Ok I've been reading forums and looking everywhere for the last couple days and can't seem to find an answer. I'm having the same old NAT error but I can't seem to switch to a Static IP address as it says on the port forwarding page. It seems my ISP, Adelphia charges alot extra to set up a static IP. So I'm wondering if there is anyway to get my smiley face to green without doing that.
I went into my router config (Netgear WGR14 v5) and there was a place there that said get Dynamically from ISP or use static IP but I don't know if that is the same as changing it in the local connection properties like they say on the port forwarding site. I'm pretty much a noob at this so any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry if this has already been mentioned somewhere.
thanks
jason

I just followed nearly each instruction found on this tread.. And still *sigh* ..
I almost thought I figured it all out after that nice tutorial on Routers, but after I did the settings displayed on that page, on my router admin.. things only got worse. My smiley didnt turn green, but it turned Red! I lost complete connection now ..
I do have to mention I live in a shared house with multiple computers.

I see. looks like another guide that doesn't do much for us who are using the Azureus or other torrent clients. Hope there are something or someone who can have this fix for faster dl for private and public torrent files.
thanks

NAT happens basically because u have a router that has a firewall and is blocking the 'ports' through which stuff comes in...that is why it takes so long to download so u have to foward ur ports and there are plenty of threads out there that tell u how so don't ask how

Clueless, seriously I don't know what your problem is. There's a graphical guide in my sig that SHOWS YOU WITH PICTURES how to do what you want to do.
There are MULTIPLE guides in this forum telling you how to do what you want to do. First off, you're posting in a thread that wasn't started by you and asking questions which is sort of a no-no, but moreover those of us who actually generally tend to help people don't look @ these threads.
Try using the search feature...seriously...search for "azureus nat" and you'll get tons of hits. Or, poke around the stickied posts in this forum. Every question you've asked in this last page has been answered dozens of times, you'll have to excuse us for not leaping to your aid.

Tom, Melee, I've tried every guide possible, I Enabled upnp, I disabled upnp.. I made a steady IP .. turned it off again, I opened ports.. Closed Ports.. tried 432123124 different ones.. I did it with upnp on and off, I set the dahm things in Azureus, and most of the time it only got worse :p ..
Im just going to blame this problem to the fact I live in a shared house and some of my neighbours enjoy downloading just as much as I do. ..

I'll say one thing about the NAT error. I still dont understand it done everything this site and what many others have said to do. I still get a red smiley for the NAT and a yellow one for the DHT. They both say firewalled. The one good thing is that it doesn't seem to be affecting my download speeds.

Download the BT bible from the first link in my sig, if you haven't already.
Or, while you're on my site, you could check out the "p2p tutorials" section. It's nowhere near complete, my big "speed up my torrent" tutorial is only 2/13ths of the way done, but it's getting there.
It's really not all that complex to get everything done right, it's usually one small step that you haven't done.

Well, 2 firewalls is bad, do something about that.
Try completely disabling both of them and seeing if you get the error, I'm guessing that's the issue, since UPnP and forwarding arent' fixing your issue.
That's why I dislike so many one-time-install firewalls--they assume you're stupid and don't really *mean* to allow ALL connections from whatever rule you set, so they block 'em. OR they update and it wipes out the rules...or whatever.
Edit here:
Also, how are you SURE you set up your forwarding rule correctly? Maybe you've transposed some numbers or something. Skip the router...plug your computer directly into the modem and see if you get the same problem. If you plug it in directly and it works, it's the router config. If you plug it in directly and it doesn't, it's your firewall(s). Process of elimination = win!
And also, just because you didn't USE to have issues, doesn't mean that your ISP hasn't now enabled traffic shaping (packet sniffing), because ISP's are spending LOTS of money b/c of people using torrents. It's estimated that 40-60% of al internet traffic IS the BT network. Howz about that one for ya?

This is me officially stating that I'm not helping anyone else in this thread. It's been stated bunches NOT to add your problems onto another post, and since everyone's stumbling over each other, it's hard to actually try to provide any help.
If you'd like my help, make a thread in this forum w/ your specific problem, unique to you. You'll find that you get much better responses that way anyway.
I mostly guarantee anyone that 99 times out of 100 I can diagnose your problem in the first 5 minutes, but this trainwrecked thread isn't the place to do it.
Thanks!
