I am trying to update the eur@v@x m@x V with the latest UFL_Kuro image with the autoroll fix. However I have some problems.
Using a laptop with a 9pin serial connection. When I start the UFL it by default starts to look for COM4. My machine only has COM1 available.
On selecting DOWNLOAD - I get a START button and on selecting this I get the following message:
"The receiver was not detected"
"If you want to download the firmware in the boot mode, click OK button below and AC power on your receiver"
COM Port settings:
COM1 COM2 COM3 COM4 (You can select one of these)
I have a Serial cable supplied with the Eur@v@x, so I have assumed it is a NULL modem cable.
So can I follow the instruction above and will it detect the box on a newly selected COM port? Or do you think that it is a serial cable but not NULL modem?
Help much appreciated.
Thanks

It's your COM Port.
Change it to one that the UFL has too.
Even if windows reports a particular COM Port is in use, you can still force it to use it for the box.

If you got your cable with the box its very likley that its a null modem cable and this is fine for the job.
Right click My Computer then click properties,
go to device manager
press the + at the side of com/ports
right click your com port then properties
in port settings click advance then assign it to com-p the ufl is searching for.

Thanks for your help. I went to the advance settings in Dev Mgr and it allows me to select only COM1 or COM2 - it says COM3 and COM4 are in use.
Any ideas how to free up COM4?
Thanks

does it just seem like nothing happens.....any help would be super cos i'm getting fierce fed up.
Thanks in advance
What happens when you try to download the update? Do you get any error message at all?
The NULL MODEM cable could be the problem, especially if it is not really a NULL MODEM CABLE!!
Update: I just googled that part number you quoted and it would appear to be a regular serial cable and NOT a null modem, so now you know what your problem is.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L68BT&DOY=5m4 is what you have.
This is what you need: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Modu.../quote]
L71BT is most definitely the correct part number & if that is what you got then it is a "NULL Modem Cable"
When you get to stall situation, try disconnecting the power & connecting it up again quickly (Really quickly) It may take a few attempts.
I think someone may have been mixing and matching posts a bit in the replies above, my quote saying the guy had the wrong cable was for someone who posted that they had a L68BT cable and I posted to say that they had the wrong one.
L71BT is the correct cable as GMAN has already pointed out!!
Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

All scanned juts need to arrange.
As a tip to anyone else - follow Hitecks advice and also check for any applications that may be using the port (COM4). I also found an old application (either old Palm or Nokia application) that was capturing the port. Close any application in your taskbar to ensure there are no conflicts
Thanks again.

however, in SG8?s thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/653745 the software version is v3- 18-04-08. Is there any major difference in these versions ?
Thanks
Yes, the 18-04-08 works with Chorus and (I think) it updates quicker but I am not sure about the quicker updating thing!
You are correct, 18-04-08 does update much quicker then the 10-04-08 so 18-04-08 is the one to use.

No you don't but if you want to have a look at the secret menus go into language settings and put in 1968 twice.

Rob when you hit download it should say system reset, if it is stuck on that unplug and then plug back in the Eurovox. Sorry I have to leave hope you get sorted.
