Dela,
I have been using eMule successfully for a long time now, but recently tried to download a nice Dolby Digital movie, and got 8 of 10 sources with a status of "Asked for another file" instead of "on queue". What does this
mean and how do I fix it?
Also, I have read this thread and noticed a number of references to ED2K links and was wondering how you search for files available
as ED2K links. Would they not also be visible
through a global eMule search?
Finally, what is ShareReactor? I have downloaded a number of files with ShareReactor in the name, but is it another program to install or something else?

Thanks,
Wayne

Whenever u see asked for another file there is nothing much u can do about it

ed2k sites are sites like sharereactor.com

on a global emuloe search, u are liable to get fakes!

I have a really high ID and im using a 600K cable broadband internet connection.

What settings will get me the highest download speeds as it takes me over a week just to get one 700mb movie file.

Oh it also takes me ages to get any connections

wayneb64, to control "Asked for Another File" in emule, go to Preferences -> Extended Settings.
Tick the box "Show more controls (advanced mode controls)" and click OK.
Go back to Transfers and right-click a file. New stuff is Meta Data and Sources Handling (A4AF), which means "Asked for Another File."

You can Swap all sources to this file now (all current sources; reportedly a one-time thing), swmp all sources to any other file now, or automatically swap all A4AF sources to this file (future sources with this file will prefer this file).

thegod57, a week for a movie with only a few sources is expected, and sometimes my download from a source will stop and start again quickly or not so quickly, but you're saying usually a source will transfer less than 1MB at a time before disconnecting? I get 3-10MB per transfer period from each source on average, transferring for 10 minutes to over an hour.

I usually get between 200-300 KB before it cuts off and takes about 1 - 2 hours to reconnect.

I have an UL:DL ratio of about 200:1 yet i have plenty of sources for my download 500 most the time.

eek! That hasn't ben my experience. While I would suggest having many files on queue (I have around 70 at any given time; thus a much lower UL:DL ratio and a few files complete at the end of a day), many sources should transfer more than 1 MB with a cable's bandwidth each period.

With cable, your up shouldn't compromise your down, though I leave 5-10kb/s to up other things at all times and lower my emule upspeed if I'm upping something in particular to someone else. I'm sure that's not helpful though. I'll post if I think of something.

DEla,
I read your tutorial, and it worked a treat. I became used to cumulative dl rates of about 30-50KBps over my 512kbps cable.
However, about a week ago, it started playing up. I started getting messages from some automated bot claiming that i was leeching, even tho i could see uploads coming from me to others. My dl rates have gone down to cumulative 8-12KBps, even with 25 or so downloads running.

I've even tried taking my firewall down, which hasn't solved the issue. Even when its up, it shouldn't matter, cos I've got UDP and TCP ports mapped specifically for emule, and it worked fine before.

It occured after i set up an ad-hoc home WLAN, but i can't see how that could have affected emule. Howver i also appear to be having trouble with DCC Sends on mIRC, so these problems may be linked.

PLEASE HELP!!! Emule has been a godsend and I really dont want it to be crap at me!!!

Thanx muchly,

kaotic42

Just so I am clear, those DL rates were not for individual downloads, they were for the total speed, displayed down the bottom right of the screen.
Anyway, I dont think you really want them right now, wait till this is fixed!!;) It has now become even worse - total download speed <5KBps.

All is not well....
