Vurbal

I looked for the information that Preator had stickyed and it wasn't there. Perhaps it should be put back up for a while longer.

It's the last section of the basic guide now which is why it isn't a sticky any more.

In the directory you designated as your Working Directory there should be another directory called D2VAVS. In that directory there should be a number of files created during the Prepare phase. There should be one or more D2V files, several AVS and FLG files, and REBUILDER.INF and REBUILDER.ECL. If the video has actually been encoded (and it sounds like it hasn't) there will also be M2V and VAF files. If the M2V files aren't there, try playing one of the AVS files in any media player.

The files did not play. I feel it hasnt been encoded at all. The dvd in size is still around 7GB as I havent compressed it after Decrypting it. I just put it right into Rebuilder. Could this be the problem?

No it sounds like the problem is AviSynth. Did you install AviSynth 2.54 and MPEG2DEC3dg.dll?

Ahhh you are right. I only installed the .exe in the MPEG2DEC zip file. I read now that I have to put the .dll in my rebuilder directory.

Last question before I try this again.
The dvd I am compressing has no extra features on it and Even after getting rid of all the foreign language tracks it still leaves me with the main movie which is 7GB's alone. Does rebuilder compress this or should I do that before running it thourgh rebuilder?

Thanks alot.

Yes they are old remnants of your previous attempts, I'd just go to the folder and erase them manually.

Best wishes

The help is very appreciated guys. Alright so does Rebuilder make three new folders in the source folder? It would be AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS, and D2VAVS? So now I can just burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders?

Yes there's a lot of extras, if you're using Nero burning rom then just open it, select video DVD, then new, and then drag and drop the vidoe_ts folder into the red icon on Nero with the same name. And bur baby burn.

Perfect. How come rebuilder cuts the video size down so much? Theres about one gig of wasted space on this dvd. Either way the quality is fantastic.

Hmmm. I just skimmed through the chapters and after chapter 3 or so I get a problem. This is a capture of it...

http://img34.photobucket.com/albums/v102/timie/PDVD_002.jpg

Do I have to do anything with the D2VAVS folder when burning?

This wasnt a bad burn either as PowerDVD still shows the same results when I play from the IFO file.

Not a thing, you're done with it. You need only concern yourself with the Video_TS folder, it's the one you're going to use to burn with.

@f1drake: I'm not sure what happened with that frame, but it might be possible to fix it by re-encoding just that segment. You need to figure out which AVS file it is by watching them and guessing a little. Once you figure out which one it is you need to make a note of the filename. Open the file called REBUILDER.ECL and look for the filename. There's an example of what you're looking for at the bottom of this post. Notice that you need to start where it says [item] and on the next line is the name of the AVS file (minus the AVS extension). Copy everything until the next [item] line to a new text file and save it as whatever.ECL.

Start CCE manually and select Open and then Project from the file menu. Browse to where you saved whatever.ECL and select it. Click the encode button and let it finish and then open DVD Rebuilder, load that project again, set it to 3 Click Mode, and click the Rebuild button. the entire project will be rebuilt again and you can check it out to see if it's taken care of.

You also might want to skip the rebuild until you know if the problem is fixed. You can just watch the M2V file created by CCE to see if it's still there.

When RB/CCE goes to work on a file, there seems to be three distinct steps. Which one is called the Rebuild, and what are the other 2 called?

The 3 steps are Prepare, Encode, and Rebuild. If you switch to 3 click mode you can see separate buttons for each step.

That's good info. I've been on the 1-click method from your guide ... and trying to master that. It looks like it's time to learn some more.

I've been trying to get to the bottom of a #0003 buffer overflow error that happens at the very beginning of the Rebuild step. This happens 50% of the time with re-authored RemakePro files. I've tested non-authored Remake files, and they don't kick out. Also, the re-authored Remake files go through Shrink and DVD2One perfectly.

My question is threefold. Since the re-authored files go through other transcoders, should I presume they are "good" files. And if so, is there a quicker way to troubleshoot the #0003 error with RB other than to process files for 3 hours only to find out they kick out with the #0003? And, are there any suggestions for troubleshooting this problem?

Unfortunately that's something nobody's been completely able to pin down. Remake doesn't appear to be doing anything wrong and neither does Rebuilder, but sometimes people just get that error.
