Keep it to max until you go to sleep...trust me...If your computer is in another room that is different from the one you sleep in, then do what you want lol. I missed a class because i couldn't hear my alarm clock because it was so loud. Now get a Thermaltake Giant III if you're into gaming. That thing cools off the ole graphics card soo well!

You guys have been a big help. Sorry I'm such a novice. I'm getting another xp2800, until then, I'm stuck with my 1600. And yes, this fan is loud and I've already checked out the giantIII. Does it matter what graphics card? I have BFG Nvidia FX5600 256MB. I know, I know, I need the 6800!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, i just got the volcano 12 and they werent kidding when they said its like a vaccum cleaner! Anyways, i bought some pc nanotherm at the xoxide website, they said it was better than artic silver and now my comp hit 72 degrees idle, does that mean that it didnt work or did i not apply enough? What do you guys think, should i reapply more or just go with the artic silver? Also, should i unhook everything, and unscrew my motherboard and then apply it on or do you guys just leave everything in the case and do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Go with the aritc silver 5, can't beat the stuff...your temps are way to high at 72c, i think the cpu die is only rated upto 65c . with the V12 fitted and runing full tilt you should be seeing around 38c idle , best to take mobo out so old gunk can be cleaned off properly and nice new artic silver 5 can be applied....one last was your temps in centigrade or farenheit ?

hey striker i fully reccomend the 6800gt if ur gaming, i have an MSI 6800GT o/c to 405 core and 1100 memory with an XP 2800+ o/c to 2500mhz and 1gb pc3200, everything is on max settings in games without a glitch.... well worth the bucks!!!

I agree with Ohballz the 6800GT is one rockin' card, 3x the price of my 6600GT but worth the money

My temps are in celcius. They fluctuate from 35-69 or so, and i dont even play games. I dont know how it gets that high. I guess i'll buy artic silver.

Hey all. Nice to be on the thread again, been REALLY busy so I haven't been able to keep up with it like I like to. Anyways, does anybody know if there is really any difference between the Volcano 11+ and the 12. The only difference that I can see is the fan speed, but all of the other specs are virtually identical. Well, and the 11+ is a few $$ cheaper.

Well now that I look a bit more closely, I see that the 12 has 66 fins compared to 40 on the 11+ and the dissapation charts show like -10 C/W over the 11+, so is that the difference, the 12 is just a tad better at cooling? What is really amazing to me when the stats are compared is how the 12 moves 72 CFM at 5500 RPM, and the 11+ moves 75 CFM at its 4800 RPM which I assume probably has to do with the 6 blade fan on top vs. the 3 blade; however the noise level is the same which is not suprising... I guess just the # of fins is probably the real difference here, CFM asside. On thermaltake's website, they call the 11+ the "Highest Performance Cooler" but I bet they just say that as a marketing ploy since it must be cheaper for them to manufacture [having fewer fins] but still has similar results to the 12?

welcome back technow.
the volcano 12 is not just the 66 copper fins but also the 3 blade fan is said to push more air intto the center of the heatsink.
reguLAR fans 6 more blades have a blind spot on the center of the heat sink all air is thrown to the sides and then down.

notice that new amd cpu semprons the fan has a side cover to direct all air to heaqt sink.

is not just air is art...

Awesome, thanks XP. Looks like I'm getting the 12 then. I can't imagine what 48 Db is going to be like cuz my DragonOrb is like 34 Db right now and it makes my office sound like a server room. I was hoping to find a really good [nearly]silent cooler but is seems you either pay for it in cooling or you gotta spend a lot of $$ to get something sophisticated like a tower/water cooler.

You have a good point kalunjoku, I think your right, like half of the people have it in their signature (as will I soon) and its been mentioned so many times that this thread would probably show up in a search engine search eventually...

Well it actually sounds about half as loud as my DragonOrb, but I think the difference is that the Orb has a really high pitched whirring noise because its a little fan doing 6500 RPM and the Volcano's pitch is much lower, so for me much more tolerable. Also the Volcano droppped my operating temps by 10ºC all around. I'm very happy with it!

Changed my sig too!

i can finally say my system is kick-ass and stable after hours of grief (not just from the missus!).
my system is as follows:
ASUS A7N8X-DELUXE MOBO BIOS REV 1012
XP2800+ O/C 2500Mhz (12.5*200) voltage 1.85(max for board)
modded coolermaster aero7pro cooler w/ arctic silver5
1Gb pc3200 @400Mhz 1:1 timings 6-3-3-3
MSI GF6800GT o/c core 410 mem 1120 driver ver 71.84 (3DMark03 12107)
2* 80Gb SATA--- Raid-0
Creative 5.1 surround card
logitec 5.1 surround sp.
550w Silent Psu
any suggestions on how to make this faster would be greatly appreciated, i will get round to getting the volcano 12 eventually (thx xp) but a new case is higher up the shopping list and the modded aero7 is doing its job. anyone with ideas on a case with good airflow, i have been looking for awhile but dont want to break the bank, and i dont want something with lots of stupid plastic.. has to be class. thx all

hELLO ohballz thats nice it cant better than that!!! there are few people that manage to boost an athlon xp 2400+ or 2500+ to 3ghz using liquid nitrogen (no2) imagine that!!! 2.5 is a lot for an xp2800+ you are in a elite group not many people can get there (including my self) but im working on that jejejeje guess every system is different.

here a few computer cases (i love xtreme cases i dont know if you too so ill sent you a few) a case with good air flow is very important.

http://www.xoxide.com/xblade3.html

http://www.xoxide.com/chenming6021.html

http://www.xoxide.com/scmis.html (this is the one i have its really good)

and last but not list the most perfect cases for overclocking the thermaltake a little bit xpensive but they worth every penny:
