hello everyone. im new to the xbox world an i ws just wondering if you guys can help me out.
i just got a xbox which had [b]RROD[b] i was able to get to work but now my problem is that it keeps overheating. i want to do a fan mod with external power supply, ive done endless hours of research and came up short. If you guys would be able to lend a nubbie a hand, it would be much appreciated and stir me in the right way.
Thank you,

google 12v fan mode all you really have to do is put on wire in, the fans should run fast enough to keep it going if that is the problem!

Are you talking about the 12v fan mod for stock fans. If so I've tried that and it didn't help. Xbox still over heats

are you sure overheating is the problem? sounds like something else, if you put screws in they may not be tight enough, or if you did a reflow maybe it didnt flow correctly!

Well now that has me thinking. When I turn the Xbox within 10-15 mins I turn it off. Then turnn it on again and I would get the 3 rl

yeah if you put good thermal paste, then i would say you have a cracked solder joint, when it heats up it expands making you lose contact, when it cools off its allowing connection again!

i bought a $3 thermal paste; silver based. i made sure the heatsinks were secure. Should i try the x-clamp fix.? If i have a cracked solder joint, how would i be able to fix that.

Might also be too much/too less thermal paste.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

And that is why I don't recommend the x-clamp fix, I bet the screws are too tight.

Especially because it might have been killed off for good by the XClamp fix.

You can do the opposite, put the mainboard in the oven at 250 Celsius for 10 minutes, I managed to fix 3 out of 5 boxes that way.

okay. just a couple questions befire i do that. 250 celsius is 482 fahrenheit. do i put the motherboard on a sheet tray. will doing this brust the capacitor. Finally after the ten minutes are up do i take the motherboard out the oven.

I used a grate and two wooden breakfast plates to get an even ground. Also remove the CMOS battery, that one could blow up (happened to me once on a PS3). I wouldn't take the board out of the oven directly, just open the oven door and wait until it is cold, if you bend the board while it is still hot you might break off some capacitors. You can check youtube, search for Xbox 360 oven. You will find a lot of videos telling you to use silver foil, but I personally would not recommend that, because warm air might get stuck under these silver foils and the board might not cool off evenly, which could make the board bend. Also make sure it is as clean as possible, if there is still dust on it it might start smoldering. That doesn't damage the board, but the smell is annoying, especially in the kitchen ;)

if your saying 250F then that will never work, it takes 360F for the solder to start to melt! 15 minutes is way to long at that temp, best to start the oven with the xbox inside turn it on 390 once it gets to temp leave it a minute and turn the oven off, let it stay there until below 100F!
