Replacing Xbox 360 disc drive

My 360 got assassinated by the red ring of death. I had already opened the case for a thorough cleaning so warranty void. I pulled the Hitachi disc drive out to use in a different 360. The working 360 came stock with a Philips-Liteon 16d2s, or i guess a BenQ, but MS said the philips... either way. I plugged the hitachi into the working 360 and powered on. The console wil read and play DVDs no problem, but inserting games causes the console to display a screen with just the Xbox logo and "XBOX 360"... Do i need to change firmware, or what?
