OK just a question how do you plan on putting the vids back into the image file $$$$.You have to use a Hex editing program bro,so CubeMedia Player is kinda ruled out.That is how I found the locations of the vids to begin with.So what I plan on doing is using DvdDecrypter and making my image first.Then actually removing the movie files from the image.After this is done,I plan on making the image file for HDD using Toolboy's HDD tutorial.CubeMedia can extract vids,but it can't inject vids back into the image.

An update to the progress I made so far,simpsim1 you might like this bro.I rebuilded using the HDD tutorial supplied by Toolboy and then with that image found all the movie files,so now we can rip it.Here are the Hex locations:

Nope it still freezes,good gracious even applying the patches from the HDD fix didn't work.I have a feeling Swap Magic isn't capable of booting even a rip of GT4,without decrypting the CORE.GT4 for extracting rebuilding.I guess we have to wait until someone figures that out or has a better plan.

Pretty much what I got before L-Burna, except I used RipPSS to extract the movies. Incidently if you disable the intro movie and save the game on a working copy, your coaster should work in GT mode (I know mine did) but it will freeze if you try to exit GT mode.

I'm pretty much as certain as you at this point, that the CORE.GT4 holds the key. Of course it could just be a TOC thing, but it still means decrypting the bloody file. I'm still looking at other possibilities however and my geeky friend is now on the case too, so I'll let you know if he turns anything up.

Yeah I am pretty close to breaking down and getting a modchip,but ripping is getting to the point where it is a nusance now.I had a feeling a save file was needed,so this isn't really a problem.I also get the same thing though like you.It freezes and then irritates the hell out of yah.I was messing with IDA pro with the CORE.GT4 file,but I don't know how to use IDA pro that well with creating custom function calls and stuff like that.

@Simpsim1 & L-burna,

First of all, I just want to say that you guys are doing great with this progress of GT4 on a fully backed up DVD5 disc. Keep up the good works guys, and don't give up yet.

Anyways, I have one simple question here. Can any of you provide me with a "fully functional" WinHex 12.2.5.0 version or any lower 12.2.X.X fully working version via my PM box? I think I was messing around with WinHex like 2 hrs for a few days and was able to encode or compress the original GT4.ISO (orignal 4.9GB before into 4.38GB after)<---- "NOTE: I DIDN'T SPLIT IT", but WinHex won't let me back up because it is an evaluation version only. Additionally, DVD Decrypter won't let me back up due to the ".whx" extension after the GT4.ISO. On the other hand, if you two [guys] had already tried this, then please disregard. However, I was just wondering if anybody, anyone, someone out there can just provide me with a fully functional on a zip. file of WinHex version, then I would be greatly appreciated. I'll try something new and be back to see what's the result.

GT4 is not easy... it required a lot of knowledge and brains that's all I can say.

Alkohol, you don't really need the full version as long as you have plenty of disk space and you have Default Edit mode selected in the options. Winhex will save the results to a new file, whatever size it is. Of course there are cracks out there. Look for them because I can't post any links for this sort of thing. Otherwise, consider paying for it.

@L-Burna. Is that the sort of proggy that the likes of toolboy would have used for developing his patches?

Nah not really IDA Pro is a program Darth,Neness,and Sonix are using to decrypt the CORE.GT4.Sonix had luck already on God of War,so this would be a good program to look into.

It's not enough to get the image down in size I think,all the audio files equal up to only like 3MB in size or so.It wouldn't be enough to cut the size down for Swap Magic.The Swap Magic TOC is 4.35Gig in size,so we have to keep the size to this limit or it won't boot.

L-Burna, SM boots GT4 on the DVD-5 version we already have (88%) and this fills the disk. I've not come across the TOC thing yet with SM so I couldn't possibly comment on filesizes. I'm assuming though, that being untouched other than having the end of the disk truncated doesn't qualify it as a "Rip".

I'm actually using a combination of both modchip and swap disk for testing purposes because of the following problems. Firstly, my chip is an old Magic III chip which will not boot DVD+Rs at all (Dual layer was not an option for me). So Swap magic comes in handy for testing +R solutions. Secondly, I'm looking for a DVD-5 solution that will work with any backup capable PS2.

