I do not have this specific problem, because i do not have an external dvd-bruner, yet. But i will have. Maybe i found a "workaround" on the german amazon.de

I better do not translate it. i don't know if it works, but if its work, just tell me.

mond3772,

I wonder more about the chipset within cases than within PCs in fact. However, everything counts, of course...

Take a look at this. Does this mean anything about our scsi problems?

Rought translation to the German text...

"Windows 2000 recognized the USB2 burner and was displayed as a drive on my Thinkpad T30. DVD rendition and CD burning went without problems, when burning DVDs (Nero 6,0) had I the problem specified down (SCSI COMMAND aborted). Blanks tried and from time to time had time out problems. NB: In Nero on the last tab "Burn", Uncheck the Finalize CD. Now it burns all DVDs without problems."

I will try this tonight, and see it is works :) I hope that it solves all your problmes too!!

Hello:

Hardware : DVR A06 Firmware 1.08 (it is the latest)
in a USB2 enclosure.

Software : Nero 6.3.x.x

I am having the same problem. I am trying to erase a CDRW and burn some WMA songs on to it.

1. I cant erase some CDRW discs. I dont know why.

2. I start burning and after 47%, Nero reports SCSI command aborted error.

I tried using Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD same problem but does not spell out SCSI command aborted but some HEX numbers get written to the screen.

mond3772 as well as me have cases with ALI chipset inside (mine is 5621). Someone else?
For those of you who have it working properly, are your enclosures using another chipset?

I've on my second enclosure, both get the SCSI command aborted error on the USB2 connection. The first enclosure used the ALI chipset, and the second one uses the Prolific chipset. The Prolific one works like a champ with the Firewire connection.

People seem to have more success with the Oxford 911/Cypress chipset, but I have yet to find an enclosure that uses it that is not just plain ugly.

First of all.. i have a similar problem for a weak now.
I found this site by searching google, and i spent over 2 hours reading all posts here.

I have an CD writer, NOT a dvd writer and my problems are related to CD-r and CD-rw ! I have a TEAC for 2 years and i never had problems with it.

System used : Epox NForce2, Barton 2.5 Ghz, 1 Gb Kingmax memory, 160 GB Samsung HDD ATA133. Other components are not important !

My problems are form the moment when i re-installed my Windows XP SP2. From that moment, when I maked CD's, I was served by Nero (latest version) with "SCSI command aborted" error. On normal CD-R (Traxdata, TDK, etc) this error will appear after 5% burned. When I use CD-RW this error comes at the end, at 100% !

I want to say one more thing : I notice that in my system properties my 2 HDD's and my CD writer appears as SCSI disk devices , but i have only ATA133 drives. This is not happening on my other computer .. at work, where I have also a Gigabyte NForce2 mainboard.

What did I do :
1. Replace the CD writer with a DVD writer from a friend. The same problem, the same error
2. Took my CD writer to another computer... surprise... 4 CD's writen succesfully
3. Because I thought that my Windows XP is making me problmes (seeing my ATA133 as SCSI.. strange thing), I formatted my system partition and installed Windows XP with SP1 this time !

THE SAME PROBLEM again and again. I will lose my mind, as I cannot find the solution.

-My computer (mainboard and rest of it) is not the problem as it worked fine until now and I maked over 100 CD's with present configuration.
-my CD writer work as new on another PC
-CD media is good stuff , I only use Traxdata, TDK, Sony and TDK as CD-RW.
-my IDE cables are changed twice this weak beacause at one moment I was thinking that my cables are the source for this error.
-my mainboard BIOS is updated and set-up corectly.

But I think that is something with the fact that my two HDD's (160 GB Samsung and 80 GB WD) are recognised as SCSI disk devices when in fact those are on IDE ATA 133 cables... and this after 2 Windows installs, after installing very carefully drivers from my mainboard drivers CD.

I'm waiting a reply but without advices as... change the cables .. or... update the Nero... because it worked just fine until I put XP with SP2.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me why XP tells me that I have SCSI drives when I'm not, and how I fix that, because I thing that Nero error is related to this XP problem.

Craig, could you finally reproduce it in your lab?

You want to know my solution to this problem?

Haha ok I have a me-325 external usb 2.0 and a pioneer dvr 108. I coasted i say about a 50 pack of cdr's trying to figure the out this 'scsi command failed'.

So my solution is just put the damn thing in your pc or stick a hard drive in the me-325 that seem to work very well. I don't think the internal dvd-rw+- are supported by the usb interface. When using the external bay it reads fine but won't write.

