as omegaman says ....Well...my LH20A1H is gonna remain "the reigning champion." This is an IDE interface.
If you can find this older one you'll get a good reader. I'm using the SATA version as my reader and burning with Optiarc 7240S But will not hesitate to burn with the LH 20A1S.
Both above can book type with correct firmware.

indeed. It's pretty rare that the LH-20A1H has trouble reading discs. Very awesome burner/reader. Never a coaster either. Fairly difficult to find online...

What do you suppose causes a burner to degrade in reading capability? My Sony DRU820 use to be a favored reader as well. But I stored it a while back, and recently went to use it, and its having trouble reading a measly C-D! I suppose it could benefit from a laser cleaning. But is that the only factor for that kind of degradation?

These discs just plain suck lately. But at least the LH-20A1S is learning it, and burning it better than the other burners ;) LOL! learning and burning *chuckles*

Not too bad for an MCC 004 :D
New batch by the way. Although I bought 2 at one time. If I were to buy more at this point, they'd probably be significantly different. At least I hope so :P

And now, the very reason for my living, the reason I was born. Ok, perhaps not :P Nah, just picked up a BD-Rom Combo drive at the egg. Can't wait to try her out. A little irritated that they were out of their cheaper stock, but I guess I wasn't surprised. Yes, I was lazy and didn't take a pic. LOL! Perhaps some screenies to come though.

nice Oman, but I can't justify the cost of a BR blank on enough movies that I might want to watch in HD. And I don't watch movies on my 23" HD monitor.

I had a bit of spare money laying around LOL! Besides, I can think of a few screenshots/wallpapers I'd like to still from a few movies in HD :D Perhaps i'll help in driving down the cost...
Rob, if a drive can read, it can rip/copy/backup. It however cannot burn BD discs. I didn't wanna spend that much yet! First I wanna play with other aspects ;)

I was close to buying the burner. In fact in only a few months (Maybe less) I'll take the plunge. I wonder when Taiyo Yuden is gonna release BD discs...I imagine they're producing the industries like with Dvd's.
Lets just say it's in my best interest to buy one :D

Here's a scan I meant to post, and forgot! LOL!!
I just started doing multiple burns using Nero Burning Rom 8 Micro. Works like a charm! I wish someone had custom firmware for the 7220s, but no one appears to have anything but the stock 1.01 firmware. Does anyone know what model LiteOn the 7220s is?
BTW! rick5446 has been converting BlueRay DVDs for a while now. I don't know if he's burned any BDs yet, but I'll ask!
Happy Holidays,
Russ

Rob,
I'll check that out. These defective -R Verbs that I bought are about 25% bad. Some fail the burn, some will only play in the Burner that made them, some show no particulars in Nero, but just blank spaces. The Ridata "Eco" DVDs I bought are the stupidist idea I/ve come across in a long time. No one ever thought to put a place for a label! There's no Title or information lines at all. Hard as hell to see when you do use a marker to write on them! Now I know why they were so cheap! LOL!!
Happy Holidays,
Russ

tbh i think my 20A4P is dieing on me.. it is getting louder and louder. and sometimes when i put a burnt disc in it. it shows in nero cd/dvd speed as a DVD-RW and wont play in that drive. i take it out and put it in another drive and it shows it as a DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM and playes fine.
