Absolutely spot on. I'm certainly not a glory hunter, and whoever does it first has got my vote. Sonix has obviously been working on this rather quietly in the background, but in any case well done man! I'm just off to give him the thumbs up on the thread he's on but I'll be back when I've tested it.

Hmmm! Well I got the tool, set it away and it crashed right near to completion. I'll have another try later. Sonix said the tool was designed for PAL version, so maybe it's crashing because mine's NTSC.

Edit: Problem solved! just had to replace a couple of system files on the PC. Works now. Gonna have to have a play with some of the resulting files I think and see what I can find out.

2nd Edit: Just to update, I've given a copy of GT4 made with sonix' tool to my brother-in-law for testing and I can tell you so far that it works way better than any of the backups I've made to date. The loading times are much faster and there is a lot less disk activity going on. I think the main things Sonix found here are the file tables for the VOL file and also the extra check in the CORE.GT4. You honestly can't fault the guy. The tool itself is just pure simplicity too.

Yeah true, but the only bad thing is that I guess I see is not everyone can program the tools he makes. It would be awesome to see what he actually did,so people that don't have the experience in programming could make a rip of the newer games also.I don't actually faulty Sonix he is the real deal no doubt and all the peeps at PS2ModsParadise.I am not sure if anyone else sees it that way,but there has to be a manual way also.It would be cool to find another way, besides waiting on great programmers to make tools for the games with just the tools we have.I solute Sonix with his great work on the tool, but I still want to find another way because I honestly feel there is another way of messing with it.I'm not a glory hog, just want to see if there is a technique that can be done manually for newer games that come out.

I apologize for my ignorance in advance! I am a complete noob at this. I used my original copy of GT4 I read it with DVD Decrypter, then used the new tool by Sonix. The result is 4 folders and 6 files. I have read for almost a day now, but I can not figure out how to rebuild this so I can burn my backup. Is there a tool to convert these to an iso or other format so I can burn it? I apologize if this has been answered already, but I have been reading stickys all day. I even read a tutorial on the GOW disk, but there are several differences in the backup methods. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou !

You need to have the following files in your GT4 folder.
1. SYSTEM.CNF (.CNF extension might not show)
2. SCUS_973.28
3. CORE.GT4
4. IOPRP300.IMG
5. IRX (Folder)
6. NET (Folder)
7. EPSON (Folder)
5. GT4.VOL
6. GT4L1.VOL
After running sonix' tool, you'll have a GT4L1.VOL_OLD file as well, which you don't need.

You need CDVDGEN and IML2ISO available from http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html (Also On my site at http://simonjc.dyndns.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 (Near the bottom somewhere, look for "rkit.zip")).

Open CDVDGEN Select "New Project" and then "DVD Master Disk" (The Middle one). You'll now see three buttons at the top of the window, "Volume", "Directory" and "Layout". Click on the "Volume" button. Fill in the "Disk Name" Field with "SCUS" and "97328", and change the "License Area" to "America" (For PAL version, it's "SCES" and "51719" and the area is "Europe"). Also change the "Volume" field to "GRANTURISMO4". You don't need to fill in any of the other fields (Well I didn't anyway). Next click on the "Directory" button. Using your gt4 folder drag the files IN THE ORDER ABOVE from the folder in to the main window of CDVDGEN. When you've done that, click on "File" and "Export IML File". Save the file in your GT4 folder as GT4.IML and close CDVDGEN (You don't need to save anything else). That's the hard part done.

Open IML2ISO and browse to the IML file you just made and click "Start". Then put the kettle on, because it does take a few minutes to compile. Once it's finished you can close IML2ISO.

That's it! just burn the GT4.ISO with your fave burning proggy (I still prefer DVD Decrypter).

I hope that's easy enough for everybody to grasp.

Oh well! I got a 100% backed up version on DVD-5 that works with both modchip and Swap Magic. Big thanx to sonix and to Ps2asker for the rip tool and guides respectively.

That's it! Job done. Bye all till next time and thanx for sticking around!!

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Hiya, Both Arcade and GT mode work for me on DVD-5. There are some wired things. On the original DVD-9 retail cop does the cursor leave trail marks??? and same for all the dialogue?? Does it leave trails(leaves the outline in text). All I did was get an Image of 3.319, from a mate who is an expert at this. It works fine and there is no freezing, although the loading screen needs a que(pressing X or O) and then it loads to main menu. it also creates data and saves flawlessly. Works like a charm. BTW the mate who did it for me is Russian and I will ask him to upload it if anyone wants(his english is good but finds it difficult). But I tried both modes out and they work and theres like 1 gb of room left on disk.

blow me off will'ya???