I see alot of people here had some sort of solution but did not have a fully function dvdrw.

Conclusion:
Just throw the damn thing away and get a real usb external dvdrw. I know its lame but ohh well at least it works.

Hi all:

I have an external enclosure with the GL811E chip and a Pioneer dvr-108 inside, and I realized that I can read cd's and dvd's with no problems. I can burn cd's images (.iso, .nrg, etc) with Alcohol 120% and Nero, but when I try to burn some image file on a dvd (dvd-R), it fails (with alcohol and nero). I have tried to burn some files with Nero but nothing, it fails.

Why it could be possible to burn some cd's and not dvd's?

I don't know if this helps, but I don't have the 'SCSI Command' error until I shut down my external enclosure, otherwise Nero (or alcohol) stops burning at 2% and nothing more else happen. I tried to increase the buffer, and it stops at 5%.

Some idea?

Krexx.

Craig, I don't understand why you are not able to re-create this very simply issue in your lab. All you need is to get an exact same setup people reported here and you are all set.

Here are my components
Dell 4550
IOMagic USB enclosure (called Mediastation combo. Came with IOmagic dvd reader. MOdel I4816CEU. $32 in target)
Nec 2500A drive.

OS, service packs, installed software (other then nero) don't really matter. I have this problem on xp with a bunch of sotware installed and on a clean 03 server with nothing installed, except for nero. The only thing I did was I updated all drivers (device manager, update driver from the internet) and that's it. That simple. Oh yeah, forgot to mention one thing - I dind't have any problems burning any -Rs until I burned my very first +R (fujifilm TY disk, 8x made in japan).

If your company is REALLY looking into this issue, you'd need to get one of the setups mentioned here. That's what I try to do every time our customers have issues. "It always works on our machines", and we can almost never recreate customers issues.. Half of the time "our" issues are related to microsoft updates and patches, but it's our job to find out which updates causing problems and to make things work.
So, the simple steps are:
1. get the same setup.
2. update all usb/chipset/everyhing else you can via device manager/internet.
3. burn -R media
4. burn +R fujifilm, 8x TY (Best Buy, $20 for 50 pack)
5. try burning -R again.
6. Let us know the results.
What steps has Nero tech support/qa department taken so far to recreate this issue??

People, the simplest workaround is to use +Rs for now, unless you have a real reason to stick with -R. DVDs are too cheap nowdays. MOst stores sell good quality disks (TY, Ricoh, MMC) for about $10 for 25 packs. FujiFilm made in japan is always TY, Verbatim digital movie is always MMC. With Sony/TDK you can get Ricoh or TY if your are lucky or know how to tell. (I belive horisontal UPC on cake boxes means CMC(stay away media, although works find on nec2500), vertical TY or RicohJPN. But I could be wrong and it could be the other way around. Check videohelp.com for details on media)

You can add me to the list of those having problems with my Pioneer DVR-108 external. I ended up putting my DVR-108 in my desktop and it is working fine and switched my Liteon into my external box....still can't burn DVD's with the same scsi error coming up.

After searching the net I came up with a rather interesting thread from another forum and it appears to me that this has some validity to it.

Here is a copy of that thread:
-----------------------------------------
Seen many posts refering to this problem using external dvd burner drives inside enclosures going through usb 2.0 or firewire connections.the problem is the enclosures are designed for standard optical drives ie cd rom or dvd rom.the enclosure will give you enough power to burn at two times (2x)but at four times(4x) the power wains or dips and you get this error.the error should really say (drive hasn't sufficient power).the charge capacitor in the drive empties at the lead in,power then fails and you get the dreaded message. for some reason burning at 4x needs more juice than most of these enclosures can provide, most of them are s**t anyways.solutions are as follows-buy a proper enclosure for a dvd 4x burner(more expensive)or take your enclosure and drive to your local electronics shack(not dixons)but a real radio shack, they should be able to change some commponents in the enclosure to provide the rating specified on the dvd burner.problem solved."this is not so much a Nero problem apart from the extremely confusing error message and the log files only point to driver issues that really don't exist"i have spent two weeks playing with the bios setting of my notebook,re-installed windows xp and Nero about 4 times then i thought about the drive power consumption i checked the specs of my drive(freecom)and the enclosure output, the enclosure came up short of power. one visit to my local electronics guru and the problem was solved for about £10.00gbp. hope this helps clear up this long standing issue. ps if it has only started happening recently it is probably the fact that the enclosure has been straining and is starting to totally give up putting out more amps than it was made to.

