as far as i know, you cannot convert a region game save.
can you even copy the jap game save? because you can't copy the u.s. game save to the sd card.

I backed up the wiizard version onto a memorex dvd+r DL with nero at 2.4x on a matshita UJ-845S and ran it on my wii modded with wiikey 1.9g
Once inserted, the wii took about 40 seconds to update, reboot and run the game. Right after I pressed start, I got Error 001. Then I noticed that my wii was 3.1U so I updated it to 3.2U using the internet option but I'm still getting the same error.
Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Do any other of your backups or originals work?
Yes, I forgot to mention that my original SMG works. Other back ups also work (Metroid Prime 3, Pokemon, etc)

Can anyone feedback what other media has worked besides Memorex DL +R and I believed other said Verbatim DL +R also worked.
Any other worked?
Maybe we should start a working media list for SSBB, and we just continue adding it to the list so others can see it without reading tons of pages.

I suggest you use ImgBurn because it has has been working for a lot of people and set a layer break enter 2084960 then try burning it....

YEAH welcome!!!, game works fine. Thanks for all the help. I used the wizard version, wiikey 1.9g with latest update on wii using Verbatim +R DL burned with imgburn at 2.4X...took about 45 minutes. I still bought the original but it is still in the package!

All working fine on Pal Wii

Firmware 3.2E updated via internet.

Verbatim +R DL
Imgburn on macbook pro @ 2x
ISO was not run through any brickblocker on start up i got the message and undate was needed in the disc channel. I opted to update and the wii updated. The game then appeared in the disc channel.
Game plays perfectly, online game works fine.
Because of the update i have duplicate weather and news channels which i have moved away so they do not annoy me. Other than that, no problems at all.
Now if i just had the instruction book i would be happy. Does anyone know if scans of the book are available anywhere?

Ok, i´ve wasted 2 discs, first was a dvd dl sony, used clonecd with the .dvd file provided for filebreak @1x, and wii just doesn´t recognize, second time i tried imgburn @2.4x with same dvd brand and the wii recognized it 1 time (after 20 resets) and after starting it just went white screen, now im trying verbatim @ 2x to see how it goes... (just bought a brand new wii for this, the old ones i have at my lan center just do nothing with double layer).

This third disc is readed fine allways but it just goes white screen before the intro, so unplayable :S any ideas?!

Frying your Wii firmware works. Half installing an update will corrupt the code and make the DVD-roms natural code take over. A simple recovery will bring your wiikey back. This will not brick your Wii. At worst, you'll just need to use the recovery disk to make the wii work again.
All your doing is writing to the instructional area of the wiikey, a flashable section. Your not affecting the EEPRom recovery sector (to my knowledge).

I went down to staples and got some dvd+r dl verbs yes ;)
It was a big day for dual layer sales me thinks =)
But just to add to the thread.
WiiZard ISO.
wiikey 1.9g
Firmware updated to 3.2 online.
Did NOT adjust the layer break.
Burned @ 2.4 speed on Verb dual layer.
Works perfectly.
Even dug out my old wavebird :D

Another successful backup with Wiizard iso.. 1st try
Launch NTSC Wii
Wiikey 1.9g
Newest Imgburn and Verbatim DL @ 2.4x no layer break
I updated to 3.2U before inserting the disc to update. If you have troubles loading after creating the save file I suggest deleting the save file and try again.

Problem:
I got the japanese version working on my NTSC-US Wii, but now I just bought the US version and it does not work. The wii makes strange sounds and a black screen comes up saying an error has occurred. I have a 1.9G wiikey. This is the only game that does not work. Any suggestions?

eventhough it's been explained many times, here's the solutions.
you will have to do the 70% corruption on your wiikey to play your retail version of brawl. apparently the wiikey cannot distinguish dual layer discs properly.
or you can add a switch to your wiikey, so you can manually turn off the chip without corrupting the wiikey.
