a friend gave me his xbox 360 because it had the ROD syndrome. i fixed it works great now.but i have no controller for it. it will auto play any movie i put in it cept back up movies. as far as i can tell its a totally stock system. is there some kinda update i can save to my memory stick and it run it? i know a used 360 controller is going to cost me around $20.00 not a bad price. and also if someone can tell me how to find out what version 360 i have is? all i can tell you is the dvd tray front is totaly cromed. thanks for letting me know any info...

If your Xbox 360 hasn't got a HDMI port it was produced in 2005 or 2006, meaning you have a Samsung drive inside, which also means you can do almost anything with it, if you don't care about going on Xbox Live I would flash Xtreme firmware to it, it's unstealth meaning unsafe on Xbox Live but you also never have to flash again. For flashing it you have to open up the console again and connect the drive to your computer using a SATA port and the console for power. Just google for Jungleflasher, download the latest version and also the tutorial.

ok mine doesnt have hdmi but i think im going to leave it as is for a while untill i can learn more about the 360. if i wanted to ever sell my 360 as is with no controller what should i ask for it? or if i decided to trade it what do you think i could get for it? my friend also gave me a game for it called need for speed "pro street"
The game is worthless (too old), the console already had the RROD, which is going to apear again (depending on the way you fixed it I'd say within 1 week to maybe 6 months, if you are very lucky). Unfixed and unopened RROD consoles you can get at ebay (Germany) for about 20 to 30 Euros (30 to 40 US$), depending if you sell the PSU with it or not.

i dont know if you heard of fixing the rrod by using 2 q-tips to stop both fans from spinning for about 5 or 6 minutes then shut down youre 360 and let it sit for about 30 to 45 minutes, then youre 360 will work just fine again. but, like you said, it will happen again im shure. but, it was worth a try and mine does work for now lol. but,also i paid nothin for the 360 so if it crashes again,its not gonna hurt my feelings. and like you said, the need for speed game IS worthless, my wife called our local gamestop and asked what she could get on trade credit or cash and they told her $1.00 i never laughed so hard.
