Drake, I like to use burn express just below burning rom in the startsmart menu of Nero. Make sure you're clicked on DVD before opening(top right corner) and that you select your DVD burner and not CD burner.

Click on DVD video files. Then open to your location of your rebuilder VIDEO_TS folder in a seperate window. Click and drag it's entire contents to the VIDEO_TS folder in burn express. Ignore AUDIO_TS, and hit next and then burn. Done.

Burning rom works fine too I just think express is a little simpler and easier.

My 3 steps go like this:
prepare-about 15 to 20 minutes
encode-about 3 hours
rebuild-about 30 minutes

Of course times will vary depending on your file length, this is a rough average.

I saw your pic, are you trying again?

Hey Doc, I swear it defies all logic, and everybody says it makes no difference, and I don't even begin to understand it, BUT since I have switched to CCE v 2.67 I have only had one problem with rebuilder and remake and that was MY fault in Remake. This is out of about 10 burns.

I think I saw where you had tried both, did you get the same error in each?

I beleive in my case the remake files caused the error when I didn't split the interleaved cells and when the same movie had the video manager files modified. Like yours, the files would work fine in other pograms.
After splitting the INLV blocks I left the rest alone and it worked OK.
All the other movies I was able to remake normally then use rebuilder and 2.67.
So at this point I have had no movies that I couldn't remake and use rebuilder.

Thanks. I'm having problems even with the old classics ... that don't have any angles or INLV's.

Doc

Have you ever taken the DareDevil test, with 12 angles/interleaves?

I started out with that one ... and was immediately over my head!!! (This wasn't some kind of prank, was it?). I think I only found 4 angles on 1 strip, and 3 on another? So, I'm not sure how you are counting angles, but I have DD right here if you could make any suggestions?

Doc, are you using 2.67 or 2.69 right now?

I started with 2.67, and had the 50% problem. I read a post in another forum where a Remake Pro user had the #0003 error and it went away after he upgraded. So, i did, but it didn't help.

I beleive if you use 2.67 then any remaining problems you have can be worked out by changing how you use DVDremake. Sometimes hiding some blocks can throw a wrench into DVDrebuilder. If you have time then try keeping all, then hide some and so on. Keep track of what kind of movies are causing the problems.

If you have angles then just right click over the titles one at a time and click strip angles if available.

Yeah Doc, I believe i would stick with 2.67 and go slow in remake, increase as you get more proficient.

Some still say(who know a lot more than I do, btw) it makes no difference in CCE, I just know what seems to be working for me.

I have had minimal editing kick out - we're talking just the initial splashes and FBI warning. At present I have the Remake Pro v2.3 "Fugitive" files being encoded. I hope the new Pro version makes a difference.
____
Edit: I'm thinking that if this doesn't work, I'll do a fresh install of just the essential sw, as well as go back to 2.67.

Hi all.
I use DVD Rebuilder with CCE basic, and it does a great job.

I'm not that IT literate, and trying to keep things simple as possible. I rip the movie only to my HD using DvdShrink in re-author mode. I copy it without any compression to keep the movie in it's origianal format. I remove all extras and unwanted audio streams, and then run it through DVD RB with one click mode selected to rebuild.

Do you guys use DVDRemake to edit and remove all unwanted extras and audio, or does DVDRemake have other benefits that I'm not aware of? I do not have DVDRemake, and do not want to pay for something I may not need as DvdShrink allows me to edit and strip any unwanted scenes and extras as do many other free programs.

To date, I've had no problems with DvdShrink / DVD RB method. I get top results with this combination. DvdShrink has many benefits other than copying and compressing. It's the easiest, and one of the most complete copy / re-authoring programs around. Simple to use too.
I take my hat off to you Mr Shrink! I Can't wait for the next update!

DVD RB is complicated, can take forever, but is well worth the extra effort. It's almost perfect!
I haven't tried the 3 step process with DVD RB, but will shortly when I find time.

Thanks in advance guys. This forum and you guys do a great job........

Hey conc, if you do not care about a working menu, then your method is probably just fine for you. I like some extras, and I'm a BIG fan of functional menus. Remake is the best re-authoring prog out there, in my opinion and it gives you a working menu. It also removes the option of even going to where you have removed video.

It will also handle multiple angles which RB/CCE can't, and interleaving(this may be in pro version only, not sure on that) which RB/CCE can't. I have heard that RB will be able to in the future, but don't know when!

