I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe with a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ @2.21 GHZ !!! It is possible to do but a pain in the butt!! The V-Core is set to 1.7, the multiplier is 12.5 and the FSB is set to 177MHZ. I have 1.5 GB of PC3200 @202MHZ! I have had the FSB all the way up to 185MHZ resulting in 2.32GHZ but it wasnt the most stable computer!!!! So i returned it to the 177 and it runs great!!!! But recentl;y I added a SATA 120GB drive and that increased the overall performance of everything!!!! Now I have 2 - 80GB ATA and 1 SATA 120GB and i am impressed with it all together!!!!

I just turned my voltage up to 1.75 and my fsb to 180mhz and got 2.255GHZ out of my AMD 2800+ barton core. My only problem is my memory speed isnt what it is supposed to be! I have PC3200 but it is running @ PC2900 - 180MHZ how do I fix this! (I do have a friggen PC2700 512 stick in my computer but the other 2 are PC3200) If I take out the PC2700 will it run at the right speed?

yes no yugio sorry:!!
hello shwaggy. i got my xp at 2.375 with 1.775volts my memory ram/fsb ratio 1:1.
look the same happens to my with the abit nf7 mobo couldnt get pass 180 fsb with the same memory i had now. when i change to asus i set it to 2.37ghz stable i run prime95 for several hour with no errors (that means is stable but i dont think so!!). but let me tell you with the asus and the abit i found out that xp 2800+ in 175-180fsb works!! great even better than 195-200 stable,,,..
about your pc what cooler you have?
your mem cas latency timing?
and fsb/ram ratio?
those are very important settings for stability when oc-king!!
let me know we have same mobo and cpu.

I got the FSB up to 181MHZ and it is pretty stable at 2.26GHz .... I got a wild CPU Cooler the ASUS Star Ice @ about 5000RPM (quietly!). The Temp is @53C (bout 20 degrees more than normal) I havent taken the PC2700 Stick out yet.....waiting for another PC3200 The cas latency timings are :
Type : DDR-SDRAM PC2900
Frequency : 181 MHz
FSB/DRAM Multiplier : 1/1x
Channels : Dual
CAS Latency (tCL) : 3 clocks
RAS to CAS (tRCD) : 4 clocks
RAS Precharge (tRP) : 4 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) : 8 clocks
(1 last question) I have been trying to install PC Probe, an ASUS temp monitor.......I have had it on here for a long time but recently I had to reinstall it and now when I open the install file i get this damn 16 bit subsystem message: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEVEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications!!!! WTF can i do to fix this? I have tried several things but i cant figure it out!!!1

Hey Dr.xp Can you do me a favor an lemme know what ur OC settings are please! I wanna get my 2800+ Barton all the way up to 3GHZ like the guys here http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/Barton/ How the heck do they get there clocks so high? And are these the same chips we use in our computers cause most of them are from Japan.... Thanks for all the help! (Knowing someone else Overclocked as high as me safely makes me feel better about OCing) Now i know people overclocked the same processor as me to 3.2GHZ!
Anyway I have yet another question...... I am almost positive it was from overclocking but I have run all kinds of stress tests and i have decided my computer is stable but every once in a while attempting to Backup my DVD's and when my cpu intense screensaver comes on my computer monitor goes blank and the HD LED stops blinking meaning it froze! I am not sure if it is my Graphics Card or if it is from the overclocking? Please anything would be helpful cause i am sick of it! (although windows loads in like 30 seconds with the SATA drives) it is still a pain in the booty!

