Hi Sonix, thanks for the great guides.
However, I have one question. I managed to back up what appeared to be a full working copy, yet when it gets to the POLYPHONY DIGITAL screen it freezes. Allows me to do all up until then ????
Any1 have any suggestions please.

Well now it's working fine. What can I say.. I don't really know what the problem was...I used several things different.

I used the pssdown 1.01 and the older GT4101. And I left the files opening and the first one untouched.

Now it's working great. Think this should also fix DJ-SpRo's probs;)

Are you guys clicking the Patch files button on the new version of the rip tool before rebuilding it? I say this because the files need to be patched otherwise it won't load past the disclaimer screen. I do have to say, that success depends totally on following the guides to the letter and using the original ISO, as many torrents etc., may be either corrupt or have been messed with in some way (Not that I have anything against BitTorrent). It definately doesn't work with the toxic patched version. In any case if it's a torrent you want, there's plenty already done now.

I personally preferred to leave the opening PSS well alone when I was downsampling (It's "opening_us.pss" on my NTSC version) and just downsampled the rest. The reason being that the opening movie is a multi-language PSS and nobody seems to have got round remuxing with two soundtracks yet.

now it's working as I wrote. When it didn't work I made everything from the tutorial and for sure I also applied the patch at the and.

But I have another question. I've realized that if I want to select a track I want to drive, sometimes the ps2 hangs a little bit or needs some more time to load. For me personally this doesn't care, but could this damage the ps2 in some way? probably the laser?
Thanks 4 answers

No, some of the tracks are a little slow to load, but generally, I find that the DVD-5 loads quicker than the original, with a fair amount less disk activity. This is probably because the drive isn't having to refocus and reposition for info on the second layer.

WAHAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for all the help and guidance in this thread and to those who made some great tools.
Just thought I would try the disc from last night that kept freezing at the POLY DIGITAL screen. As it appeared I pressed X and hey presto one fully backed up game. Just annoyed I went to bed last night with a headache as it appeared not to work.
Thank you again

This is great stuff. People helping each other. Now this is what a forum is all about.

Sonix has really excelled himself this time around... and what's more he's doing it for the good of everyone. I am proud to be able to mirror his files. The bandwidth this week on downloads of his tools from my site have been absolutely awesome. I can't wait to see the final version of Apache 3.

simpsim1 just a couple of questions on backing up GT4. I have made more coasters than I ever have trying to downsize GT4. I belive I have followed the Tutorial right but no success.Just the credit sceen and then Black!. i got caught in the middle of sonix's updates and that added to the problem. Then OCX errors. Blah blah blah.Question 1 the tut says to patch as the last step. Some people have stated to patch before rebuild. Question 2-Can I just use cdvdgen w/ the command prompt to create my iso.. Im not sure where my problem is.
Question 3-Is anybody interested in a dozen brand new coasters? lol

@joeqman. If you're using the tutorial in the sonix kit, it tells you exactly where to patch the files. You need to patch the files BEFORE you rebuild with CDVDGEN, in fact you only rebuild with CDVDGEN once you are certain you have done everything else that needs to be done. The OCX issue is resolved by using the Newest version of PssDown (On my site), which includes the required OCX, which some people seem to be missing. If you're struggling too much with the new version of Sonix' tool, the older one is still on my site, along with some tutorials. All in all though, I'd say that the newest version is definately the best one.

I can upload GT4 iso which I cut to shite. if anyone wants it. Works fine and has no probs. Also there is slightly over a GB left os space on the disk. It is guaranteed to work as long as you follow the instructions I enclose.

Hi,
I also had the black screen. I found it happened when I didnt compress the opening pss.
Do any of your coasters hang at the POLYPHONY DIGITAL screen.
I found 2 of mine did. To get round this, as soon as the sony entertainments screen dissapears and the POLYPHONY DIGITAL starts to appear press X immediately. I had 2 discs I believed were coasters but now work 100% and the game loads exceptionally quick through all stages/levels.
You have to use all the lates updates for this to work and follow it to a 'T'

I'm glad to see most people have been successful in backing up this project.

I've just finished moving my site over to a paid host and now have all the required files for this project at http://www.thefileforum.com (In the PS2 Section). I now have a bit more bandwidth to play with, as I'd almost exhausted my month's allocation on the last site.

Do you still have to do all this if you just download a version of the game? Or are those isos usually ready to go?

Thanks.

Simpsim- I retried as per tutorial and couple more coasters cant get passed the sony screen. So I read so more other places and I tried the old ripper with the updated PSSdown. And Success!!! Just one thing do not close the ripper until you have downsampled. It patches all at the same time.Success at last and good luck to all who have had problems like me.I have played with no freezing anywhere!

@HenriPaul. I think it's most likely your media. I was using some real cheapies when I was testing these tools out, and some of them took an age to even boot. One thing I will say though.... If you get a good backup using a cheap disk, then you can be sure that a good one will be excellent.
