There are good Gigabyte, ASUS, DFI, MSI, and Intel boards out there Oman7.. just do some research and don't look in the building thread here... they only LUST after Gigabyte and you may not get a good recommendation for something else. LOL. ;)

well i think im set for hdd for the time being.
just got my 500gb seagate back from RMA. entire new drive. plus i just got the rewards points from dell and ordered a WD1001FALS. minus rewards points it only cost me $38.99. gotta love that. not sure if im gonna install it when i get it or wait and put it on the new mobo. might be about the same time anyway. im only gonna run 3 hdds(250,500, 1tb) and 3 sata burners. yup that means i have to get me a 3rd sata burner. still havent made up my mind if its gonna be a BR player or not. got a couple burns im gonna do tonight when i get home so i might post a scan or 2 tonight.

The only thing wrong with it is it's a Seagate.

The failure rate of the Seagate, is why I picked the Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s drive for a Christmas present from a good Friend. I looked the two drives up on the net, and it didn't take me long to ask for my first Western Digital drive in over 5 years. It was no Contest! The Newegg numbers tell the tale

It's Quiet, runs Cool, and it's Fast! Not as fast as the FALS, but still plenty fast enough. Now that I can split the load of DVDRB/CCE rebuilds over three drives, it cuts 2 to 3 minutes off of every rebuild. It seems to work best with the program running on my boot drive, the Output Folder on the second drive and the work folder on the 500, which is the fastest

well ya wont hear me bash seagate. ive never had a bad drive from them. the reason this one got RMA'd is prolly cause of my own doing. i have a total of 11 seagate drives and not 1 has failed on me.4 of them are almost 6 years old.
i have only had 1 wd drive thats my GP500gb that i have now. and no issues with it. and the WD1001FALS is on the way i should have it tomorrow. if the snow storm allows ups to run tomorrow..lol

here is a nice little burn. i used nero to create img and then scan. burnt at 12x and scanned at 4x on the AD7220S all done on this drive.

here is the CRT of this burn and then the scan

got me wondering here. it wouldnt burn past the 6x speed. i had it set for 12x. it went up pass 8x and droped down to 6x. i amdoing another burn on my 7200S and it is burning fine at 8x... i am wondering if im haven a issue with the ide controler on this board. my 20A4P wont do anything any more and now the 7200A is haven issues.. it could just be this is a new media for it and haven issues there??

EDIT:
here is the one i just did. disc 2 disc useing anydvd/clonedvd2(still the best combo there is) burnt on this valuedisc media. @8x no issues. plus the scan looks better. actually pretty good for CMC MAG. yea i know dont lash me BlivetNC(friends dont let friends burn CMC MAG)

Rob, Have a read ;)
1Tb = 931gb. I have 3 1Tb drives. What it amounts to is binary classification, and the industry takes advantage of it for marketing means. At least that's my opinion on it.

Quote:
Actually its due to differences in how a TB is classified.

1TB = 1,000,000,000,000B

931.32*1024*1024*1024 = 1,000,000,000,000B

HDD makers measure storage in decimal, Windows does it in binary.

Rob, any reason you haven't upgraded DVD-RB to 1.28.2 and HC to 0.23 ?. I know if it's not broke don't fix it but i use the above very often and they're bulletproof (as your versions probably are). And let's be honest, these are most likely the last versions of this proggie, what with BD Rebuilder being worked on now.

Also, don't be scared/wary of those CMC MAG M01's, i have used thousands of them, they're excellent discs.

I thought Joe Ryan had taught all of us that CMC Mags were not the plague. I won't hesitate to buy them at a cheap price. I almost wish Office Depot had gone to them rather than the Ritek F16 although I haven't had issues with them either.JM2C

Indeed. My CMC MAG's are ok(DataWrite). I haven't had a coaster with them yet. But I don't use them very often. And I only use them on good burners ;) E.G. Lite-on or Optiarcs.

LOL... it's just the way Windose sees it. ;)

NICE storage RObert. I've gotta do some "cleaning" to make room for the new stuff going into my puter soon. :) I'll be adding 1.5TB within the week I'm sure but I have so much to clean and arrange it'll take me WAY more time to get ready than it will to "format and install". :p

Geez... I'm behind... you fellas posted some stuff while I was messing around and I didn't realize it. ;) I've used a few of those CMC MAG M01's and they are ok but as Oman7 said you gotta use a good burner to do it. ;) My friend had some sort of Philips external and it was TERRIBLE with those discs!! All of the ones he backed up for me while I was teaching him how to burn have gone "bad"... only 3 I think. I have the Ben Hogan lesson DVD's somewhere and haven't checked them... I'm worried now... :(

Here's a couple of scans

Ritek F-16

Verb MCC RG20

While the Ritek's appear to do a better job, their quality is maddeningly inconsistent! It just seems to be pot luck, whether you get a good one or not. Some were so poor I threw them away! The verbs? These will be my last -R DVDs. They take forever to address in any computer. If it's a slow computer it takes over a minute to address the DVD! The +Rs are much better quality DVDs.

I may have one more go at -Rs, because I haven't used Yudens in a while, and they don't seem to have any +Rs. Anyone care to comment on these, or recommend something better, feel free?

Yuden -R's are awesome to say the least. TYG02's like the ones you just linked will NOT give you any trouble. The TYG03's (16X Discs) do very well despite their scan quality.

Russ the TY's you linked to are the REAL deal from what I can tell.. Premium line if I'm seeing it correctly. :) They should code out to TYG02 and are brilliant discs!!! NEVER had a coaster with 100's of burns that wasn't caused by doing something stupid... so all my or my computers fault. ;)

I think you can get them cheaper thru SMS or Meritline but if you have some credit with the EGG I understand. :)

good lucky buddy!!!!

This is what I mean when I talk about the Ritek F-16s being inconsistent!

It's horrible! Totally unacceptable! Threw it in the trash!

This is the same movie burned on one of the -R Verbs. Same burn speed, and same settings in Nero Disk Quality test!

The previous Ritek burn from my last post was decent enough, but this one is crap! The Verb, burned so much better! My blank DVDs are all stored in the bottom drawer of my desk, and never see any sunlight. The cake boxes are always kept closed, and it never gets very hot in here, even in the summertime as I have the AC on then! This whole batch of F-16s has been like this! In my eyes they are junk!

Best Regards,
Russ

Russ, are you using lite-on smart tools on the 7220S? It's actually a lite-on drive. I bet it can utilize smartburn...

To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!
