Hmm, sounds like good news. I was looking at buying an External Plextor DVD Writer from Costco. That's quite an expensive option.

Success!......Success!....But why in the world does it work.
I've had the same stupid "SCSI command aborted" problem since last year with my laptop. I was about to give up (but I hate a problem I can't solve). Tried many of the things suggested but nothing worked. Then I thought of something else I had not tried. I daisy chained my external NEC3500 thru my Maxtor external 1394 drive(where the DVD files are) and had my first successful (well not exactly) burn. But it wasn't the daisy chain thru the Maxtor that gave me success. I was so elated with the burn that I immediately tried another.
But during the second burn I noticed that I was still online with my dial-up connection. So I disconnected from the internet. And I immediately got the "SCSI" error. So I tried to burn again while not online and again got the error. I couldn't believe it had anything to do with being online, but of course since it was working when I was and gave me the error when I disconnected, of course I tried again when I was online.
THAT was it! (For me at least). That seems crazy, but I've done a buch of tests and it always failes unless I have my dial-up connection. What up with that???????
And I've also been able to burn using USB 1.1 with no problem(both dvd and cd), but of course it's just too slow to be practical. So I thought it was the PCMCIA cards (1394 or USB2.0). Two external enclosures (Oxford & Prolific chipsets). Three different burners. Different burning software. Nothing worked. It was making me so frigin nuts!
So now it comes down to ......it works on USB 1.1, but to use USB2.0 or 1394, I have to be connected to the internet.
Does this make any sense to anyone?

Well, after one month of problems, I put my internal LG DVD Recorder back into my desktop, where I actually think it belongs... It's working perfect there. I bought an External LG DVD Recorder and it's working perfect in my notebook (recording at 8X - one DVD = 9 minutes and a half!). After all my testing and after the help of you all, I think this is a chipset problem (of the external enclosure) and/or a power problem (again, the external enclosure). Go figure...

As you can see, I´m always burning...

Ok guys, problem solved. :o)
Last week-end I did 3 things:
1: I have updated my motherboard's BIOS to the latest revision.
2: I've put my GSA-4163B in the Kingwin external enclosure.
3: Prior to burning the DVD'S, I've killed ( by doing CTRL-ALT-DEL....then end task. Do not uninstall your applications...! )all the unnecessary tasks running in Win XP that I could, with the task manager: Norton Anti-Virus, Quicktime, the HP printer manager, Creative's remote center etc. Killing applications requires some fine tuning, as the first time you do this, you will probably kill an application that's required, and this will force you to restart your machine, and do the same process again. The key is to write the name of the .EXE applications that you kill, and the watch if it causes instability, then you proceed to the next .EXE.
Honestly, I can't say exactly what i did, that fixed the problem, but all I know is that i've been burning -R, +R, Princo, Ricoh, Maxell, Imation, you name it. All week-end, without a single coaster.
I also tested my two supposedly dead GSA-4081B. Guess what? They both work too!
I then put one of my 4081B in an older machine ( Celeron 433Mhz )and i have been capable of burning DVD's at 4X with that machine too. I never thought I could burn DVD's with such a machine.

Don't you get a slight feeling that this is really what fixed the problem for you?
Changing the DVD writer in my enclosure and updating the mmc.dll file fixed it for me.
Tell it like it is - NOT how it should be!

Sorry for the lengthy post at page 18. There were times that even that solution didn't work, but its worth checking. However, I had it successfully working again last night, even w/o the USB 5V cable included with the USB 2.0 Cardbus. Btw, the exact PCMCIA USB2.0 I use is SKD USB 2.0 Cardbus model MA-103, which has NEC based chipset.
I did 2 things. I updated the USB enhanced controller driver to the NEC Enhanced USB host controller version 2.1.6.2 driver (I assumed the NEC chipset uPD720101 USB2.0 Host Controller is whats used in this cardbus). Also, I updated my Nero to version 6.6.0.8.
So far, my testings seemed working ok, even tried overburning to a 99min capacity CD-R. Will update you guys next time.

Hi Bobboy,
When you get this error message on an internal drive, it's a completely (or almost completely) different issue.
A copy of your Nero log file, minus the serial key of course, would help us to resolve your issue. There could be an error message that is occuring before you get this 'SCSI Command Aborted' error that is the real cause of your problems.

High Delta1562,
I wish I could find the 'majic' solution here, but I've tried all the tricks I know from my 10 years of working in this industry, both on the Hardware and software side.
And I've said it before, and I'm sure you don't want to here it again or may not agree, but this is not something we can resolve in our software. We are 100% sure our software is issuing the proper commands, and responding properly. We tried to create a patch, but this only worked for a small percentage of uers.
This is an issue between the USB Controller Drivers and the BridgeBoards in the USB External chassis. I've tried to contact a few Bridgeboard MFG's about this issue, but no real response. They all say, 'Ohh, we've heard about this and we are looking into it'. Or, 'Its a problem with the USB drivers, not our Bridgeboards'.
And I can not provide any solid proof that it is one or the other. I can provide them with External Chassis of theirs that show this issue, but they test on their systems and can not duplicate this. But this is on 'their' systems. When I bring my system that shows this issue, they start pointing fingers at my Controller and its' drivers.
Sorry, but I've tried all I can to even get the ball rolling on finding a solution to this from the Hardware end, but I'm hitting a brick wall every time.

Craig

And what to think about a retail externad dvd writer(BTC) ?
to craig, couldn't the problem be the way the OS (MS windows) handles the USB data? Maybe we could ring some bells over there, becouse i'd read some posts from users with windows and linux, and when they booted linux everything was working properly. But in windows they had the same problem.
If any company should have people at dev. and tech support they'll have.

I switched to a firewire/usb2 enclosure using the firewire connection. Burning is back to normal (especially after I defragged). However, ripping is taking me forever (last night it took me 2 hrs to rip one dvd) - either from the burner in my firewire enclosure (which I prefer not to use for ripping) or the internal dvd drive.
So, changing to Firewire has worked for me in terms of burning.
Anyone have any ideas as to why ripping is now taking so long?
