I took the X360 to a person to get it flashed and he told me there are separate charges for "flashing" and "updating".
I wanted to ask how is it possible to "update" a flashed xbox 360? I tried Microsoft's update and it reflashed the X360 back to firmware version. So how is that guy gonna get it "updated" without it getting reflashed to frimware version? What is the procedure for updating an already flashed X360?
if its the same guy that flashed your box, he'll have the drives key and its just a matter of re-flashing it to lt3.0
i think his terminology is as follows
flashing - new drive, never been flashed before, no drive key
updating - drive been flashed before, has original dvd key, update to cfw
So if he flashed it originally, then he'll be updating to cfw with dvd original key, which is a much simpler process.
ok, then one needs to to obtain key from your drive using a method for your model of drive. Read the jungleflasher tut, (google) it takes you through step by step in drive id and subsequent flashing from original to cfw.
This process is more involved (not complex) than updating an already flashed drive with its key known
One can't loose the key, the key is embedded on the drive which is linked to your xbox, hence the need to obtain this key when flashing ones drive.
My modified Xbox 360 got re-flashed to firmware by that Microsoft Update. So should I tell the guy to "update" my Xbox (which costs less) or "modify" it (which costs more)
Whether a modder charges more to "update" or "modify" your console depends on whether they already have the key dumped. As they even offer an "update" option, that implies that they are keeping backups of peoples' keys in case they send their 360 in again, therefore you should qualify for the update option as they won't need to dump the key again.
The reason the update option is cheaper is because they don't have to dump the key, so updating the console takes less time as they just need to erase the drive and flash the new firmware (with your key in it from the backup, of course).
Just ask the guy which option you qualify for anyway. Or learn to do it yourself, which works out cheaper in the long run.

But I'm going to this modder for the FIRST TIME. I got my XBOX 360 flashed elsewhere but I shifted from that place. I found this new modder in my current location. So "update" or "modify"? Does the fact that I'm getting it modded from him the first time change anything?
