this guide was very helpful for a friend of mine and i... i have a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 1GB USB Flash drive. And it worked out very well, didnt have any problems wat so ever. popped it into computer and formated to fat32 and then put maxdrive on it and AR read it and was able to do saves. xbox read it as well... seems to be easier to use when you dont have money and all you have is a usb pen a usb cord and an old controller for xbox. did some modding with controller and and usb female side cord and was able to use usb pen without a problem... a friend and i where glad to find this on google. made softmodding alot more easier. we still have a lil ways to go with xbox but once we get the game we are gonna use for it we will be done. thanx again for the guide tho.... was successful on wat we needed it for. everything worked just as planned and did everything exactly like it said to do.
Its now or never. But now is better.

Sounds like my story:)!
By the way, I am not sure how have you attached the USB female to the controller, but you don't have to throw away that controller. I made mine so it is a 2-in-1 thinggie, it can be used as an USB slot and a controller at the same time. I didn't cut the cord all the way, just stripped it and attached the USB female.

I'm sorry but that's not true. For the most part it may be. But I just bought a 2gb Lexar secure usb drive down at target for $10, and it worked (I got lucky).
format it to FAT32, before inserting it in to the xbox. And use the Action Replay version 1.05 (built may 30 2003). both the xbox and my computer see it.
:::note. the xbox mem screen flashes 2 times before recognizing it.
I used it on both mine and my brothers xbox. WOOOT!
Thanks for the help guys.

Yes but you need the action replay version 1.40 which is the latest version from codejunkies in order to download saves through codejunkies.
so what good does 1.05 serve you

I really don't want to be bothered to read through 8 pages of this thread, but why did you bring up "version 1.05"? Where does it say that you should only use that at all?
You obviously made a statement with no grounds, no facts to back it up, so now you're looking for a a way out. Just admit you were wrong for crying out loud! Or say no more...

1 gig drives do work in the action replay software but the saves won't function in the xbox and the same for 2 gig sticks when used it lists as a unknown save in a bunch of bogus folders and doesn't work.
Here is what This tutorial mod says on the first page:
So why would you bring up some old version, why would anyone use some version 1.05, when the tutorial clearly says v. 1.40? THIS tutorial, the way is written on the first page, does work with 1GB and 2GB USB sticks.End of story. Stop spreading false information.

i took a usb cord that had a male and female on it and stripped the male side and hooked it up to the port that was for the controller to xbox. we had a hell of a time at first but then get it to work. figured out that wires dont touch period....lol. we got it working like nothing tho near the end but where up til 3am messing with it. after that we waited til the next day and finished getting everything we needed.... we think it is goin to be a bumpy ride not knowing wats going to happen for sure but once everything is done and working just rite on the softmodding then it will be worth it.lol
Its now or never. But now is better.

LOL!
Once everything is done, you'll look back and say "jeez, that's a piece of cake"! I only use the XBOX to play all my AVI, RMVB, Mpeg...movies using XBMC . Never touched a box before, so I was a bit apprehensive too. Now, it looks like child's play!

yeah thats true. well i heard about the xbox media center dashboard so much that i just thought to myself -hmmm wonder if wat they say would be worth a shot?- and then i called up a friend and he has been chillaxing with me here helping me work on it. it seems real easy the only thing that he knows more about is the ftping since he has done it once or twice for other pple so i wasnt to sure about doing that myself.... but him and i are looking at it now as a piece of cake.... the only issue we have is getting the mechassault game cuz we dont have a way to gamestop unless we tlk my dad into taking us.... but other than that we will have it done by this week... it is said that it takes 30 min. to do but we had everything in 5 min. other than the game itself... so it should be a quick fly thru once we get it... not sure how quick tho...lmao.... but its good to know that everyone else had gotten it done without really screwing up the box.... i wanted to hear that bfore i tried it for sure.... lol
Its now or never. But now is better.

I don't know where you are located, but I bought my game on ebay. I paid about $5 including shipping. As for XBMC, I have it as an application, I put Unleashed as my dashboard. XBMC is one of the best media player you can find.

