This one worked for me good luck
How to backup Gran Turismo on DVD5 to play with Swap Magic
This has been successfully done by Jin666
Tested on sces 517.19
Boots with Swap Magic 3.6 PAL
Step by Step:
Programs needed: (Download links are found in the readme file)
DVD Decrypter
Apache 2
Sonix tool for GT4
Sony CD/DVDgen 1.50
Iml2iso
Create a new folder on the desktop, and call it gt4
DVD Decrypter
Insert original game disk into DVD Rom drive.
Click Mode, ISO, Read
Wait for green light in between the DVD and Hard Drive diagrams to light up.
Click on it.
Apache 2
Open Apache 2
Click File, open file. Browse for ISO, then open it.
A list of files will open, look to the left in Apache 2 and you will see a small disk. Right click on it, and click extract all.
Browse to the desktop, where the folder gt4 is. Click Ok.
NOW WAIT!
When that is finished, right click on the small disk again, and click Switch layer.
Then click on the disk again, and click extract all.
Browse to the same folder (gt4) and click OK.
NOW WAIT!
When its done, close Apache 2, but open your folder gt4.
Check all of these files are there.
1. system.cnf (.cnf extension may not be there, but look for SYSTEM)
2. sces.517.19
3. core.gt4
4. ioprp300.img
5. irx (folder)
6. net (folder)
7. epson (folder)
5. gt4.vol
6. gt4l1.vol
Sonix GT4 Tool
Open the tool, browse to the folder gt4 and select the file gt41.vol and click rip.
Wait, then a message will tell you to delete some movies, but don?t close the tool.
Go to the gt4 folder, and delete these movies.
apricot.pss
autumn.pss
deepforest.pss
ending.pss
kashiwa.pss
lasvegas.pss
midfield.pss
mini.pss
montecarlo.pss
motegi_east.pss

oval.pss
paris_tarmac.pss
route5.pss
route5_club.pss
seoul.pss
suzuka_east.pss
tsukuba_wet.pss
yosemite_dirt.pss
Wait until the tool does more work, the close it when it completes.
Sony cddvdgen
Open this program, select New project, then DVD Master disk. (middle selection)
Then click on Volume.
fill in the "disk name" field with "sces" and "51719" and the area is "Europe".
also change the "volume" field to "granturismo4".
Make sure you do it EXACTLY like that, or it wont work!
Now click the directory button.
Open your gt4 folder, and drag these files in the EXACT same order, into CDDVDGEN.
1. system.cnf (.cnf extension may not be there, but look for SYSTEM)
2. sces.517.19

4. ioprp300.img
5. irx (folder)
6. net (folder)
7. epson (folder)
5. gt4.vol
6. gt4l1.vol
After that?s done, click file, then export iml file.
Save this file into your gt4 folder, and call it gt4
Iml2iso
Open this program, and browse to the iml file you made.
Click start.
NOW WAIT FOR A GOOD WHILE, UNTIL A MESSAGE APPEARS TELLING YOU IT?S DONE.
Close iml2iso
DVD Decrypter
Open DVD Decrypter
Click Mode, ISO, Write.
Click on small folder, and browse to ISO file.
Click open.
Then click green light in between Hard disk and DVD.
And it burns!!!
This is how I did it, it may not work for you, but hopefully it will!
Thank you for reading this.

If you followed the guide exactly you wouldn't have a problem making the back up of this game. You may have missed something along the way or did something wrong. Personally, I would try rebuilding the game again. I had a problem using the IML2ISO (i.e. it didn't work) but I downloaded this program from another site and finished making my back up.

Hey I need help backing up GT4. I read this entire thread and have followed the tutorial from backuptools.co.uk/
I used apache 3 to extract the files to my computer. used dvd ripper v.1.02 to get the Extracted Folder. Then downsampled the pss files...using downsampling tool v.1.00 (I even tried the newer version). Then rebuilt the GT4L1.VOL file. Afterwards i Patched the files, then used CD/DVD GENERATOR to create the iml file. I then used Apache to create the iso file from the iml file. To burn the iso ive tried DVD Decrypter and Apache. I use Swap Magic v.3.6. The copy i made from Apache said that it was not a valid PS2 disc and the copy i made from DVD Decrypter got to the initial screen, i think the disclaimer screen and then afterwards it just turned into a black screen.
Now i want to know what i'm doing wrong. Am I missing a step? Do i need to download anything? Someone please help, i don't want to make anymore coasters. If anyone can help i'd appreciate it....thanks!

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever, why the sonix guide followed to the letter should not work for any of you. Jin666, your guide is great, as long as you don't mind removing a few movies, and it's quicker than sonix' tutorial kit, but in my humble opinion, the downsampling method using the sonix tutorial is better. If you can't get success with one method, try the other one and see if it works.

Hi, I made a backup copy of GT4 PAL using the the downsampling method described in the sonix tutorial. Both the gran turismo and the arcade mode are working flawlessly but when I try to enter the LAN mode the ps2 starts trying to read something on the disc and the only way to get it back to work is to reset the console. Is there any way to let the lan play work?

Ok I have got to the part where I downsample and its running but I keep getting the error...
Illegal bit stream found in file
If you are getting this error it is likely the PSS file you are using is corrupted - I suggest trying a different copy. It is also possible that the file uses a new custom format which is not yet supported by PSS Plex.
Also: Input audio file not found, or cannot be accessed.
I went ahead and finished the tutorial and burned the disk and same problem when first screen comes up then goes black. I have followed both of the tutorials and both have come out with the same result.
Any ideas?????

Will doing the game this way make it so you can put it on your HD Advance and play it from the hard drive? I started my HDA up and swapped out my new GT4 disk but the speeds jump around from 8kb to 592kb and that usually means its not going to work. Does this game HAVE to be played with swap disk or is there a certain way to make it playable from the hard drive?
EDIT: Ok I have to game running from swap disk but the intro skips alot. Is that because I downsampled them???

There is a patch kit on my site specifically for HDD. It's basically a flattening kit that doesn't need the movies downsampling.

Hi,I am Having Trouble burning Gran Trismo 4
I have a large PS2 and am using swapmagic 3
I have used the method of slowly copying the image to my HDD with DVD Decrypter.
Used ISO Buster and Made The Files Smaller
Then I have Used CD/DVD Gen to recreate the image.
Then I burnt it to disc with DVD Decrypter onto a Standard DVD+R disc
I usually use Verbatim Datalife however i used an Average quality disc although i have came to the conclusion this has not been the reason its defected. The Size was around 1.27 gb (the burn lines on the dvd the size of a minidisc.
It gets to the disclaimer. (copywrite sony, wear a seatbelt, cars are different in real life, blah, blah) - then black screen.
I have tried every method of booting it with swapmagic
Now I am trying Sonix's method
Can anybody please tell me where i can get the Gran Turismo Ripkit and Apache 2 (I can not find them anywhere)
If anybody can tell me I would appreciate it very much

I can't remember, but, if this game is online playable, the duplication routine that has been provided will need an additional step. To complete the copy process, refer to my how to for "copying online capable PS2 guide" found here.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/233382
You will follow the above steps to a tee, then use my disc ID checker and Disc Patcher routines after the final image is created.

I think that GT4 is only LAN capable and not online. Don't think it would do anything for that.