I took out the PC2700 but now the 2 PC3200 are running in single channel mode!!!! And the memory bandwidth went from 6414MB/s to 3478MB/s that sucks so I am putting the PC2700 back in for now!
I think I am going to hang on til I see AMD put out better Sempron processors (with 400MHZ FSB) and new MoBo's with PCI Express and DDR2 that arent 64 bit! But til then I am Building a P4 3.4GHZ DDR2 computer (for curiosity reasons) and to benchmark the 1 I have now with the P4! My friend got his P4 up to 3.8GHZ, but it is a little hot! So we will see!

ok, shwaggy.. look first those guys are using the same chip as we do!!
second the use water or some other xtreme cooling method.. ive been reading in the link you sent me. they are using abit nf7 mobo they do the pencil trick (they connect to specific circuit in the board to get the fsb over 200mhz its the only way that means is like impossible for us comon user to get there with ordinary and stock hardware).
about my computer settings:
athlon xp 2.375
fsb 190 mhz
vcore 1.775volts
ram/fsb ratio 1:1 (im using geil ultra plat. pc-4400)
system performance: optimal
memory: optimal
7-3-3-2.5
agp,memory volts stock.
about your monitor goin blank. look my pc running at 2.375 stable according to the results from prime95,aida32,sisoftsandra2005,cpu-burnin,cpubench no erros nice results but not really stable so lower your settings to stock see if the error persist if not is due to overclocking..
about your athlon running lower they said every machine is different i dont think so!! amd make the same cpu for everybody (except japan and europe due to higher voltage in hommes 220v) but they all work the same. i think the difference is in the hardware like psu, memory sticks and configuration anything beyond that is pretty hi-tech like liquid nitrogen jejejeje... or its a lie!!!.
my conclusion is that 2800-3200+ xp they are really great cpus amd lock the barton core (12.5mult) because is silly to overc. something that work just great!! that make those xp really hard and pain in the ass to overclock!!! im plannig to get an xp 2400+(the best to overclock) or 2500+ mobile cpu they can by oc to 3400+ no sweat!!!.
hope i help!

Yes, yes, grab the mobile, good advice. The best Socket A overclocking cpus ever.
I'm positive with a bigger PSU, better ram, and a better cooling solution I could get this thing up to 2.7GHz.
Only be warned that it's been shown that the newer 2400+Ms just don't seem to overclock as well as the older ones. The newer ones start breaking the sweat somewhere around 2.3GHz.
Right now I'm at the specs in my sig, and I can successfully POST @ 2.6GHz but no booting into windows :( Not enough power and the temp outside is going up so I have to watch my cpu temps.
Good luck with the OC'ing guys!

Dr.xp, Thank you for ur input! I recently read that AMD has lost a lot of money (5,000,000) in sales (due to flash memory sales) But because of this they wont really advance in desktop hardware (like DDR2 and PCI-Xpress boards for a while (wich bums me out) I use MAYA 6.0 Unlimited which is a very CPU intense computer animation porgram and it should run fine! But it is jumpy! Doom 3 is jumpy and i cant figure out the problem! I have a feeling i can unlock hidden settings on my Graffix card, but ATI is a pain!
Anyway til AMD comes out with those new MoBo's I need more out of my CPU! I have heard of the wire trick and I am going to investigate it the best i can! Maybe i can come up with something! I would go get the AMD Athlon 3200+ but they dont make them any more! now it is the Sempron! But if i figure it ou I'll post some more info!

hi, ive been reading on that matter to ddr2,pci-x for amd all that is suppose to come with the ati 200 xpress chipset but that is maybe for next year. i9 havent change to 64 bit because the nforce 3 chipset is a complete failure there the new version of it the nforce 3 250gb but is just out lets wait for the results..
about the 3200+ im plannig to get one for me is available a www.newegg.com at 147 us$ some friends told me is really fast a big jump from the 2800+ and 3000+.
if you get it before than i do let me know ;)

Yesterday I destroyed 2 AMD Athlon 2800 processors by overheating them to death! I tried everything I could do to get past 2.3GHZ! I found a computer store in Orlando Florida that had 10 AMD Athlon Processors left to sell! I managed to snag 4 AMD Athlon 3200+ processors for $100 dollars each! The guy told me he was going to use them for experimental purposes? (Whatever that means) But i put the 3200 in my omputer and the 400MHZ FSB makes a difference! I also managed to overclock it to almost 2.6GHZ! I have noticed a HUGE difference while playing Doom 3 and running Maya 6! (Good riddens to the 2800!)
I have recently learned that the more in SYNC all ur speeds on ur computer the better everything works together! Example i now have:
AMD Athlon 3200+ Barton with 430MHZ FSB
Operating @ 2530MHZ (430 x 11)
1.5GB PC3200 @ 410MHZ DDR
ATI Radeon 9600 (P.O.S.)
GPU Frequency : 450.69 MHz
Memory Bus Speed GPU : 2 x 263.77 MHz
Memory Bandwidth : 8441 MB/s
Communication between memory and processor is important as well as communication between memory on video card and ur processor! And so on!

Damn, how in the hell did you destroy them by overheating? I've never ever seen anyone kill an Athlon by heat destruction. Kill temp is around 85-90°C and 99% of the time mobo will shut it off before then.
You must have ran the voltage as high as it could go.
On second thought, i have seen an Athlon go because of heat, but it had no heat sink on top of it at all. Very strange that your processor died from overheating. You sure that was the cause?
Also, for Dr XP the best OCs are the mobiles. I don't think they come in any core but barton. Maybe you mistaked that for throroughbred.

wow!! schwaggy divinus is right you go way to high with the vcore because is the only way that asus mobo has thermal`protection even if you power up your pc without heat sink the mobo shuts down right away.,.
anyway lucky you manthose 3200 are cheap at 100$ see i told the difference is clear they rock!! since the run at 400mhz fsb with ddr 400 or above the ddr/fsb is ideal for overclocking..
divinus i said 2400+ througbread,,,, and the mobiles sorry forgot to use comas and everything..
but anyway you are right about that!

The temp was 85 celcius before it crapped out! It made it to windows with no screen of death but as soon as i went to check temps and benchmark it to post the speed it shut off! I reset bios and let it sit for a while but nothing! I even tried it in another MoBo and nothing either! I tried it again with another 2800 and it did the same thing! I figured if i fry them it will give an excuse to find the 3200 and I did! So i learned a little bout frying processors and got a new 1 at the same time!

hi peeps
i thought id put my 2 pennith in
i have a 2800+ o/c to 2.38 on a crappy aero7.
my board is only an asrock k7s8x and i have downclocked my memory to 189mhz to run with my cpu. i ran prime 95 for a few hours, ( 190+ comes in with errors after 3-4mins) and everythings fine.
my spec is as follows:
AMD 2800+ o/c to 2.38 (189x12.5)
Asrock k7s8x w/ bios ver 2.6
450W psu
2x512mb ddr400 downclocked to 189mhz
geforce 6800gt o/c to 412core, 1.12memory
soundblaster live 5.1
logitech 5.1 surround speakers
im looking to go for pentium next instead of 64bit cos my results on 3dmark 03,05 pcmark 04 are roughly the same so i thought id o/c a pentium beast!!

Ok quick question regarding dual channel ram..
Would I still get high performance using a 256 pair and a seperate 512 stick? or would they conflict and cause a bottleneck in memory speeds? they would be same type of ram

HI newphase lot been said about dual channel memory and single channel ( remember dual c. is on nforce chipsets and via that only runs on sigle channel).
ive read a lot of reviews and in benchmarks theres no big diference in some performance tests.
my personal xperience dual channel is faster because 2 mem stick share the load (hey im no expert just a plain user) a ddr 3200 (400mhz) in single channel will be 200 mhz check it on your bios and dual channel is 200mhz each memory dim ddr (Double Data) is belive to work best in pairs so what i did is when i got my pc i was plan to have 512 which is enough for my needs so i just got 2 256 geil pc-4400 (550mhz) by the way great performance!! 2 dims or one at the end is 512mb if they say 2 is faster i got two is 512 anyway.
so built your own xperience read in forums, webpages like: www.overclockers.com,www.tomshardware.com etc..
hope i answer your question (long answer sorry)
