Bought a Xbox360 slim 4GB matte black (Missing the HDD)

I want to use a 3rd party 1TB 2.5 HDD and a SoftMod.
I've done lots of modding so I'm comfortable doing just about anything (cutting/soldering).

Ive been doing a lot of reading but I find conflicting info about whether I can use AND get full space from a 1TB HDD.

Do I still have to buy a WD scorpio/velociraptor as the 1TB HDD or does it matter now?
What are the dimensions/specs of the original HDD for SLIM (any size)?
Does 8MB vs 16MB cache have an noticeable impact on performance?
7200 vs 5400 matter in terms of heat generated?

What are some good softmod tut links these days?

Thanks.

If you want to use a softmod you need a compatible drive and hddhackr:
http://www.homebrew-connection.org/hddh...rive-into-fatx/
Also you need a drive housing, but they can be found cheap on ebay or at dx.com (for example).
There is no possible way of using a full 1 TB harddrive that way, because you can only use original hddss.bin and so far the largest drive Microsoft have released for the Xbox 360 is 320 GB. Even if you use a larger drive the Xbox 360 will only see 320 GB. For the HDDSS.BIN use google.
Tutorial for HDDHackr:

When you're done you have an Xbox 360 compatible drive, but you're still missing partition 2, which is needed for the Xbox emulator for example. Tutorial for installing it:
http://digiex.net/downloads/download-ce...1-emulator.html
For any bigger internal harddrive you need an RGH, which is a hardmod. With this hardmod you won't be able to use Xbox Live anymore.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Thanks for the tips. I'm willing to hardmod.

What HDD dimentions/specs do I need to know using RGH?

Can I still install game patches/DLC if I cant connect to xbox live?

Thanks.

You don't hardmod the harddrive, you hardmod the Xbox 360. Just google for RGH or Reset Glitch Hack.

Uhh yeah, I know you dont hardmod the HDD..

I know about RGH but am now researching which has the best boot times/prices and open to suggestions.

Also (separate from RGH) I still need to know if any 1tb HDD brand/specs are recommended over another. Otherwise, ill probably buy a 1tb 7200 16mb cache with the hope of a performace boost over a lesser HDD.

Daak:

Keep in mind that a faster 7200 rpm hard disk with larger cache will not help video game performance significantly, IMO. Yes there may be some game scenes/maps loading a second faster, but don't expect times cut by 30 or 40%.

I just looked up the specifications of a WD600BEAS, which is one of the oldest and slowest ones compatible with HDDHackr. It is just 5400 rpm, and all games run fine on it.

IMO the biggest performance gain you would actually notice is if you run Linux on your Xbox 360.
