Is there anyway to take the current Hard drive that comes with the Xbox 360 (non slim0, take it apart and swap the actual hard drive with an external/internal hard drive used on a pc? Maybe my thinking is incorrect but i would like to learn how or why this can or cannot be done.

iv soldered it inside of the case and run the sata and power lead through to the top and put my hdd into a enclosure and its sat ontop of the case, but be warned if your going to try this as my sata cable is shorting itself out on the silver foil insulation inside the sata cable? lust to let you know. :)

So is it required to solder or did you just choose to do it?

Your very welcome. Hopefully others will see it to as there are 90 of those 250gig hard drives left and thats a good price especially when there's no messing around. Just throw it in and go with it.

thedon01, to answer your question you can take the hdd out of the original xbox 360 case and plug it straight into the xbox 360 slim. The xbox 360 slim only uses a plastic spacer but standard sata data and power connectors. All you have to do is disassemble the old xbox 360 hdd caddy and plug the drive in. If you're really picky about how it fits you can buy a slim hdd shell on ebay for about $12 shipped.

Here's the link for the slim hdd shell

can you help me understand why we're limited to Bevs hard drives? Why can't we take a standard external HD from a pc and convert to a xbox 360 hd without the HD casing?