I don't like all extras but I like alternate endings, deleted scenes, and outtakes to name a few. I want a menu that can take me to 'em, not just use the >>l function on my remote, besides some are intertaining.

Once you have RB/CCE set up, it is the easiest prog I've seen using the one click method. Time is it's only drawback, but i, like many others, think it is worth the wait.

As for the new Shrink, if you like the 3.1 version, you're gonna LOVE the 3.2 version. Quality on large amts. of compression is vastly improved using a 2 pass deep analysis. It does, however take much longer to do this. Seems you can't get around it, with quality comes wait.

The only exception is Intervideo's DVDCopy 2, but i'm not even going there now. LOL

Good luck!

Hi Bigorange.
Thanks for that. I thought I must have been doing something right as my backups have been superb lately.

RB/CCE is fantastic. I couldn't imagine anything coming close to it. It's easy to use in one button mode once it's set up.

I've taken your advice with Recode 2, and now use it as often as I use shrink for re-author purposes. I've had great success with it on the fly as you suggested the when we spoke a few weeks ago. Many thanks for that mate.

As for Mr Dvd Shrink? He's my hero! I can't wait for the update. I've watched on this forum and others that it will be a winner even though it will take longer. I don't care how long it takes as I set it up and then go to bed while it's doing it's thing.

I doubt if ddlooping is watching or will see this thread, as he asked yesterday if anyone had quality issues with shrink on movies that did not need compressing. I am another that has experienced contrast and colour fading with movies that don't need compressing. I copied Lock stock, and four smoking barrels a few days ago and had the same problem. This shouldn't happen as none of files are altered or compressed at all.

As for Dvdcopy 2? I have it, but dont use it as it's re-author mode is crappy.

Many thanks once again Big O. I thought I was doing something right for a change!

No wonder we don't see you during the day, you're sleeping from having stayed up all night. No one's complaining after all how many threads get 24 hour coverage.

Here's a little thread I started for fun, I figure it might 1 maybe 2 days before it gets axed.

LOL sophocles, not true, you see me til 9:30 or 10:00 AM anyway, which is technically during the day. LOL

Actually it's the testing with shrink. I did 5 different compressions on 4 different apps with a 3 hour movie + extras. That takes a while. If ya notice my vampire hours have only been in the last couple of days.

I'm feeling pretty good this morning, got a lot of sleep yesterday, I think it was yesterday. lol

By the way, you're up early this AM, good morning to ya! top of the day, "m8". ( as our aussie friends like to say.)

Well ... almost all night. I do good to make it to 2 AM here in the PNW ... which is 5 AM in your Johnson City country!!!

My edited "Fugitive" Remake files made it thru RB/CCE. I went to burn with Nero and got the following error message (in frustration, I threw in the towel, and went to bed):

File VTS_02_0.VOB is not referenced and should not be present.
DVD-Video file reallocation failed.

This morning, on a hunch, I removed the VTS_02_0.VOB which had 0 KB. Tried to burn again, and I got the same message with VTS_03_0.VOB, which also had 0 KB. I removed it, and then Nero did a perfect burn.

I'm thinking that because these files had 0 KB, which were the only ones with 0 KB, Nero didn't like it. I'm wondering if it's common for RB-CCE to put 0 KB files in the Video_TS folder? Anyone know about this?

I encoded with rebuilder/cce basic again. I got the same pink screen problem. Ill be damned if I let my money go to waste on this. Hmmm...
Im hoping to find a newer version of basic online or even SP just to test to make sure cce isnt the problem. I reninstalled AviSynth then restarted and put that .dll file in my rebuilder directory. Restarted again after that. Closed all running background programs, got rid of any codecs that were being used and did it again. Same problem.

Have you opened the AVS files to verify that they look alright before being encoded?

Yup, the files I decrypted are fine. They get messed up after encoding.

@Doc409: That sounds similar to a problem that older versions of DVD-RB had. I thought it was fixed though. Deleting the files is all you need to do. DVD-RB is apparently assuming you should have the files and creating empty files for you.

@vurbal. Thanks for the explanation. I'm running 55b. Given my other problems, I'm going to go ahead with a fresh install when I get some time.

drake, have you tried CCE version 2.67, an older version, not newer, it seems to work better.
