@Cecy:

I tried looking around and it seems that you can burn the first layer only of your DL Image in Nero. Try putting a SL DVD+R in your drive and burning your DL image.

This is ofcourse to test your theory of needing to boot w/ a SL image before you can play the DL one properly.

Also guys, have faith in the scene. The JAP game is already been ripped on DL, so there are ways. My guess is we will see a DL ISO of SSBB-USA before the end of this week.

Ok I have a serious issue.
I got SSBB today and put it in my wii same problem is not able to read the disc. So I decided to change my wiikey settings back to default (region free and disc speed back to 6x). Still couldn't run the game, ended up updating my firmware to 3.2.

Now this is where the serious problem occurs, none of my config discs work anymore. My wii doesn't load my 1.3 config, 1.9b recovery, 1.9g update disc...none of them work. Also, when I put my backed up JAP copy of SSBB into the wii it also no longer works.

The thing is that all my other back ups work, and I have a real copy of galaxy that also reads no problem, I can still get into all my wii settings, but I can't get my config discs to work anymore so I can't configure my wii to even play SSBB(J) anymore.

Any ideas/helps would be greatly appreciated.

Cecy, is it possible for you to just do a single layer rip, burn it, and try the switch method. I heard that worked for people with NTSC-(J) Wii's when the JAP version came out. If that works it could be a temporary solution for us that have the game until a working DL version is created.

This has probably been asked but...

I have a Wiikey and a North American Wii and about to buy SSBB US.
Is it safe for me to update to 3.2... and then pop in SSBB into the Wii?

Will it wreck my Wiikey/Wii?

judging from what ive read/learnt here... it should be ok

I dont think theres any chance of brick as long as you stay within your region. NTSC + NTSC = fine

even if you update it through the NTSC SSBB, however, you might want to update online first just as a precaution... probably best to always keep it updated

I've successfully gotten the game to work.
Specs:
NTSC-U wii
Wiikey with the 1.9g firmware
NTSC-U retail copy of SSBB

Tried the retail copy of the game I purchased at midnight last night, and got the disk read error. So I did just like Cecy did....
I used friidump040-w32 (took about 10 hrs id say, not exactly sure I let it run while I slept)
Resulting in the 7.92 GB img file. I then burned that using ImgBurn v2.3.2.0 at 2.4x onto a Windata DVD+R dual layer disk. I then tried putting in my copy, and that didnt read at all. It didnt have the disk read error like the retail, just plain old didnt read. I could hear the drive trying to, but the game channel never changed. So I decided to try running the 3.2 wii firmware update via wifi. I ran that (with the copy left in my wii), it reset the console after completion and when the wii booted back up, the game channel said "sysetem upday" or somthing to that effect (sorry I forgot what exactly it said lol) So I click the channel, and it says that "in order to play this game I would need to update my system". I already had, so I hit ok, it started checking the system, a progress bar moved across the screen and it finished. The screen went black and it returned to the wii channel screen, it read the disk and then the SSBB logo was now in the game channel and I clicked it and it plays like a champ. 100% perfect. After playing for a bit, I took out the copy, shut the whole system down and started it back up, and put in the retail. It now wont load at all.
Take this for what its worth, all I know is that this worked for me 100% and im happy, so hopefully others can follow my steps and get theirs working as well.
I will have a second test to this in the next day or so, as one of my friends also has a wii with a wiikey, and hes going to be bringing me a dual layer disk (I ran out) and im gonna make him a copy and we'll see if the same process works on his wii as well.

Nicely done. Now the question is why hasn't it been uploaded yet...

So, you have to use a ripped version on a dual layered DVD to make it work... if so.... thats dumb.

FF13 - Im looking into places to upload it as we speak ;) Any suggestions?

Landoncz - I agree...very stupid, but such things are to be expected when you are running wiikey/any modchip. Eventually there is bound to be problems. You are altering the system after all ;)

@emcubed

The easiest is probably RapidShare or MegaUpload, but it wouldn't help me since I don't have an account there. Uploading to the newsgroups would be awesome, but I'm not sure how to upload (just know how to download).

Oh well, if worse comes to worse, my friend has one of the special LG drives and I can probably get him to friidump my copy later today.

I came across this on craigslist, thought it was interesting, not sure what he meant. He is selling a Wii, which he claims is SSBB compatible, and wont give disc read error, sounds like he runs a store

The Wii will allow you to play Super Smash Brothers!!!!
- already update the firmware with the 15% technique
- able to load the Dual Layer disc without stuck at the introduction video or "disc read error"

what the heck is the 15% technique?

Isohunt is my personal favorite, but Mininova or Piratebay would work too. Whatever you do, please do it soon!

So I have burnt the game. I performed the system update online through the settings. Loaded the disk. It started to do the update (10 sec), then showed SSBB brawl logo in the game box in the upper left corner. Clicked on it to start the game. I got a black screen that said loading... Then it asked to make a save file. I said yes.. Then I got nothing but a white screen...
Used Verbatim dvd+r DL burnt at 1x. (Don't have -r)
Users that used Jap version got white screen as well. The fix was setting the layer break...

Open IMGBURN, select to write iso to DVD, select DVD9, click in TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960.

You might want to try this and see if it works with the US version.

Having the same problem, only diference I am in Central America, my Wii is of the first ones and has a WiiKey inside, updated to 1.9g the Wii is 3.1U i guess, so my question I have just bought the brawl, wasted $70 here, dont have a DUAL LAYER that can read it only single layer, so now what should I do update the Wii to 3.2 and then try the retail original game? Or should I best do something to the wiikey like remove it or something? Help I dont have access to DL... and my download speed shucks!

PS3 HD 60GB: 1.33 > 1.90 > 2.01 > 2.17 - NO OS
Nintendo DS [+[__]%]: EZ Flash 5 Plus + 1GB MicroSD + EZFlash 3in1

It lets NTSC American Wii's play NTSC JAP SSBB, because an update needs to occur in order to play, but only 15% of that update is needed to let us play.

All of this relates to the JAP version of the game and won't fix any problems with the US version. In order to play the JAP version you either had to update your wii (thus giving you dual channels) or use the 15% trick (update to 15% and then cut the power). This wouldn't give you dual channels.

Like I said, none of it is really important since it doesn't relate to the US version.

Wow, this sounds really good, but has anyone else tried this method since I am kinda scared because (Cecy) said that when she updated to 3.2, her SSBB(J) and config discs wouldn't read.

I'm dumping my copy right now, the Wii would not read it, updated via Internet to 3.2U and it still wouldn't read it. I hope the ETA on friidump isn't correct, otherwise I got a solid 20 hours before I find out if this works.

I put Brawl(retail) into my Wiikey Wii and it is making very odd sounds. Like loud sounds. Then it says an error has occured, please restart or something.

If I rip and burn it like that person said, will it still work? Or is the whole game screwed?

@wiigame

I don't think Cecy was the one having trouble with the config disks not working, that was someone else. Cecy just said that he was able to get to creating a new game save file and then it white screened, which means that it did read the disk, so this method seems to be working.