--------------------------------
I have had problems in the past with other usb devices (printers and scanners) being very finicky about where they are plugged in. If you are not getting the right amount of power to run your device you will constantly get errors.

Any thoughts??

I would have to agree with Steve2Fit.

I've received 3 external chassis from users who were very kind in sending me theirs. I was finally able to reproduce the issue reliably. And I too found that increasing the power on the three suspect external chassis resolved the problem. They simply were not able to provide the power needed when it came time to write.

ok - sounds like a solution but exactly how do i increase power to this external chasis? Do i need to take it to a computer shop and have them do it? What components do they need to change? Thoughts?

I still dont get it. In my case it stopped working all of a sudden, after burning about 100 4x at 8x speed. And it stopped working after the first +R was burned.

How do you increase the power? would a more powerfull adapter do the trick or something inside the enclosure needs to change?

Yes Craig, sounds like you have solved the problem..... but like Blakeas and Avneet23 I too would like to know how to go about fixing it. Perhaps a step by step explanation of houw you got the higher power rating and the parts required would be the way to go.

I know it would help me. Thanks for your efforts Craig, looks like we are finally getting there.

hello i got the same problem like u guys.
my dvd is pioneer 108 firmware 1.14 (RPC1)
my usb enclosure is vipower 6228.(by the way how to check the chipset of this enclosure?)

i check my aspi with the Nero info tools:
1.under the system aspi => it said that my wnaspi32.dll ver 1.0.0.0 is missing
2.Nero aspi => my wnaspi32.dll 2.0.1.68 is installed and working properly.

my question now is the wnaspi32.dll missing file cause all of this problem? if yes? how to solve it?

if u guys don't mind please check my Nero log and tell me what's wrong with it? thanx in advance.

Ok, I've been holding off posting here for some time now hoping that someone would come up with an easy solution to this problem and I would just implement it. I understand that it's not really a Nero problem but frankly I'm not satisfied with the "increase power" solution. It seems that many people have internal drives that they put in external enclosures. Now if the problem really is that not enough power is being supplied to the drives and increasing it is the solution, that may be fine for these "home made" jobs, but I've got a legitimate external drive that I bought at CompUSA. It's a MAD Dog 7-in-1 Mega Stor 16x DL DVD +- R/RW USB 2.0 (which I think is actually a NEC 3500). I've got all patches/drivers/updates/firmware etc. Naturally I've been getting the SCSI Command aborted message since I got it. The only time I could burn on it is when I delete my USB 2.0 drivers and instead use 1.1. Yes, I understand that even though I have a store bought extrernal drive it's really just the NEC 3500 in an external enclosure from Mad Dog.

I don't fully understand the power issue that may be the cause. If a company like Mad Dog sells external drives in stores, wouldn't they be selling enclosures that work with the drives they're putting in them? The suggestion that you may be able to burn for a while then have the problem suddenly happen b/c the enclosure has been straining for a while and now can't keep up also confuses me. This is a brand new drive and it's been happening from the beginning and if Mad Dog uses the same enclosure for all their drives and that enclosure can't handle the power then wouldn't all their customers be complaining?

My solution for this problem was going to be for me to install the drive internally very shortly, but that defeats the purpose of getting an external drive (to be plug and play out of the box - yeah right - and to be portable). A friend of mine tried my drive on his computer and got the SCSI error, but his drive and enclosure (different NEC 2500 and 3rd party enclosure he put together) work fine on his machine. I may try my drive in his enclosure but any tampering I do with my drive is going to void my warranty which I would have liked to avoid. I may try to contact Mad Dog first and see what they have to say: i.e. I shouldn't have to modify or spend more money increaisng power output to get my store bought pre-assembled drive working and what can they do for me. Anybody else have any comments on this happening with store bought external drives?

Finally, please do let us know how to increase power output safely if that is our only choice. Thanks for everybody's time speculating, investigating, troubleshooting, and posting.

Yeah mate, I am in the same boat as you. I have an Iomega USB2 external drive that came with its own matched power supply. My problem is that I can't just install it in the PC, because I use it on a Tablet notebook that doesn't have a slot for an optical drive. So I am stuck with using the USB2 interface.
Now I would have thought that a company like Iomega would make sure that their hardware works before selling them but I may be wrong ;-)
I have things to the point where I have limited success with burns but don't know how I did it.
I have taken a ghost image of my working setup so if I screw things up I can restore it.

Craig,

I don't know.... as I told you some time ago I have both the external case and the PCMCIA card with USB and Firewire ports.

If the problem were because of a lack of power in the case, it wouldn't work connected by Firewire too. But it does, believe me.
