Yeah the fact that the 2700+ is a TBredB and the 2800+ is a Barton :) Big difference. 2800+ hands down :)

DrXP,
the deal on the memory: I'm running 1GB of Kingston
Value Select PC3200 DDR400 ram (huge improvement after
upgrading from 512mb, highly recommended for games like
Doom that require 500mb of texture memory).
Sooooo, it is designed to run up to a fsb of 400mhz
(200mhz x 2 per clock cycle i believe). My OC'd fsb is
from 166mhz to 191mhz--->therefore, my memory is
running at 191mhz x 2 = 382mhz-->underclocked from its
400mhz stock speed.
So, even though my cpu is maxed out i don't have to
worry that my memory is unstable, which might be
limiting if you were using PC 2700 DDR333. Then with a
fsb of 191mhz u would be oc'ing the memory by 15% too
which it may or may not be able to do.
I have at other times OC'd the memory to 438mhz (when
letting memory be set by the "SPD" choice in bios) but
it wasn't stable. I am letting the memory be set by
"auto" in the bios which ties it to the fsb
automatically. this might be why others can't get up to
2.35 ghz reliably, maybe their memory can't handle the
overclocking though their cpu might.

thanx phredcong clear as water!! let me see if i get it the ddr 3200 (400mhz) gives you more room to increase your internal bus 166mhz to cope with the fsb/ram ratio to more stable settings.
and let the bios set the fsb/ram by selecting by spd ok got it!!
thks very helpful info.
yugioh2me theres an application call cpu-z is and .exe so you dont need to install it on your syst.
tells you cpu freq,fsb,vcore,cache
theres another call cpuinfo by amd at:ç

just to be sure :),
XP, when i let memory be set by "SPD" in BIOS and I set the fsb
to 191mhz, my memory is WAY overclocked (How or what
SPD works or is i'm not informed enuff to tell u, some
other more smarty knows for sure) and it won't boot.
But if i let it be set by the "AUTO" setting in BIOS it
is only clocked to the 191x2=382mhz and only my cpu
gets oc'd.
i sorta wish i REAlly knew this stuff :)
gotta get a car radiator for my computer next,
sheesh..:D!

yugio then your cpu is 384 kb cache, mine 2800+ has 512kb cache which i think make it faster also the barton core is supose to be faster than throubred.

The TBredB has 256K L2, the Barton has 512K. The TBredB also operates on a 266MHz setup while the Bartons run on 333MHz/400MHz

Wow, I missed a lot this weekend. Took me a while to get caught up. Speaking of apps for finding system info, SiSoftware Sandra works quite well. You can find a trial version at Download.com. It will also give you an estimate of what Athlon XP model number your chip is equal to.

Or for instance, as compared to t-birds (not that i'm braggin' or nothin' :), my athlon 2800+ xp Barton runs at 2.39ghz and fsb 382mhz (Sandra calls it a 3400+)...handles FPU calculation ALMost as good as pentium 3.6 weeniehurtzes :stoke:,:).
On the other foot, I have had a few crashes running Battlefield Vietnam, Point of Existence mod with 40 bots scurrying around for tar-git practice (spit chew here :)...doh says barton? hope it's the mod, I pray..:)
me go back to wasting GI now..:).

Now Sandra, I took a look on mine, and it says 2700+, so I'm fine with whatever i have.

Hi again,
Ok, so I should probably leave well enough alone with where I currently am on my processor speed with 2700 ram. That's what I am understanding.
Here's a different direction:
I am VERY happy, and always have been, with my video card. I use Rage 3D Tweak and have the overclocker set to 333 core clock and 315 mem clock speed. I dont have any mods to the card, but is there any good and/ or safe way to push the overclocking on my card without a different fan or special cooling? I'm just curious on some of the things you guys may have tried.....
Thanks

Hey found a screenshot of sum1 overcloking a 2800+ t-bred to up to 3.0ghz, 9th pic down
http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/TBred/page2.htm
Is this insanity??
and as for the 2.8 t-bred and 2.8 barton, yes higher cache but in many tests the 2.8 t-bred actually out performs the 3.0 barton

Wow, that's awesome. I don't know if i would want to go too subzero with the chip. Maybe somewhere around 5C or 6C would be a nice temp. But, like you said, it is an expensive toy. You would need a chip worthy of such a cooling system.