Did you do the following?:
1. find your usb in the device manager
2. right click + "update driver"
3. Choose no and then "install from a list"
4. choose "Don't search..."
5. Click "Have Disk" "Browse" and then find your driver.
The driver should be in C:\Program Files\Datel\ActionReplay Xbox\Drivers
6. If you get an error "The Specified location does not contain information about your hardware."
the your have to edit the driver .inf file. These two entries:
(to do this, use USBVIEW.EXE to find your usb's vender and product numbers and replace them)
:::note::: leave out the 0x of both entry's.
I hope this helps, if not you someone else on the internet.

cyprusrom,
This tutorial DOES work how it is, for MANY people, but for the few out there (such as me), if AR version 1.40 will not recognize the USB but the xbox does, then they should try 1.05.

@Ro_Bot
And that is okay, but to say that it does not work the way it was written and that it only works with an old version of the AR is not correct.

This tutorial DOES work, and remember....if anyone is having problems with their USB device, experiment around. MP3 players/iPods can brick, but there are tons of USB-compatible devices that work. I happened to have a 12-in-1 card reader that worked with a Sandisk card.
So again, experiment. Some situations are different than others and maybe there are other ways to softmod out there.

for everyone out there that cant get it to work... alot of pple are explaining to you how to get it to work for your mem. card to the action replay... its simple to understand and i have done this 15 times in a row just to check and see if i could keep doing it over and over again and still be able to use it on the xbox and then format it afterwords to save important files to it for things i need it for... and for those saying well i have to use an older version of AR you dont need to not really ne ways... i thought i would have to the first time... but figured it out on my own and got it to work with the version i have which is 1.40 i believe im not to sure since well it doesnt say the version on it... but it does work for me.... again i have gone and formatted it for the pc and xbox about 15 times.... its easy to do.... its not hard to understand this guide pple.... my lil nephew who is 6 years old can even understand this... and if he can then you can to.... just read it step by step and do wat you need to do by following the steps and your good to go.... any body can do this.... oh and by the way again i congrats. the person who did this.... lol.... its been awhile since i have been on here but now that i am on i can congrats. again... loving the fact i can used saved files on my xbox not as cheating but as for fun.... alot of the save files i have put on the xbox are for the games i have beaten bfore i did all this... and well i noticed how some pple have done things dif. on the games then i have to complete it.... but made it so it was still fun to mess around....lol
Its now or never. But now is better.

Well, I have done all the steps above, and even realized(thanks to Ro_bot on page 8)that I had to click on "HAVE DISK" when locating the MaxDrive. ;)
Maybe Chunkhead could incorporate those instructions since i did see 3-4 people ask where it was and then 2 pages to get the answer. Just a thought. Great TUT, however I do have one problem. If I'm following this correctly, I drag the whole folder of "SID4.NK.Launcher"(the folder after I've unzipped it) into the AR(right?)and underneath it reads "unnamed save". That may all be okay, but I try to drag the "SID4.NK.Loader.SplinterCell.NTSC" folder into it and it says "this is not a valid xbox save". I've tried again and both say invalid.
Maybe I missed it in the 8p, but any idea what I may be doing incorrectly?
Thanks!
No one knows....?!

It works fine with xbox but when it is plugged into action replay on pc using a bought cord, it totally bungs. Action replay shows it when i start initially, but has all the spaces filled with Unknown title. Then i delete them, nothing happens so i refresh/format it. Then the AR software disappears it after scanning (i think) for devices which no longer shows up.Here is the USBVIEW of it. :(:(:(

I don't know computers, but what worked for me was what Chunkhead listed at the end of his write-up:
Quote: ****NOTE****
To re-use your USB as an actual storage device, uninstall the USBIO driver from your Device Manager and format it. It is also advised that you do NOT use an MP3 player (iPod, etc) for this. It has been known to almost brick.

I finally get my hands on an older flash(32MB) that let me save the things I needed to in AR, I put it in XBOX, and it erases! So, I go back through the process, but AR won't recognize it now. Try it in XBOX again, now it says it's damaged. Tried formatting to FAT/FAT32 1st, but still says "damaged"
For something so simple, this sure is a pain in the @$$!
I have another that I can look at on the XBOX, but I have to go in and manually erase it on XBOX. I save the maxdrive to it and put it in AR, but won't recognize. Funny, when I go to device manager, they have both showed the MaxDrive inside.....
Anyone have a USB they are sure will work that I can purchase? I'm tired of finding new ones to use.

???-I can just put a usb end on my controller, plug it into my pc and put an XBOX memory card in it, right? I would figure then I wouldn't have to play with the USB Flash Drive.
