I use to really enjoy the Dr Chips school of learning when some of the know-it-alls would try to bump heads with him. I remember one guy saying he was going to shut down Dr Chips' PC. I think in 15 minutes Dr Chips had his name, IP address, home address, etc. That guy didn't know what to say so he started to apologize to Dr Chips. I enjoyed every part of that thread. Just sat back reading and laughed at what was going on.

Hey just thought I'd pop in. I doubt many of you remember me but I joined a couple years ago. I was regular for a while, but then the people I liked started to leave and newbies took over. I can't handle stupidity, so I lurked more than ever. I still do, but I couldn't help coming across this thread and being pleased at how many of the old, knowledable members were here.

@ Jerry and Flip - Remember that guy? He was spooked badly, all full of piss & vinegar he was, callin' DrChips out and daring him to prove knowledge. DrChips piggy-backed somehow onto his notification that 'this thread has been updated' and, once he had the guy's IP address and internet supplier, there was no stopping him :^) LoL
That was NOT me by the way (for the record).
Anyone else remember Mick69? Among other things he was a VCD (MPEG1) expert.
And everybody, say hello to Celtic_d who toils away in the DivX/XviD forum, and never comes in here. He's a good guy, and very knowledgeable too. I bet he remembers all old-timers. I'm gonna check him out now,

I'm getting kinda burnt out myself..... I come and go and sometimes I feel like helping out and then again sometimes I just hit reply and then ESC. I don't know how you guys do it all the time!? I like helping others then I get the people who just don't like what they hear as a reply. I don't know everything and never claim to but I try to give accurate answers when I can. I don't reply to just any question to see myslef in writing! And I don't think I'll make it to Addict if I'm already burnt out now! But I do love AfterDawn!

@Ihoe, You just have to learn to roll with the punches. There has been several times I almost closed my account here but decided to just stay in the background for a while and not post. After a few weeks off I find myself back on here trying to be of some help. I don't post as much as before but still check in a few times per day to see whats going on. If you feel burned out just take a back seat for a while and let the other members do the driving. Sometimes a rest is all it takes. I belong to a few other forums but still think of AD as home base.
@OGS, Thats the guy alright. He was mouthing off about how good a hacker he was but by the end of the conversation I almost felt sorry for him.(ALMOST) LOL.

Well I guess I better check in here although the Safety Valve is something I try to avoid.
It truly is good to see all of you here.
Pete, Jerry and me... Known in the day as the Three Amigos. We were all Junior Members at the time.
Rotary.. Thanks again for helping me back then.
I try not to get into the AD suck zone to often. I remember being here for hours on end every day of the week.
Now I try and limit it to two or three times a week. That seems like enough time to help out a few people. Not so much that I can't mow my lawn or actually watch a movie or two. Go for a ride. Have a life.
I spun off what I learned here into my own website and from learning how to build my website, I've built a few more and have actually made some money from them.
I'll be around as long as it feels good to come here and hopefully some of the "old timers" will stick around.
It still feels good!

I've been messing around with PhpNuke and phpBB. Every time I go to your site it motivates me. I need to do a big php conversion but I'll have to change my hosting package at some point. No php support with the one I have.
I've got Burning Bits open on my second screen and it's cool to see pete has been busy!

unfortunately as at 3am this morning i'm not on that site anymore.Its been 18 months of a hard slog and now its time for me to try something else.I went from a site with no rules to one with maybe to many.We designed a nice site for people who have multimedia issues and there are a lot of talented mods who will do fine with out me.Modding was good and being an admin really opens your eyes.I wish them all well and hope the site continues

thats one thing i do not like to see dirty pix on a fine site as afterdawn..
this is what i live by on aftredawn or the dvdxcopy site.
no nudes male or female can be posted all private parts must be covered..no swear words may be posted.no dirty jokes or dirty pixs of any kind this includes no dirty joke pixs..may be posted here at the shout box or forum.
note:remember children can view the shout box...of each member..so be carefull of the pixs ye posts

ye can start with me,as dvdnextcopy has a new site..so that means the dvdxcopy site will not get all the help posts..it will all be directed to there new site.and dvdxcopy site will die a very very slow death.if not dead already.they did offer me a mod job,i do not feel its my cup of tea..

Hey T, nice to see you around. i have posted in the mod lounge about the current situation regarding the forum. Action WILL be taken, but i can not say what that action will be.
To anyone who reads this, let everyone know that i am on a downright zero tolerance on anything that violates the rules in any way. I welcome PM regarding ANYTHING that needs addressed. Do not PM me saying joe-blow is posting somewhere and trying to increase his post count, thats not up to you to decide and 99 times out of 100 the people like that get banned soon enough anyway. I mean things that just shouldn't be here, the obvious stuff. I cannot, and will not speak for the other mods, but i'm sure i got plenty of backing on this.
Senior members and addicts, and the other quality members that have been around a while but dont post enough to be in the higher ranks, we need your help. If aD has ever given you info you needed, helped you solve something, or ever been a place that you've enjoyed in any way, NOW is the time to give something back to this site. PM us, report the post, remind people of the rules, ask them to edit their post nicely, but please do not take matters into your own hands and start flaming someone. Trust me, i know how it feels to be here and see some idiot doing something completely stupid. You take it personal, so you lash out at the offender, we DO understand that. The problem comes from others seeing it and judging this site by your actions. we are NOT a site of assholes who rip on anyone for the slightest little thing. We are a place that welcomes anyone with a thirst for knowledge, and aside from the spammers, thats why one by one we all ventured here in the first place. I know most of the upper ranks do help out and do well tolerating the noobs, but there's always room for improvement. If you're perfect, hey sorry to bug you. But for the normal folks out there, there's always a little more we can do to help out. After things calm down, hey go back to slacking, we'll take it from there.
we have lost some very valuable members of aD lately, and sooner or later a question or problem WILL come up where those members will be missed even more, but unfortunately it will be too late. We will ALWAYS have jerks coming around, we will ALWAYS have spammers and people putting email addy's in their posts, but we do not always have to act like a bunch of vigilante's when it does. Thats my job. Let the mods do what we do, we dont mind being known as the bad guys, but we DONT want the members viewed that way. I have had way too many people whining in my PM box that "joe-user is picking on me, please make him stop." So i go have a look and if the guy that PM'd me would have kept his mouth shut and minded his own business, then nothing would have happen at all! And NO that is not about anything or anyone specific, it happens alot.
The more I type, the more pissed off I get about this whole situation. and now i just learned there's other crap going on I need to deal with. I've been awake for 36 hours people, i dont need this crap. this may be continued, maybe not. hopefully i've come across the way I intended.

well, I haven't posted in a while here....
seems many of us moved on to other projects.
I know bigorange, sophocles,Doc409, and brobear have their own forum going. Vurbal was a part of that, but don't think he participates much nowadays. I think they're recruiting members.... ;) I've seen michigan there as well.
Another excellent member I learned so much from but has been on an AD hiatus is ddlooping. Excellent fellow.......
I'm working on another board with Pete and a few others from here.
And frank... I wouldn't get too excited about phpbb just yet. There have been a series of sucurity issues in the last few updates and the push from version 2.X to 3.0 may have just gone south as the lead developer has quit from what I've read.......
