the way i see it and millions of others feel the same is, p2p is free and legal.
if artists had as much money as the average teenager they would be doing the same (downloading music), so as far as im concerned sod what piledriver thinks. if p2p users were thiefs we wud all be in prison.

P2P in itself is perfictly legit and legal but you have to realize that there are people out there that use it for shadier purposes; this is what I imagine Piledrive was so friggen angry about. His mistake was that he assumeed that everybody is like that.

There are people who just download the album, listen to it and then if they like it, go out and buy it. Then again there are ppl who just download and "collect". It's just a case of "a bunch of bad apples ruining the bunch"

yes pourn, that was an excellent post, very well said. but you failed to say that piledrive (lars) is still an ass for trying to classify all p2p users as theives. so c'mon lars, what about garage days? remember that one, that said clearly on the cover "do not pay more than $5.98 for this cd." What happened to you? you used to be cool and make the music for the fans, not your ferrari collection. when did it all change? maybe it was when cliff died and your music started sucking real bad and you knew you had to start counting pennies. news flash piledrive(lars), make some good music and people will buy it!!! until then, i will leech it and test drive it before i waste my money, so come and sue me, thats D.a.r.t.h.n.i.p, make sure you spell it right on the court order.

Any 'artist' (lol) that would post that is probably some 40 odd year old wanabe Clapton type guitar freak who wishes he had A. Lots of $$, B. Lots of chicks and C. A successful tune that people would even WANT to share over P2P.

The REAL artists were the creators of Napster and it's peers.

Darth, it aint lars, 1 metallica are on tour, 2. metallica had a lot more than 3 cd's and 3 at least Lars is open about who he is, he doesnt hide who he is, and piledrive before you say, oh Dela who are you then, have a look around the forum i have spelled my real name many times, even where i live man!
Quote:
i am done with you cand ass bitches. you still are thieves so face it.... good bye
who u calling candy ass bitches when you are the one who thinks you are bigger than anybody here or bigger than anybody we know. Face facts ass, you are a bitch. A scared little bitch who is afraid that if you say who you are, next week, 60 million downloaders in America will know what you think about them and you will never sell anything again! And now look, more support has just built up for p2p, the pressure is on the RIAA, the guys who are paying you to talk shit! And you said you have been playing for 22 years, man by the way you talk you sound like a 12 year old who loves the recording industry. And what do you know about p2p anyway??
Quote:
Kazaa, Napster and P2P suck and so do the people that use it!!!!!
News flash dickhead, Napster has been gone for quite a while now and kazaa sucks. So your product would be getting more "ripped off" probably on IRC or newsgroups! So wait until you know how these things work before you turn into the RIAA and blame life's every little tragedy on it!

You wish those who download mp3 to keep admit they steal? I wish the artists would admit that every customer accross the world is being robbed by cd prices and the only thing they really care about is how big their damn "crib" is while some kids has to literally save his money to buy an album with 3 good tracks and 9 pieces of shit! Things changed from when u were my age and you all had no choice but to go with it, now u have to go with it and accept the fact that people are robbing you back man, taking from your pocket what your great RIAA (or IFPI, dont think i forgot about u guys) has taken for so long. So take your "music career" and shove it up your ass because pretty soon people will realise what u are man, another thief! Ciao!

LOL, ok so i like had some extra free time so i went and read most of the 8 pages of this shit and man now both my head and eyes a killing.

1st. The RIAA can just suck my .... Scan my comp when i don't even share music ? WTF ?

2nd. As for music, download it, listen to it, Buy it.

3rd. The fun part, Software. I am a 3rd year software programmer, and I can tell you now that i download lots of coding software images, burn them i give 50 copies of it to my friends and work mates. Then laugh in microsoft's face when they tell me that i have to pay them $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to learn their new code. MICROBOYS, GO AND F**K YOURSELFS. You think i have or would pay such bullshit amounts of money? For a program that's just like the last but with a new GUI ???

That's what i love about P2P programs, they help the new boys like myself play at the same level as the big cunts like microsoft.

Tell me what's fair about todays world? Nothing! The rich get richer and the poorer can get f**ked..? Geez, sounds REALLY fair. Well thanks to p2p i can learn the new code and the mother f**kers won't get a damn cent from me.

Just for the record, i have programmed 20 - 30 programs by now for bussinesses and friends and how much have i made ? if it were microsoft well 'bils' by now .... but me ?? at this very min my account sits on an amazing 0 dollars !!!!!

