Have you tried dvd rebuilder with CCE SP? I have heard it is much better in terms of video quality? Seems harder to use but it might be worth a shot

I did try to use Rebuilder and CCE, but had some problems with installation, could not get CCE to work correctly. I have promised myself after the summer when I have more time, and my boat goes out or the water I will investigate the problem and start to work with the program. For now I defer to others on the quality of the program, since there are many glowing recommendations I believe that the quality must be excellent.

As squizzle mentioned there is a installer available that takes all the guess work out of getting the program setup.Once this program is set up, you can set the input, and output directory, to the same as you use with any other program.
Then you rip using Dvd decrypter, or dvd shrink, then open up DVDRB..everything is loaded up, and ready to go,just click "backup dvd".
It has a batch encode feature, where you can load up several projects at once, and go to sleep or work or fishing...when your ready, just burn with your favorite burning program.
Any movie that is 2 hours or over,I use DVDRB/CCE :)

Thanx JD, I am going to give it a try I really want to try this program out. Since all reviews are good I know I must be missing out on something, so will give it a go again.

Hey Jim Dandy,

Nice to see you on this thread. Have you compared the video quality versus shrink? do you see a major difference?

Not that I've found yet. All my proggys get along with it just fine.

I truly believe this is the best forum site on the net. Very smart ppl here that are very helpful, and pretty cool to joke around with as well.

Arniebear is right about the TV shows not being motion picture quality. They're just like recording them off TV. I used Shrink and they didn't look the greatest to put it mildly. Using Rebuilder works wonders on these, at least using CCE as the encoder. Not too sure how the other encoders perform but I've heard they are very good as well.

Did you have a hard time learing rebuilder with cce squizzle? I mean i have used DVD Shrink for years now its hard to give up. I do see though on those movies and espeically my episodes of sopranos and shows that i have to compress them alot i see some pixelization. Does rebulid help with that?

If you want my opinion, DVD Shrink is at the bottom of my list of backup software...I only use DVD Shrink for an analyzing tool only, or when no compression is needed.

My order of preference,in quality.
1.DVDRB/CCE..60 bucks(usd)
2.Intervideo.. Dvd copy 3 Platinum... 80 bucks
3.DVD2One...Ive owned this program so long Ive forgotten how much it costs
4.Nero recode...I bought mine at BestBuy for 50 bucks
5.clone dvd (I dont own this one I used the trial version)
6.DVD Shrink...free

I agree seems shrink is starting to loose its luster a little. I mean its good for simple tasks but its starting to show its age. Espeically with high compression rates. I do find the quality settings help a little they are not a solution to the problem. If only dual layer disks where not $4.00 each lol

I used DVDRB/CCE for my Sopranos series(god I love that show)and any other episodic dvds, and I only use one disc.
It works great, and except the fact that it comes from TV as was stated earlier, the picture quality is as good as it gets.

I'm pretty good with change and I pick up on things pretty quick usually, so Rebuilder/CCE wasn't too difficult of a transition for me. If you have problems getting all the programs to work together there is a sticky thread in the One-Click Transcoders forum on CCE/RB problems. Very helpful there.

Yeah I am going to have to check it out. I have so many episode dvd's I want to back up. The sex and the city ones i did with shrink just the episodes and they came out terrible. I did the quality settings on shrink . They were watchable but not very good looking they looked like analog cable. Oh well thanks!

Yeah I am going to migrate over to it. Now the next question would be is this. How much computer power does it use. I have 2.4 celeron (non d) that is overclocked to 3.2 ghz...You think it will struggle?? I heard this program needs a little more juice.

I have a Dell deminsion 8100, no special tweaks, except boosted the ram to 512....nothing to brag about.
It works fine on my machine,my times are alot slower than most(usually around 4 to 5 hours)but anything worth while.. is worth waiting for. IMO

You could try overclocking it Jim? I did not have lot of money when i went to redo my pc but all in all overclocking can do the trick. I have heard something like 4 sweeps can make it really as close to perfect as possible. But I don't want to take 10 hours either lol

that's a decent PC, JD, my previous was a P3 500 with a massive 384MB ram. i'd still be using it now except it was buggering up all the time; it was only an old PC i got from work for £20 so i just binned it and bought my current setup for £240 with a view to it lasting a few more years.

@l8nights - enjoy the 20pages reading!, i honestly don't think i'll get around to using Rebuilder or anything other than Shrink & Decrypter (new protections excepted). 'fraid i just like to rip and burn, do some posts on here, then just chill after work, don't like to spend too much time on PC as i'm on computers all day long

As long as it works, thats all that matters, and it also makes a difference in what is between the chair and the keyboard. I think of getting a new one, but this one gives me no problems and everything is getting along so well that I don't want to part with it.....yet.

If your going to try Dvd-Rb don't give up if you don't get to work, like I did. I was using CCE SP 2.70 and I later found out it wasn't compatible with rebuilder, so now I use version 2.50 and the quality is amazing as many others have been saying.