My friend is examining the possibility of altering or adding a header to the GT4L1.VOL file to see if he can get a look at the contents of it. He's far more experienced at this sort of thing than me so hopefully he can turn something up.

Well even if it is at 88% right,check it out alright it still is lower than the 4.35Gig limit.It is probably 4.312Gig or close to it from the actual file size.The method you are describing doesn't actually mean a rip,but it would kinda be put in a category that is close to rips.The reason I say this is because it isn't the full game,you have a good portion of the game on disc but still it isn't the full game.A game I consider not a rip would be a straight 1:1 copy of it,without doing any special method to back it up.

@L-Burna,

I strongly deem that Swap Magic 3.6 Plus can boot a full 4.7Gb DVD5 disc. I'm not sure what's a good way to say or start, but evidently my full 88% completed of GT4 on a FUJI DVD+R DVD5 has the following information. As a matter of fact, it did backed up everything to the very last possible section/edge of the blank disc as far as the capacity can hold. Below is a copy and evaluation of my GT4 back up on a FUJI 8X DVD+R disc. Take a look and you'll notice the sizes.

@Alkohol it's not possible,because the original image is 4.9Gig in size.It can't be a full image of GT4,and you should know that.So even if it reads all the sectors it still can't burn all the sectors,because of the size issue.Look at it again,you notice how it stops at 88% right.This issue is caused by size restriction,and the only way to solve this issue is by extracting the files by decrypting the CORE.GT4 file like the God of War method to decrease the size of the .VOL files.In fact I am thinking of going back and finding all the types of files that where in God of War to see if I can maybe use that information for GT4.

@L-Burna. When you say this is not possible what exactly did you mean? I say this because the version that Alkohol is talking about is the closest we have to a DVD-5 so far and boots with no problem using both SM and modchip (Tried and tested by many people including myself). The data when burned to disk is 4.7Gb as Alkohol states. I managed the same thing myself by truncating the end of the ISO image using HJSplit to 4460Mb, so this in itself is larger than SM's limit. So as I said before, if SM doesn't boot rips above 4.35Gb, then gt4 in this instance is obviously not classed as a rip.

Wait a second...

You can't play gt4, because the size of it is much bigger than the SM dvd?or because there's some limitation?

Because i was thinkin', as i said i use Cogswap loader to boot backup games, and in it you need to put a high toc DVd like GTA Vice City or San Andreas...What i was thinkin' here is: Would a Dual Layer work?

Imagine.For example, MGS2: Substance is dual layer, but i don't know if it is bigger than GT4.Let's suppose it is.I could put the MGS2 original dvd to swap for a full copy of a GT4 copy.Now the question is if that would work...

@L-Burna,

I'm not quite sure to what you mean "it's not possible" here. Yes, I do know that the Original GT4 is 4.9GB, but I'm trying to say that Swap Magic 3.6 Plus can boot any backed up that's over 4.31GB or 4.35GB as you've stated earlier that's all. I know that the backed up of GT4 may be either less or more than 4.3GB, however, it does boot up. The same thing goes to "MIDNIGHT CLUB 3" as well even though it's smaller than GT4.

Look this is what I am saying,you all are stating it can boot over this limit and I know this ok.A DVD-5 disc is really only capable of holding around 4.37 or a little more in capacity till it overburns.When a disc overburns it isn't wise to use this,as there is a chance it will screw up when you read over this limit.Swap Magic can boot over it's limit,but once again if you are going over this limit there is a chance it will eventually freeze after this portion.When I said "this is not possible",just like I said you can't burn all the sectors of the original GT4 image because of size restriction.Alkohol mentioned that all the sectors where present,they actually stop at a certain point.As I mentioned it is wise to keep the image size to the Swap Magic limit,because if you go over this limit with rips.There is a chance it will freeze later on reading the disc.

@L-Burna I think I get it now. Basically the SM will boot anything over that size restriction, but there's a chance it might freeze when it encounters anything which goes beyond that size restriction yeah? I'm just trying to understand the workings of Swap Magic a little more that's all.
