remove the checkmark from the Block Anonymous Internet Requests checkbox.

Click the Save Settings button near the bottom of the page.

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.

You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Range Forward.

To Both 192.168.1.

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. eMule requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Port Range Forward menu.

Port Range
Application Start End Protocol IP Address Enable
To Both 192.168.1.

You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers Port Range Forward page. Go ahead and enter those settings now.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!
