hi everyone.just looking for some info and advice. I have had a 2800+ barton core for a while which has an unlocked multiplier today i bought some new crucial ballistix PC4000 and at the moment it is running happily at 10x200mhz FSB also while i am running prime95 torture test. What is the best i can expect out of this with a stock cooler.under a full load with torture test it is running about 50 - 52 degrees. Can you recommend a good but quiet cooler and some settings. My hardware is
Albartron KX18D pro2
2800+ barton core stock cooler
crucial ballistix PC4000 2 x 512
AlbatronFX5900 video
4 x 80mm case fans

hello maro42 unlock barton lucky you man!!
well mult of 10x by 200 = 2000mhz ofcourse is running stable your cpu is underclock xp2800 is clock at 2083mhz.. the beauty of having a unlock multiplier is that you dont have to do o`c by the fsb only.
so you can go for higher multiplier and lower fsb ;)
ok about the cooler quiet and cool (thats not the volcano 12 ofcourse) the best cpu cooler ever but is really loud.

hi again thanks for the reply Dr.xp i increased the multiplier to 10.5x and left the FSB at 200 and it detected as an athlon xp3000+. I run prime95 again and it run for 58 minutes before an error. So do i increase the vcore voltage just a little or go straight to 1.8v. The temp stayed around 54 degrees.

no, i suggest that you try higher multiplier and lower fsb
using higher fsb the core demand more power so you can increase vcore to 1.8v amd recommend not to exceed 1.85-1.9v.
but more power generates more heat so try higher mult and lower fsb.
remember overclocking is not just about the numbers

Dr.Xp, i was of the understanding that having a higher FSB was desirable, doesnt having a hight fsb make your total bandwidth greater??, thus increasing the amount data that can be exchanged with the Memory?
so wouldnt it be more benifical to have an FSB of 200 at mult of 10, rather than a fsb of 166 at mult of 12.5 ?

I tried higher multiplier and lower FSB but prime95 wouldn't run fr more than a few minutes. So i went back to 10.5 x 200fsb and increased the vcore from 1.65v to 1.75v and run prime95 again. this time it was still running after 2.5 hours. and the temp was still only 55 degrees. So i went out for a while and left it run. when i come back the system wasn't doing anything. Blank screen thought it must have been hibinating or something but wouldn't wake up so i pushed the reset button and not even a post. So i turned it off and left it later it started but only for about half an hour. Have i killed it do i need to go and buy a 3200+?

BRAPUSS of course having a high fsb is a dream for must of us but higher fsb,average temps,tight memory timings all working stable is a challenge!! thats the beauty of overclocking.
as i toll you before a 10x*200 stress more your cpu with higher risk of unstability than running 13x*166 or 170.
but any way try 10*200(2000mhz) and increase your vcore 1.775 or 1.85v always monitoring your temps!!
every system when it come to o`c is different so is about try and try until you get the higher but stable config.
remember overclocking is not just about the numbers
marko42 man killing a cpu with todays mobo being made for overclocking is almost impossible most of today mobos have overheating protection.
is simple clear your cmos to set your bios to factory settings.
you can do it by jumper or removing the mobo battery for a few seconds.

I have a barton 2800. I has having problems with OCing. Then I just set the mobo jumper to 200 and and left evything else alone. it seams to woks fine it that range. its over 2.3ghz now on air cooling. go figure.

ok here is the latest. I only increased he vcore to 1.675v not 1.75v. I got it going yesterday after work. It went for about 45 minutes then the sceen blanked out a couple of times then the system failed to respond then the screen went blank. Then it wouldn't start again for the rest of the night.When i got it to post yesterday i put the bios settings back to default but it still only went for 45 minutes. It started today again after work so i put it back to 12.5x 133fsb = XP2200+ to see how long it goes for.maybe it is my mainboard. any ideas?

i forgot to reply to your last reply Dr.xp it was stable at 10x 200 unstable at 10.5x 200 it apeared to be stable with the vcore set at 1.675v one notch up from default.

Well I have a chaintech the MSI is supposed to be even better but I don't remember anything about the settings. As I said all I did was to set the SFB jumper manualy on the board at 200. If you try to do it through the bios you will certainly run into problems as. Just look at your mobo manual for jumper settings and set it to 200 it is the easiest and fastest way to OC a 2800+ barton. Thas is if you have bough a memory that will support that of course. I went for overkill when I bought mine. Also get a good fan to keep the CPU cool. Here are my part as I ordered them from newegg maybe it will help: By the way if you are reading this DO NOT get this board it doest have any voltage or multiplier options

well it goes once more back to running at 2800+ but now it is running at 2.09 as before it was 2.08 must be a bios problem hopefully an update will correct it.

ok, mine was at 2.4 but i underclock it to 2.3ghz because one of my 120mm fan died and idle im getting 47 with volcano at max speed i put it at minimun 2000 rpm and it climb to 54Cº the thing is that here in dominican republic the temp is 38 Celsius with humidity of 95% is hell in here so i under clock until i replace my dead 120mm fan(monunted on a pci rack over the volcano powerfull 3 blade fan

i'm sure it does work!, but unfortunately it was a joke, i must admit i fell for it earlier as it's not that much bigger than half the coolers i've seen lately :)

Hi, first off I'm a new member here although i regurarly visit these forums for info. etc.
I have an AMD athlon 2200 xp, and I'm looking to get an AMD athlon 2800 xp and overclock it, the reason for this is that i want to be able to run battlefield 2 smoothly.
I have an Asrock k7s8x motherboard and a radeon 9600 256mb GFX card. I currently have only 512Mb of pc2100 memory, however if I overclock i will double this, so assume i have 1Gb of memory (pc2100)
If overclocking i have been offered a coolermaster Jet 7, which i am told will be sufficient enough cooling. My question is, will it work with the set up i have?
Also if it seems Ok to do so, any advice on what speeds etc to do it to would be welcome thanks :)
*edit* It is likely I will be able to get 1Gb of pc2700 memory.

athlon xp 2800+ is a really good procesor!! runs at 2089 mhz fsb 333mhz,L2 512kb cache vcore 1.65v.
is a good overclocker. ok i only see a few thinks that can give you unstability in overclocking:
1-mobo ASROCK k7s8x
is a good mobo but is not good it has the sis 746fx chipset im not very familiar with sis chipsets but. is well known that nvidia nforce 2 and via`s kt800 chpsets are the best overclockers (i recommend nvidia).
2-memory
youre usin ddr pc-2100 (266mhz) is not recomended for oc is not stable like ddr 400 (pc-3200).
3-cooler
2800xp they run hot when overclock so having a stock or regular cooler can give you some heat issues. aero cool 7 is not any good for this.. im sorry to say amd stock fan is the same or better..
speeds well every system is different you can overclock xp2800 from 2090-2500 (the higher the more unstable).
but before you overclock get the proper hardware to do it!