So tell me who's the criminals us p2p uses who fight for our education\rights, or the big boys who want so much $$$$ for something that's really a piece for bullshit anyway.

Now that i think about it music isn't any different or better. WTF is $20 for a cd with 4 tracks which 3 tracks a shit anyway??? That also sounds REALLY fair!!! Plz Get Out Of My Face.

As long as P2P is around hopefully one day WE will be THE ONES f**cking THE BIG BOYS around, cuz there asking for it and they will they a going to get it, all of them.

BTW, Don't mind my spelling, it's late and i need a coffee.... LOL :)

Ok so I read Piledrive's post and I have to disagree one hundred percent. I am a musician and I welcome people downloading my songs http://www.BillLonero.com Word of mouth is 100 percent better then anything you could ever get any other way.
If you are only in it for the money then you are in the wrong business. Most musicians never see a dime for anything that they write or record. That's just the honest truth. Maybe you are a famous musician and that is why you are hiding behind your computer. I don't know. But either way it's your fans that are getting hurt here not the record company. They make money off you no matter what. But being a musician of 22 years you should know this.
On my site I offer free downloads of some of my songs. If I see them on Kazaa or Gnutella or Napster, GREAT! The more people that download them the better. Music is a gift and I am just returning the favor.

He's clearly just some wannabe who /thinks/ we should give a fuck about the music industry.

My final point on it is this: Real musicians love coverage of any kind, that's why they play a Saturday night in a bar/pub for £200 divided by 5. (Do the math) And 'successful' musicians, ie/ multi millionairs et al, well, they can go fuck themselves and thier executives for asking stupid prices for CD's that we know cost (materially) 25p to make (artistic endevour not withstanding, of course)

hell yes we buy music cd's, but now we can test drive them to see if we are wasting our money on 1 single and 12 filler crappy songs. I buy alot more cd's now than i ever did, just because i can see listen to what else is on them by downloading them. but you can't download the nice shiny covers, with all the liner notes and other cover art. sure you can get covers online, but it just aint the same. plus if you dont buy them, how long till cd's are no longer made and we all got little music robots to give us pre-programmed crap for music. sorry but i buy cd's to support the artists that made them, the guys who work at the record label, the guy that ships the stuff, the truck drivers that deliver it, even the kid at walmart that puts it on the shelf. not buying music hurts alot more than just the greedy ass record company.

Well said Darthnip. I'm glad there are people out there that still buy cd's. You are right about the 1 single and 12 crappy songs. Alot of cds are like that nowadays. I'll tell you why it is more prominent now more then ever.
Bare with me on this;

The internet has provided everyone with anything they want now. If you are a college student and need answers you go to the internet, if you want to buy something you go on the internet. If you want to see a preview of a new movie you go on the internet. With that comes the record industry that is out to make a quick buck. Now "artists", and I use that word lightly record using ProTools. They make a bunch of mediocre performances, splice them together and put out a cd. With ProTools you can make an album in half the time that you would using the old analog reel to reels. But one thing you lose with digital is the warmth and the "feel". Nowadays a mediocre performance spliced together is more important to the record industry then taking the time and doing it right because it costs less in the long run and their overhead in terms of analog tape, studio time and paying for the engineer and producer has been cut down.

Now the record industry wants to capitalize on the "urgency" factor that is so prominent with today's music buying public. The worst part is that the cd's don't cost as much to record, mix and master like they used to but the price of a cd is still ridiculous. With the advent of DAW recording (Digital Audio Workstation), recording studios have cut down their costs of recording because they don't need to purchase or lease as much gear and they have passed that down to the record companies but the record companies don't pass that down to the consumers.

In my opinion the only chance an indie musician has is getting their music out to the world via the internet. But that does not mean you have to sacrifice your integrity as a musician. I recorded my new cd "Slather" with absolutely no computers involved whatsoever. It has taken me a little longer and there are some minor imperfections on the cd but that's ok. I wanted that "live" feel like the old Zeppelin records or AC/DC albums. I recorded it with Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani bassist) and Gigi Gonaway (Mariah Carey drummer). I'm not saying this to impress you but to impress upon you that music can still be made the old fashioned way....by musicians and not computers.

There I said what I wanted and if my music is downloaded please share it if you like it. If you hate it well.....then delete it :)

Thanks Bill for that informative post. It's great to hear from a true artist that know music sharing is beneficial for everyone (unlike that jerk piledrive, prolly the guitarist from kajagoogoo or something)
